A Breakfast at Tiffany’s Style Romance

A/N: For the anon who suggested the Breakfast at Tiffany’s prompt. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of my favourite films so I thought id take a crack at it.

Tom Hiddleston, a 25 year old actor with black curly hair and blue green eyes moves to New York to try and break into the film/ theatre industry as an actor. When he’s moving in to his flat he meets Charlotte (Charlie) Rhodes, a kooky 21 year old woman and Broadway actress who is also his neighbour. Will a romance blossom between the two or will they just remain friends?

Chapter 1:

Tom couldn’t believe he was here. He’d always wanted to come to New York ever since he was a little kid and watched all those movies set here. This was also one of the reasons he wanted to be an actor.

Some would have said London was the place, which it wasn’t in his opinion; he soon got bored of the place, especially when nothing was going his way. What made Tom think he would break New York when he couldn’t break London he had no idea, he just knew he had to try.

As the taxi drove over the Brooklyn Bridge he took in all the beautiful surroundings. New York in all it’s finery. He checked in his pocket for his keys but found they weren’t there. ` Shit` he cursed under his breath. He’d have to make a phone call when he got to his new apparentment to ask for the keys.

The yellow taxi cab soon pulled up outside a block of brownstone apartment flats on East 71st street. He paid and thanked the driver before getting his suitcases out of the boot, straightening his leather jacket, removing his black raybans to the top of his head and walking up the steps to the apparentment building with the dark green door.

He buzzed any random flat he could, he needed to get into the flat and use someone’s phone to collect his keys. He soon got buzzed in and made his way up the many stairs to the apartment of the person who let him in.

Tom knocked on the door. He could hear someone padding around inside. He knocked again. A woman with brown hair to her shoulders answered the door a few minutes later dressed in leopard print pajamers and slippers. Tom couldn’t help but notice how cute she looked.

Charlie stood in awe at the man standing at her door. She mentally cursed herself for letting anyone see her in her pajamers, let alone a handsome stanger. She couldn’t help but take in his appearance, dressed in a white t shirt, black leather jacket, a pair of well fitted dark blue jeans and worn cowboy boots, black sunglasses atop of his black curls.

She smiled clearing her throat.

“Erm good morning, how can I help you?” she asked.

“Err hi, Thankyou for buzzing me in, I’ve just moved in upstairs, atleast I will be when I get my keys through, I wondered if I could use your phone?”

“Yeah…sure…no problem. Come in” Charlie opened the door a little wider to allow the handsome stranger into her flat.

Tom walked into the flat placing his suitcases on the wooden floor by the door, his black leather jacket on top.

The flat was open plan, a modern day New York apartment. As Tom walked in he was greeted with a living room which included a leather sofa and a black flat screen TV, a round table in the middle of the room and cupboards to the side of that and a hallway which he assumed led to her bedroom and bathroom to his right.

He stared in awe. It was lovely. He only hoped his flat upstairs was as nice as this.

Suddenly a blonde Labrador came running out from down the hall from the room Tom assumed to be the young woman’s bedroom. He knelt down and stroked him playing with his ears.

“Don’t worry it wont hurt you, she’s harmless, aren’t you dog”

“Doesn’t she have a name?”

“I didn’t think it right to give her a name when we don’t belong to one another”

“What do you mean?”

“I found her walking along the river one day and she just kind of followed me home” replied the woman as she began putting dog food into a bowl.

Tom smiled and nodded. “I see” Charlie looked at him and smiled.

“I’m sorry, you wanted something. Oh that’s right, the telephone” she padded across the room fishing under the sofa for phone handing it to him.

He took it with a smile. She looked at his watch and panicked. 9am Thursday 12th May it read. “Oh no, Im late, it can’t be Thursday.”

“What’s wrong with Thursday?”

“Nothing, accept I never know when it’s coming up and I have an audition this morning” she ran into her room pulling out a simple black dress from her wardrobe before going into the bathroom to change.

Tom put the phone down and followed her into her bedroom just as the door to the bathroom closed. He looked around the room taking in the surroundings, a simple double bed, a silver bedside table and a window looking out onto the New York skyline.

“What’s the audition for if you don’t mind me asking?” Tom asked her through the door.

“Oh, they’re holding auditions for someone to play Holly Golightly in a Broadway production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s” she replied fixing her hair into an updo.

She came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, black dress on, her hair tied up.

“I have to say I’m amazed. You look quite the part, Miss Golightly”

“Actually, it’s Miss Rhodes. Charlotte Rhodes, but you can call me Charlie. I thought if im going to audition for the role I may aswell dress the part. If you could be an angel and find a pair of black shoes which should be under the bed I’d be very grateful.”

“I’m Tom. Tom Hiddleston and sure” Tom tried his best to fit under the bed to find her shoes despite his long lean frame.

He emerged a few minutes later with one shoe. “I’m sorry but I could only find this one” Charlie took it from him finding the other in her bedside draw. How it got there she had no idea.

Tom followed Charlie out of the room back into her apartment, out of the door and down the stairs to the sunny New York morning that awaited them.

He put his hand out for a taxi but none stopped. Charlie put her hands in her mouth and whistled to call one. A yellow cab arrived a few minutes later. Tom looked at her amazed with a raised eyebrow.

“I never could do that”

“It’s easy” she replied with what seemed like no effort atall. Tom stepped forward to open the taxi door but was greeted by a young woman with blonde hair carrying a spare door key on her middle finger. She thanked the driver and got out.

“Thomas darling, it’s so lovely to see you. I bought you your spare key.” Tom plastered on a fake smile.

“Hello Jennifer” he told her through gritted teeth. He returned to his normal smile when he saw Charlie looking at him. He looked between the two women. Charlie dressed as Audrey Hepburn with her beautiful brown hair in an updo and then Jennifer, the blonde bombshell with long blonde hair and big boobs. Why she had to bring him his keys rather than Ben, his agent he had no idea. It was obvious Jennifer liked him by the way she stared at him. It creeped him out.

Charlie looked at the blonde infront of her, she wasn’t going to let it bother her if this Tom she had only just met had a girlfriend, no matter how gorgeous he was. She cleared her throat going to ask if she was through so she could get into the taxi and go to the theatre but Tom spoke first.

“Charlie this is Jennifer, a friend of my agent, Ben. Jennifer this is Charlie my neighbour.” Jennifer gave Charlie the once over, clearly not caring who she was. She gave a fake smile before giving Tom a kiss on the cheek.

Charlie got in the taxi before Jennifer could say anything about her appearance. The last thing she heard was Tom wishing her luck. Hopefully she wouldn’t need it; Breakfast at Tiffany’s was one of her favourite movies so she knew it pretty much by heart.

Tom stared out into the empty street long after the taxi had pulled away. Hopefully he would get to see more of his beautiful young neighbour in the future. He was pulled out of his trance by Jennifer coughing for him to follow her up to the flat. Tom sighed, putting his hands in his jeans pocket and following her up the steps into the brownstone apartment building.
