"It's just a popularity contest," She Said.

"It's just a popularity contest, there's nothing else to it." She said. But little did she know, this "popularity contest" was going to change her life whether she liked it or not.

3. Painful Memories

Kelsey's POV

"I've missed you so much Joshie." I looked up at him with tears in my eyes, making him looked blurred. I miss the friendship Josh and I had but I guess I just bottled it up and never came out with the truth. Every time I think about that day, I cry. For years our friendship was so strong and last year, in 8th grade, it just disappeared.

"Kelsey, please don't cry. I'm so sorry. I know I was stupid for letting our friendship go, I know that. But you have to believe me when I say that I had a reason, it may have been a stupid reason, but I had a reason. Kelsey, I've missed you too. I'm so sorry." In the process, Josh snaked his arms around me and pulled me close, holding me tightly. I couldn't hold back the tear, the memories of the day that ended our friendship coming back to me.

*Flashback*

"Josh, can we talk, please?" I asked my so called 'best friend' who was playing soccer with his friends on the hill of our elementary school.

"Okay, whatever." Josh rolled his eyes, passed the ball to one of his friends and started towards me, an annoyed expression on his face.

"What's wrong Josh? You never talk to me anymore, you never hang out with me anymore. What gives? What did I do?" Recently, Josh has been ignoring me to the max. He ignores my calls, my texts. He doesn't even talk to  me in school anymore. I honestly have no idea what I did but I'm going to find out.

"Okay, Kelsey. I'm tired of always having to be with you. You don't own me! I can hangout and talk to whoever I want." He snapped at me. I could feel tears forming in my eyes. Where was this coming from? I've never once told him who to hangout with and who to talk to. Nor have I stopped him from having friends.

"I know I don't own you! I never said I did! And never have I ever stopped you from hanging out with someone so you can just stop! All I wanted to know is why all of a sudden you freaking hate me!" I screamed, tears falling, my breath increasing. Lauryn was behind me and Jake was behind Josh, looking horrified at his friends previous actions.

"Josh, calm down. She just wants to know why you're acting like a prick. And honestly, I wouldn't mind knowing either." Jake told Josh, Abby holding on to his arm. I guess it was safe to say that in this state, Josh was scaring everyone.

"Jake, screw off! No one was ever talking to you so just stay out of it. This is between me and Kelsey." Josh snapped once again. I was trying to stay strong, I tried to hold back the tears but failed horribly.

"Josh stop snapping at everyone! I love you and I just want to know what I did!" I cried, I really did love Josh; as a brother of course.

"Okay, you know what? Screw you. Don't talk to me. I'm done with you. I never have and never will love you." He said through gritted teeth, his expression blank. Everyone was gathered around, Josh and I in he middle of the circle that had formed. Everyone had the same expression on their faces; shock. Shocked because this wasn't the Josh we know. I slowly made my way up to Josh so that way our noses were touching.

"No problem. I won't bother you ever again. I promise, Joshie." I spat bitterly but barely audible so only Josh could hear. And with that, I turned around and pushed my way through the crowd of people that had formed around us. I ran down the hill, into the school and into the bathroom, sitting down in a stall crying rather loudly; Lauryn and Abby closely behind.
