The Secret in the Woods: Jay

Jay has spent her life always feeling like the odd one out. Well, she is, no denying that, what with her powers, but that doesn't make trying to live a normal life any easier. Especially because she is constantly jumping from one foster home to the other. One day, she experiences something amazing and terrifying that will change her life forever... and she's not alone.

2. Welcome to Sunny Side

I decide that I need to find out more about these girls.

“What are your names? I’m Amber Inferna” The girl with the bow asks before I can.

“I’m Serena Aquarius,” Said the girl in blue, followed by the girl who throws knives,

“I’m Lily A’Terra.” I hesitated because they were strangers and we had never met before. I finally replied, “I’m Jay. Jay Tempesta.”

“Wait, so you guys are saying you all have powers too? Because that would be SO cool if you did. I can control nature and animals and a ton of other cool stuff. What about you guys?” said Lily eagerly. I waited a second before replying sarcastically,”No. Those wings? Cardboard. And that obviously wasn’t me who shocked you and made the thunder and lightning,” Amber snorted slightly, “Whatever. I can control fire and heat.” Serena added. “I can control the water, and I’m also a mermaid.”  “Oh?” I asked “I can create storms, acid rain, lots of natural disasters, I have wings, and much more to offer.” “Okay, instead of bragging,” Amber said with a pointed look at me, “Why don’t we make this all of our special spot and train here with out powers and weapons?”

We all reluctantly return to our lame excuse for a home to eat dinner. I automatically go to my favorite spot in the cafeteria, the farthest corner from anyone else, so then they can’t tease me. I start to tentatively eat, when I hear trays clatter on the table. It’s the biggest bully of the place, Sam, and her crew of buffoons. She’s so big and has a lot of muscle mass that no one bothers her. Except me. I can easily take her in a fight, but I always refrain from using my powers against normal people. “Hey there, sparky.” She sneers at me. “What’cha got there, huh? Some foodie woodie for the wittle baby?” She taunts while making tear motions with her hands. “Go away, before I have to make you, Sam.” I reply.

Suddenly, the glass of yellow liquid (lemonade, by the looks of it) on her tray spills all over the front of her pants. She jumps back with a yelp, and I send a mild pulse of electricity on to the juice. She screams even louder then flees the cafeteria followed by her gang. Serena, Amber, Lily, and Ellie join me at the table.

“Thanks.” I say so only Serena can hear. She nods ever so slightly. “Wow, what are the chances of that glass spilling right there like that! I mean, It’s almost like one of you guys did that!” Ellie mused loudly. “Yeah, hehe.” Serena says cautiously. Once we finish dinner, it’s lights out, and I settle into bed. I’m not expecting to get much sleep tonight, because of the excitement of the day.
