7. Chapter 7

I can’t believe it. It’s Elias.

He sent the flowers that were outside this morning. I can’t believe Mary was right, he has chosen me. Of course I accepted. I have been waiting so long for this moment. He seemed so happy that I had accepted him, but why wouldn’t I. He did spin me around outside of church which of course upset some adults, but we were both so happy. The shock of it is still settling in.

As it’s Sunday, we aren’t working today, so Elias invited me to green meadow, apparently a group of people are relaxing there today. I can’t wait; he’ll be coming to meet me soon so I should probably get ready.

Elias’ Diary

She said yes! I can’t describe how happy I am. Although things could have gone wrong. I signed the note ‘E’ and after church I saw her talking to Edward Rosser, I was so scared that she might get the wrong idea, luckily they didn’t seem to talk about much before he walked away. That was when I went up to her and told her it was me. At first I thought she might not accept, she was just staring at me, in shock I think. But then she nodded, and smiled making her dimples appear.
I have to say I might have been a bit presumptuous, as I gave her a huge hug and swung her round. The adults who were standing around didn’t seem at all impressed.
I’m not surprised really; we are only just courting, so it’s not really right for us to be public. Seeing as its Sunday, we aren’t supposed to do anything today; no working, no cooking, nothing. So I got a group together and we are all going to relax in green meadow for the day. I said I would walk Alicia there so I should probably go.
