'Please... please don't leave me, I don't want to be alone...'

14. Chapter 14

I was woken by the familiar patter of stones against my window. This time I didn’t hesitate in getting out of bed, I flung open the shutters and peeked my head out. “Elias?” I breathed.
“Ow...” He whispered back, “You caught my chin with the shutters,” I stifled a giggle with my hand. I apologised quickly and closed the shutters, retreating back into the cottage. I flung my cloak around my shoulders, once again not bothering with boots. Quickly unravelling my plait I rushed out of the door, accidently letting the latch click twice. I rested my ear against the door but no sound came from within. A pair of hands crept around my waist, gently pulling me into a hug. I leant back against Elias, relaxing for a minute before we set off. He seemed to be expecting me to be barefoot, and wasn’t even surprised when he looked at me feet, just scooping me up in his arms again.

Once again we were heading for the spring, once on the grass he gently put me down. Our fingers entangled and we walked silently until we reached the tree from the other night. I have to make him break his promise... one way or another.

He slumped down to the ground, pulling me down with him. I fell into his lap which I suspect he planned. I giggled and wrapped my arms round his neck, leaning against his chest. We didn’t speak and I could hear the gentle thud of his heart beating by my ear. He kissed my forehead, and I looked up. He was gazing down at me, his face a masterpiece in the moonlight. I brought his face down to mine, kissing him softly. Our lips moved in synchronisation, he had his hands in my hair, gently cradling my head. His fingertips traced a pattern on my cheeks, leaving a tingle wherever they went. All too soon he pulled apart, laughing softly at my disappointed pout.

“C’mon it’s a warm night lets go paddling,” He suggested, trying to distract me. It worked, but I had an idea. He kicked off his shoes - he was already wearing cut off trousers. I sat on a rock at the water’s edge, gently dipping my toes. Technically Elias wasn’t allowed to see anything above my ankles, but it wasn’t like anybody would know... right? Elias was wading through the water in my direction, “What are you-” I was cut off when he sent a huge arc of water soaring though the air towards me.  I shrieked joyously, covering my face as the water splashed all over me. “I’ll get my revenge!” I promised him. I quickly pulled my skirt and cloak up to my knees and slid into the water.

Elias gazed hungrily at my newly exposed legs, but pulled his eyes up to my face. I raised an eyebrow at him and he backed away slowly. A sly grin spread across his face, he flicked more water at me and I responded using my foot to send a huge spray of water into his face.   He retaliated quickly and I spun away so it hit my back, laughing I held my skirts up with one hand, so I could scoop some water. I flicked it in his face and then ran away. I could hear him chasing me, making huge splashes that were probably soaking his trousers. Suddenly I started falling; I must have tripped on a stone. Panic filled my mind and I let out a scream, but then arms were around me, catching me just before I hit the water. Elias quickly scooped me up so my clothes didn’t get wet, carrying me out of the stream and setting me down on dry ground.

I hid my face in his shoulder, letting my breathing return to normal. “Are you okay?” He asked me gently. I nodded, there was a small cut on my foot but it had already stopped bleeding. I reached my hands around his neck, pulling his face down to mine. He kissed me back for a second but pulled away all too soon. “Alicia... no, we can’t” I pouted up at him.
“Please,” I whispered. He started to shake his head but I interrupted. “It might be our last chance; you know the Lord’s daughter has fallen ill, and countless servants. The rumours are true, you know they are. What if we don’t survive this, what if-” he abruptly brought his mouth down onto mine, silencing me. I responded instantly, using my grip around his neck to bring him closer to me. He pushed me up against the trunk of the tree, using it to push his body into mine. Our tongues battled once again, as his hands lit my body on fire. I could feel the passion building inside me again; but I knew he felt the same. My fingers crept down him, unbuttoning his shirt, and exposing his muscled chest. He crushed his body against mine but it still wasn’t enough. All too soon he pulled away; I should have known he would. We were both breathing hard and fast, and he backed away slightly to give us both room to breathe.

“You should get home...”
