Killing the Dead

Eris has always felt weird, out of place, and lost in her life. She is alone, apart from her brother Ciel, because of her eyes (left eye purple, right blue) and her unfriendlyness. But she is deadly smart, cunning, clever and curious. One day her curiosity goes too far...and she is sent into the world where the humans kill the dead...otherwise known as the Dead Hunters!

8. The Man (Attacking)

The only alive people here are the Dead Hunters!!

 What?
That meant either two things. First, I was dead. Second, I was a Dead Hunter. Neither were true. I had never been a Dead Hunter. I have not died yet. What did it mean? I look behind me, to the almost closed window. Maybe I can get answers in here.

I examine the window. It seemed to be the kind that you can't see in, but you can see out. The glass was open just a crack. I pull it up and squeeze myself through; it was pretty small. I land on a muddy substance on the floor and slip on it. "Ah, crap...gross.." I say quietly. Then I hear, "Excuse me?" I jump.

It was a boy's voice, someone my age or older. I glance around and realize this is a bathroom, a foggy bathroom, and the voice is coming from the tub in the corner. Crap. Of all the places to land in...I try to act like I didn't here anything and sneak across the room to the door out, but a knife lands in the wall in front of me, barely missing my nose.

"I know you're there, kiddo. Come on, say something." I remain silent. I reach for the door, and the voice says, "Don't even try. It's locked. And you can't get out the window. It's shut." I don't remember closing it, but then I look and see he's right. I can't help it, and I feel stupid, but I hold back a laugh. "What's so funny?" says the voice behind the drapes.

I quickly decide whether to say something or not. But he already heard me, so, "It..it's you...you've thought of everything!"
I sense a smile in his voice. "Well," he says, "I never want any of you goddang dead people runnin' around, trespassin' in Dead Hunter property." Ah, so this place belongs to the Dead Hunters. That means they're alive. Maybe I CAN get some answers.

I tell him, "Well, sir, I'm not dead nor do I hunt anyone, so I'm not trespassing or allowed in here, aren't I?" I wait for his answer, but this time he stays silent. I can't see well in this shower fog. There's no mirror here. Hmm...

Then something scary happens. I hear the drapes flapping around, and next thing I now I've been pinned to the ground, by long, sturdy pale arms. I can't see a face yet, but I sure can see the knife hovering above my chin.
