9. Chapter Nine

Goodbyes were hard, especially with the person that couldn't come on the drive to my new school. Drake. Luckily, my parents let me have one last moment alone with him before I officially left and I was really thankful for that. I took him into the dining room, the room that was never used, and threw my arms around him. I was completely surprised that I did not cry.

"I love you," he whispered into my ear, obviously choking up with tears. I pulled away, determined to remain strong and not break down into a fit of tears, and kissed him lightly. He kissed me back, more desperate for the last connection and traced his tongue across the bottom of my lip before we both pulled away with sad sighs. Mine was a little shaky.

"Don't do drugs or get drunk or anything. Text, email or write letters, I'm expecting contact." I laughed at him and wrapped his arm over my shoulder, walking us back out to my parents.

"Ready to go, Sophie?" my dad had already forced all of my bags into the small trunk of our car and was attempting to close it once Drake and I were outside.  We stood beside my mom not saying anything, but our gazes said a million things.

"Yeah, Dad," I answered as the trunk shut.  I gave Drake one last watery smile and opened my car door.  By some miracle, I was able to get into the car and shut the door before the first tear rolled down my cheek.  Thank god for tainted windows.

"Don't be a stranger just because Sophie won't be around anymore," I overheard my mum say to Drake, hearing him respond with a laugh and, "I won't."

     I missed him already.

My mom got into the car and that was when we finally drove off. We drove for about a block before my dad hit the brakes so hard that there was a screech.

"Whoa, Da!" Owen yelled after he was slammed back into his seat from being lurched forward.  Thank god for the invention of seat belts.

"Why are we stopping?" I asked after wiping my face clean.  I tried leaning forward so that I could see.

"It looks like you have last minute guests," my mum answered, her face turning back to smile at me before speaking to my dad.  "I think you should pull over, honey.  She should see the commotion before she goes."

Dad pulled over as Mum suggested and I got out of the car.  When I turned around, I saw Kiera, Wendy, Mackenzie, Lilah, and Todd standing in the street waiting for me with balloons, presents, and smiling faces.  That's when I ran up to them and broke into tears.

They were my crazy, stupid, loving friends.  I certainly couldn't help loving them either.
