“Remember when you left without saying goodbye?” he asked.
“Yes” I replied sadly, remembering it like it was yesterday.
“Promise me you’ll never do it again.”
“I promise”

19. You're Different

A/N: Hope you guys enjoy reading it just as much as i enjoyed writing it. And yes Josie, you're in this chapter

I cried. I lay on my bed, flat on my stomach and cried. My pillow was moist from the tears. Not because he read it, because they thought it was a joke. Someone knocked on my bedroom door, but before I could say anything they had already came in. “Karmen?” it was Harry. “You are the LAST person I want to talk to right now” I spat at him; face still buried in my pillow. “Please just talk to me” he said, sitting next to me on the bed. I didn’t answer him. “Why did you get so upset? I know it was wrong for Louis and I to read it, but I never remember you being so sensitive.” He spoke quietly.                                                                    “You thought it was funny, like it was some kind of joke!” I spat, sitting up and facing him. “...and that day was the day I knew I didn’t want to leave, because of you!” I tried to calm myself down but it wasn’t working. I could see Harry getting angry. His jaw clenching. “Then why did you?!” His sudden raise in voice made me slightly jump. He quickly calmed himself down and continued. “Don’t act like you didn’t want to leave, you always wanted to. And don’t tell me that I’m the reason you wanted to stay.”

Harry’s POV:

If I was the reason she wanted to stay, why’d she leave? “You don’t believe me…” she was hurt. “I didn’t say th-…” “No, that’s exactly what you’re saying.” She bit back. “Look Karmen, it’s just, when you left…I-I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know if you were safe and I couldn’t think straight. You were my best friend… my girlfriend, and I just wanted to hear from you. To know if you still cared.”                                                 “Of course I did” she said, giving me a warming smile. I smiled back.                                                                                “I still don’t understand…” she added. “What?”                                                                                                                                 “Why me? Why were you friends with me? I was the outcast and you chose to be my friend…Why?”   “Because it felt like a great opportunity to meet someone different than the others…”

“Admit it, Josie Marie is the most angelic name you’ve ever heard” My friend Josie always wanted to be right and most of the time she was but this time she’s completely wrong. “If anything, Harry is the most angelic name” I protested. “Whatever” she laughed. We had already taken our seats in class and were waiting for our teacher to start the lesson. Being in year four is tough, but having a good friend always makes it better. That was Josie. She wasn’t my BEST friend but was a great person to talk to.

Mrs. Williams was about to start the lesson, but someone knocked on the class room door. She walked towards the door and opened it “One moment class, start reading while you wait” she said as she stepped outside to talk to someone. “Who do you think it is?” Josie asked. “I don’t know”. A couple of minutes passed before Mrs. Williams came back in the room but walking beside her was a girl. They went to the front of the class and the teacher spoke, “Class, we have a new student joining us today. She came all the way from the states. Would you like to say your name?” she said to the girl. She nodded, “Karmen” she said with a smile. It was weird; she didn’t seem shy for her first day. Her smile soon dropped when some girls across the room started laughing at her. “That’s enough girls…” Mrs. Williams spoke “Now go find a seat, love” The girl, Karmen, looked around but everyone kept sending her nasty looks.

After a while, I decided to speak up. “You can sit with us” I said, waving to her and smiling. She slightly smiled before making her way over to Josie and I. She sat down, “Hi, I’m Josie” “Karmen” she said. She then looked at me; I guess waiting for me to say something. “I’m Harry” “Hi” she responded. “So you’re from the states” Josie said.  “Yeah, California to be exact.” She replied with a wide grin. “Hollywood?!” Josie nearly shrieked. “No, but not too far away.” She laughed. I already knew she was going to be great.

(After School Ended)

I usually walk home by myself. My school only being ten minutes away from my house. As I was walking, I saw someone being surrounded by the mean girls in my class. Karmen. They were yelling at her and laughing. I didn’t know what they were saying but it must’ve been hurtful because she started crying. I walked over to them, “Is everything alright?” I said, joining the circle that surrounded Karmen. “Sure, just having some fun with the new girl” Cara said. Gosh, she was mean. “Well, it doesn’t look like she’s having fun” I said, stepping closer to Karmen and picking up her bag that they rudely knocked down. “Have it your way.” They said before leaving. “You OK?” I asked. She nodded, covering her face. I gently moved her hands out of her face, “You’re crying.” I said while wiping her tears away. “Come on, let me walk you home.” I put her bag on her back and we started to walk. She gave me the directions to her house, telling me which street to enter and which road to cross. We had finally got there. “That’s weird…” I said chuckling “…You live right down the street from me.” I said pointing to my house that was only five houses down. “Thank you” she spoke. “No problem” She smiled, “Well, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow” “Yeah, tomorrow” I said back. I meet new people everyday but, this time was different. I know she’s gonna be a good friend.

*End of Flashback*

“…You were different Karmen and I admired that about you.” I finished. After those words were spoken, we were calm and it felt like every toxin of anger in our body was removed. “Thank you so much…” she said while coming closer and hugging me “…for everything.”

“Diner’s ready!” Aubrey yelled from downstairs. We both went downstairs and saw that everyone was already seated.
