Evie POV

We had finished the run and the push ups and sit ups. I could tell that they were all tired but I really didn’t care, they needed to work harder.

“Partner up!” I shouted, receiving a few glares in return. “Glare at me all you want, I’m not gonna disappear.” Skylar came and stood beside me as all the pack members found partners.

“It’s worse than I expected.” He muttered. I hummed in agreement. “Oh, here comes trouble” Skylar took a protective step slightly in front of me as John stormed over. I stared at him with a curiously, what was he doing?

“What exactly do you think you were doing fighting that werewolf in human form? You could have gotten seriously hurt”, he seethed. Skylar let out a defensive growl; I put a hand on his shoulder and gently moved him out of the way so there was nothing between me and my ‘father’. If I thought I was angry when he had called me his daughter, it was nothing compared to the hatred flowing through my veins right now.

“Why would you care?” I replied coolly, surprised at myself for sounding so collected as the inferno raged inside me.

“Why wouldn’t I care, your my dau-.”  I cut him off.

“I am not you anything” I reminded him with blazing eyes.

“It still doesn’t change the fact that you took on a wolf.”

“You didn’t seem to care all those years ago; actually you were very much for it.” I replied through gritted teeth as I gestured to my collar bone. His face paled as he stared at my claw marks….. his claw marks.

“Don’t forget the arm and the leg, John.” I spat.  His eyes followed down to the scars on my arm and then switched to my leg.

“Evie, I’m so sor-. “ I cut him off again.

“I don’t want to hear it John.”

“No, you need to hear it. I need you to hear it.”

“What makes you think that I care what you need? You never cared about me, and now I come back and you expect me to hug you and be your daughter. You lost that right when you nearly killed me, repeatedly.”

“I was going through a rough time, your mother, my mate left me.”

“You were going through a rough time for three whole years?! She didn’t only leave you, she left me too, you asshole.” His face softened a fraction, only the slightest. “You never thought of that, you only thought of how she left you! But she left me to John and then look what happened; you turned into an alcoholic, man whore that physically, mentally and verbally abused his daughter day after day.” He winched as I rattled off all the things he had become in those dreadful three years.

“Evie, I wasn’t myself in those years. I know what I did to you was horrible-“

“Horrible doesn’t even begin to cover it. I was scared for my life every time you came near me. I was ELEVEN years old for crying out loud!”

“I need you, I love you Evie, you have to give at least give me a chance to make this right.” He all but cried, I would have laughed if I wasn’t as furious as I was. The fact that he ‘needed’ me just showed how weak he was, he thought that just because he was my biological father I would come crawling back to him? John saying that he loved me was what really tipped me over the edge.

“No-one is ever going to love you. You are just an ugly, pathetic excuse of a werewolf and I will make sure that you never forget me.” I quoted him from that dreaded day seven years ago. I looked him in the eyes and continued the rest of his little speech.  “I am going to make sure that you think of me every time you look in the mirror.” His face had gone deathly pale as he once again stared at all of the scars he had inflicted. I could tell that he was re-living the events of that day, his eyes clouded over as the images played over in his mind.

“You got your wish John; I never forgot you and I sure as hell think of you every time I look in the mirror” I stated calmly, a hint of anguish slipped through my calm demeanour. This seemed to hit him harder than when I was yelling at him. “So, I’m sorry if I find it hard to believe that you love me”. His mouth opened and closed like a fish as he tried to find the words.

I can’t do the training right now, so send them back or you can do the training. I just can’t.”  I mind-linked the boys whilst I started to walk away from John.

“TRAINING IS CANCELED FOR TODAY, YOU ARE DISMISSED!” Jacob addressed the pack as he took long strides to catch up with me. His arm wrapped around my shoulders as he steered me away from the pack house. I look up at him questionably.

“Where are we going?” He didn’t answer; he just continued to steer me towards the woods.  When we finally reached, he let my shoulders go and walked behind a tree. He came out a few minutes later in his wolf form.

“Ohhhhh, we’re going for a run?” I questioned with a raised eyebrow. Jacob just nodded his wolfy head and motioned to the tree. I quickly went behind it and removed my clothes. White wolves can shift with their clothes and have them remain intact, though it didn’t feel the same. So when we could we shifted without our clothes. I rejoiced in the feeling of my bones cracking and shifting, imagine stretching after sitting down for a whole day.  I returned from behind the tree and joined Jacob. It was defiantly a sight to see, two white wolves running along side by side, occasionally jumping and tackling each other. I eventually forgot about my stupid father, if only for a few hours.

The sky started turning from its light blue to a dark purple and I knew it was time to start heading back. I returned to the tree and quickly shifted back and put my clothes on. Jacob did the same and soon we were walking back to the pack house.

Do you want to talk about it?” He asked quietly, not wanting to upset me.

“I’m fine, nothing I can’t handle.” I replied back with a nonchalant shrug of my shoulders. Jacob let out a short sigh and continued walking. He knew that if I didn’t want to talk, I wasn’t going to.

We reached the door to the pack house and I let out a long sigh, why did I agree to this? Well, there’s no going back now, the quicker we get this done the quicker we can leave.

“Ahem to that” Jacob mumbled beside me. He saw my confused face and chuckled. “You left your mind-link open, I’ve been listening to your thoughts for the past couple hours.”

“You’re so annoying” I growled playfully.

“You know you love me” he smiled kindly down at me, “and I only wanted to make sure you were okay, I saw the look on your face when you were talking to him.” He paused for a moment, deep in thought as he sniffed the air with a strange look on his face. He quickly shook it off and continued like nothing happened. “Now come on, the boys are probably wondering where we are”.  With a laugh I opened the door and walked through with Jacob hot on my heels.

I felt him suddenly stop and sniff the air again, I was about to ask him what was happening when his eyes glazed over and he stared at something behind me. I turned around to see what he was staring at and my eyes found a young woman who looked slightly older than me. She was staring at Jacob with a small smile on her face, I realised what was happening and the word that left Jacobs mouth confirmed my theory.
