27. Emptiness

Emptiness. That's all I felt. Just nothing. Words couldn't describe pain in my chest. It was as if I had to put in more of an effort to keep my heart beating. And as if at any moment it was just cut out. I wished this would happen. My only friend was gone. Snatched from my so suddenly. So violently.

After Alex's aunt showed up, I explained to her what happened. She called 911, and an ambulance arrived, to take him to hospital. The scene was blurry. My eyes burned as I tried to see through my warm tears. I was still covered in his blood. It was on my shirt, in my hair, all over my fingers. Part of me didn't want to wash it off. It felt like I had a part of him with me.

So there I was, sitting beside him as he lay lifelessly in a hospital bed. I admired the millions of wires that attached his dying body to a machine. A machine that was keeping him alive. They pretty much said there wasn't any hope of a recovery, but his aunt told them she will accept the offer of keeping him on life support for the night.

I looked at his finger, that I kept interlocked with mine. I stroked his skin. His cold skin, that once used to be so warm and send shock waves through me every time we touched. I moved my fingers onto his wrist, onto where his pulse once was. I tried so hard to find a rhythm. The same rhythm he was singing too on the night of the concert at which we first met.

I couldn't hold it him. I felt my neck weaken, causing my head to fall onto his chest. I let out a fierce cry that represented every emotion that was rushing around my body. I felt my stomach burn inside me and my eyes sting with tears.

I heard the door open and a doctor walked in, followed by a police officer. He looked quite serious, yet understanding at the same time.

"Ms Price." He said. "We need you to answer a few questions."
