1. Chapter 1

"You've got to be kidding me!"

I shook my head, making my red hair flip from side to side.

"Nope. No one's asked me to go." I said.

My best friend, Linda Joyce widened her blue eyes, her blond curls falling into her face.

"But the Fall Festival is on Saturday!" She cried.

"I'm not going," I shrugged.

Linda pretended to faint. "I can't go without you!"

"Boris asked you, you said yes, you're stuck."

"But what about you?!"

"Lin, calm down, you and Boris will have fun, together."

Linda frowned. She opened her mouth to speak, but my long-time crush, Preston Corvette, cut her off.

"Avery! Can I talk to you?"

I looked up at his bright green eyes and shaggy blond hair, my stomach filling with butterflies.

"Yeah, you can talk to me, you are talking to me." I choked down my nausea.

Preston flashed me his heart-melting 300-Watt grin.

I froze. Linda gave me a push and I stumbled forward, straight into Preston. He lurched backwards and I landed on him.

When we looked up, Linda was gone.

"Oh, I'm, I'm s-so sorry!" I cried, scrambling up.

"No, Avery, it's okay. Relax, Avery." Preston pressed me down beside him.

I propped myself up on my elbow to face him.

"What is it?"

Being so close to him made me feel dreamy.

"Look, I just wanted to ask you..."

I blushed. "Yes?"

Preston gazed into my eyes.

"I really, really like you Avery, but this Fall Festival doesn't really seem important enough." He whispered. "I-I want you to be my girlfriend. I always have. I know you're not used to this, but, do you want to go out with me on Saturday?"

I took a deep breath. My dream was finally coming true. Except in my dreams, my face wasn't supposed to be as red as my hair.

Preston bit his lip as I turned my head towards the sky.

"I'll think about it," I finally said.

But inside, I was screaming, "YES!!"
