Wishing For More

Rose Weasley heads off to her first year at Hogwarts. She forms a unlikely relationship with first year hottie, Scorpius Malfoy. Her family keeps on saying it won't last but she won't believe them. As they get to know each other, she keeps hoping that it will turn into more than friendship.

2. The Sorting

The color of the sky was darkening as Rose ran down the corridor. They were almost to Hogwarts! Rose slit open the door of her compartment. She was momentarily out of breath. Albus looked up amused.

"You seem tired".

"Well, I was just talking to Scorpius Malfoy".

She stopped talking to see what his reaction would be. Al simply shrugged and went back to his book.

"Huh, you don't care?" she said in surprise.

"Why would I? I don't know him".

"So, will you get to know him? He is really nice". Rose asked anxiously because she hoped Al and Scorpius would get along.

Al smiled "Sure, I will enjoy that". With words he went back to his book. Rose threw herself down on her seat across from Al. Staring out the window, she saw the beautiful countryside outside and was in a daze just looking at it. After a while, Al looked up.

"Um, Rosie".

"Are you forgetting something".

"What? Oh!". Rose hurried out of the compartment. She had forgotten to change into her robes. She would have to hurry if she was to change into them.

"FIRST YEARS!!!!". Rose heard a bellow over the bustling crowd.

"OVER HERE". Rose peeked over the shoulder of someone in her way and saw Hagrid. She ran up to him and gave him a big hug.

"How 're you doing Rose? Tell 'er parents I 'ave a bunch of cakes for them". Rose was amused. Her parents said Harid's cooking could brake your teeth.

"I will".

She saw Al and hurried over to him.

"I got them on in time".

"I can see".

Hagrid motioned for all the first years to follow him down a path. It was getting darker, night was upon them.

"So, 'veryone, soon you will 'et your first view o' Hogwarts".

Rose grabbed Al's hand in excitement.

She whispered to him "Finally we'll be able to see it, the famous Hogwarts!".

The trees parted and she caught her first glimpst of Hogwarts. It was the best thing she had every seen in her life. Think her house a thousand times bigger and grander. The first years hurried to the beach. Rose saw Scorpius over by a boat. She grabbed Al by the hand and pulled him over to Scorpius.

"Hey Scorpius, this is my brother Al".

Scorpius smiled his smile

Al smiled back his half moon smile

"Hey. Is it all right for me to call you Scor?".

"Yeah. That sounds so much better than Scorpius".

Soon the three of them were in deep conversation as they neared Hogwarts.

Rose asked "So, what houses do you guys want to be in?".

Scorpius replied "I don't want to be in Slytherin. I want to show everyone I'm different from my father. It's SO annoying, everyone is judging me because of my father".

"I hate when people judge people before they know them".  Al said.

"What about you Al?". Scorpius asked.

"I don't know but my dad said that it doesn't matter what house I'm in. That's why I'm not nervous anymore Rosie".

Rose sighed "I wish my dad didn't care. He wants me to be in Gryffindor".

"Yeah, my parents want me to be in Slytherin. Parents can be so interfering! What house do you want to be in?"Scorpuis asked Rose.

"Well, the thing is I want to be in Gryffindor".

"If you want to, you should". Scorpius replied.

Then the boats stopped and the first years went inside the castle for their sorting.

Professor Longbottom, a friend of Rose's family came to explain the sorting. Rose was too nervous to listen. She knew all about the hat because her mom had explained everything you would ever want to know about the hat. It was like the world was in slow motion as they walked into the hall. Students from all the houses stared at the first years, trying to guess which was going to be put in which house. Rose saw a boy pass a packet of money under the table. They were betting on them as well. This enraged Rose but she kept it to herself.

The hat opened its mouth and sung:

I will sort into the houses one by one,

Look into my mind and I will guide you

To where you ought to be.

If you are brave, seek out Gryffindor

Smart, off to Ravenclaw to you

The loyal belong in Hufflepuff

and the cunning and ambitious head to Slytherin.

All noble house,

Now the question is

Where do you belong?

"Abbot, Casey"

"Hmmm. Hufflepuff!".

Rose wasn't scared that the hat wouldn't say a house. Her smarts proved it would but what if she was put in another house than the one she wanted? All names went by, soon it was Scorpius's turn. He went up scared. As he walked up, some people yelled at him. Headmistress McGonagall silenced the boos with her stern hand.

"Malfoy, Scorpius".

Scorpius's face was terrified and the hat took a while.

Everyone in Gryffindor seemed shocked. There were a few half hearted attempts at claps. Rose felt bad for him.

She spaced out till she heard:

"Potter, Al".

Al walked up confidently to the hat and sat down.

Again everyone was shocked. A deathly silence fell over the hall. Then the Slytherins started clapping. They weren't a bad sort, they were just given a bad reputation.

Soon she heard:

"Weasley, Rose".

It was her turn. Everyone was staring at her as she took steps toward the hat. Each set felt like her legs were made out of cement.

Then everything went dark as the hat went over her head.

"Hmm, brains, very loyal to her friends, ambitious, and a strong sense of bravery. Hmm, you could be in any of the houses. This is rare, very rare. I think I will put you in Gryffindor because I can tell your friend will need you. Yes, I think it is the best choice". The hat said this quietly.

The hat proclaimed to the crowd:

Rose couldn't believe her luck, she was going to be in a house with her friend Scorpius Malfoy.
