The Devil's Kettle

What would you do differently if you had another chance to live? This is the question an ignorant boy named Charlie asked himself soon after he's trapped between worlds, in a place called Limbo. --------

I was inspired by a few books I've read of hell and I decided to make my own version of it. If you read every chapter, you'll see how everything connects in the story.

2. The Girl in White

"One, two, three, knock on the wall!

"One, two, three knock on the wall," someone sang outside as if playing a game of tag.

"One, two, three, knock on the wall," the voice of a kid began to echo in my room.

I woke with a start and gasped. I looked around my new room and the white boring walls -at least some things never change. A very dull gray light took place of the dream I just had of my old life. The moon had the shape of a perfect sphere and the gray clouds converged into the moon until there was nothing but darkness. I slid out of bed and headed to the only window in my room. I pressed my hands against the cold window glass and saw a white figure faintly moving  under the willow tree.

This is just a dream, I told myself, but the figure wouldn't disappear. I was absolutely sure that we didn't have any neighbors. I took a deep breath and decided to go out.

Once outside, the figure became a girl in white. She wasn't wearing any shoes just a dress beset with white pearls like the girl on the painting.

"One, two, three, knock on the wall!" the girl sang again. She was facing the tree and I couldn't see her face, just her blond braided hair.

"Hey, what are you doing out here in the middle of the night?" I asked as I approached her gingerly. "Aren't you cold?" Suddenly, the girl slowly began to turn around and giggled.

"Oh, god...! " I shouted ineffectively. My pulse was thudding in my ears. A cold hand then firmly grabbed my right shoulder.

"Charlie, what's going on? I heard you get out, is there something wrong?" Henry said worriedly.

                "The girl, she doesn't have a ..."

"What girl?' said Henry as he interrupted what I was about to say even though it would sound completely insane, "look it's late, we need to get back inside and try to sleep. Tomorrow, I want you to see someone you've probably forgotten about."

"Henry, I heard someone singing and ..."

His face tensed. "You can tell me about it tomorrow, lets go back to sleep."

The cemetery next to the cabin captured my interest as we walked back. I saw the girl again, kneeling on one of the graves. Henry's droopy eyes didn't even bother to see slightly to the right.
