Cameron doesn't normally have to work for girls, but Elena comes with many challenges for the popular boy. Elena doesn't understand how Cam could possibly like her, so can he make her stay long enough to see it?

4. School Day

I met Matt's friends that were sitting with him at the lunch table. Jenna introduced me to Ben, Rachel, and Jason.

Ben was a tall basketball player, who used to live near me. I never knew him though. He had blonde hair, and blue eyes. Rachel was a really spunky girl with black hair. She added pink highlights, bright clothes and a lot of bracelets.

Jason was really cool. He had dirty blonde hair, and a really sweet smile. He was the one to offer me a chair. He stood up to move the chairs over, and he towered over me.

"Thanks." I said, and smiled at all of them.

They're so welcoming... I wonder why.

It's not that I think they have an alternate reason for being nice, but I don't want to be too trusting at first. I barely know them.

"So, Elena, right?" Ben asked, in between bites of a few French fries.

I grinned. "No, actually."

He grimaced. "Sorry. I guess I wasn't paying attention."

"Nah, I'm just kidding. That's my name." I laughed.

"Oh, she's funny. Matt where did you find this one?" Jason said, grinning at Matt.

"She seems alright." Rachel whispered, a little too loudly to Ben.

Ben shook his head. "Rach, be nice. She's new."

I blushed a little and ate quietly. I stood up to throw away my food, but Jason grabbed my arm.

"I got it. I was going to throw mine away anyways."

"Thanks!" I called as he winked back at me.

Jenna could only keep from saying anything. She grinned wickedly at me from across the table.

"No," I mouthed at her.

She slumped, and I couldn't help laughing. Matt raised his eyebrows, but didn't say anything.

We laughed and talked about different things. Even about how bad this food was.

I already liked them, although I wasn't too sure about Rachel.

Soon, it was time to go back to class, and I got up with Matt.

"See you around, Elena." Jason said.

"Bye newbie." Ben said, and grinned.

Rachel didn't say anything, but nodded at me and turned to follow Ben.

"Later!" I called.

"Elena, let's go," said Matt, urging me to finally leave.

Cam had left already, and I couldn't help but feel strangely disappointed I didn't get to glare at him again.

I spent the rest of the day wondering why he talked to me.

I mean, of course I did other things too. Like help Matt carry his books to his next class, and I wandered around until the bell rang for the last class. This was his free period.

"You still here?" Matt said.

"Why wouldn't I be?" I asked, laughing.

"Most newbies usually go home and do some other crap for the rest of the day. We only have one more period you know."

I nodded and we walked towards the front of the school grounds.

"So... Elena. What is Cam saying to you?" Matt asked.

"Nothing really. He's so strange."

I paused to look out over the front lawn. "Why do you ask?"

"He used to be a really cool guy. But one day, he just stopped hanging out with just anyone. He started dating Amber Clish. He became... sort of...."

"Elitist?" I finished for him.

"Yeah." Matt was silent.

"Wait. Amber? Tall girl with straight blonde hair?"

"Yeah. You meet the girl?"

I nodded slightly. "I might've pissed her off a little."

"She's such a priss. She'll get over it."

We sat around waiting in the front parking lot, and talked about art, school, movies, and many other things.

Matt was really cool, and I liked having him as a friend.

Soon enough, the bell rang, and Jenna came out of the doors talking to Jason.

"Jay and I were thinking..." she said.

"Uh oh, she's using the old noodle."

"First of all, no one calls it a noodle, idiot." Jenna snapped, smiling. "Now shut up and listen."

Jason leaned against the bench where we were sitting. "How about the four of us go to that place that just opened up on Market Street. That new pizza place."

"Mmm.. Sounds great." Matt said, his stomach agreeing with him.

"Nice, man," said Jason, shaking his head.

"What do you think Elena? Would your mom  let you go?"

"Yeah, I'll text her and let her know I'll be late getting home. She can pick me up there."

"No way. I'll drive you home, loser," said Jenna, linking arms with me again.

"Alright. Let's go guys." Matt said, pulling out his keys.

Jason stopped. "Ben said he can come too, but Rachel has to do some studying, so she can't."

"Tell him we'll meet him there," I said, as Jenna pulled me to her car.

"Will do. Matt, I'm riding with you." Jason said.

"So are you dating anyone?" Jenna said, as she drove.

"Nah," I said, laughing.

"Why not?" Jenna asked. "You're totally cute, and I heard Matt telling Jason he couldn't make a move or any crap on you."

"Matt said that?" I asked, startled.

"Don't worry. He doesn't think of you like that. He's probably going to treat you like a younger sister. He's really protective."

"Good, because I really just like being his friend."

"Yeah," she said, not taking her eyes off of the road.

"Can you drive yet?" Jenna asked.

"Yep. My car's in the shop right now... it wouldn't start up for some reason. So now I'm stuck without transportation."

"That sucks. Next week when you start coming to school here, I can drive you. Okay?"

"That would be great."

There was an easy silence after that. I turned up the radio, and listened to that until we got to the place.

"Pizza... Planet?" I breathed. "Awesome."

"I know, right?" Jenna said. "Now, let's go find the guys."
