Twist In My Story

8. The Kitchen is Being Held Hostage

Still October 7th

"Sorry for the mess," Niall says as we walk into his flat.

I look around, but I don't see a so-called mess anywhere.

"Dude, it's not messy. It's pretty nice," Jesse says.

Since when did he call Niall dude? Hmm.

"I agree," I say.

"I'm apologizing for the kitchen actually," Niall says.

"Oh please," I say walking to the kitchen.

"It can't be that-" My sentence fades as I look at the mess in here.

It's probably the messiest thing I have seen in my life. Plates pile in the sink, containers of food everywhere and more.

"Niall, I'm going to put my stuff up real fast and then I am going to help you clean this up."

"No, it's alright. I got it," he says.

"Nope. I am going to help you." I go get my suitcases and head towards the guest room.

I am a little cautious around Jesse. I heard he's the jealous type. He seems pretty nice right now, but I can't let that fool me. Gosh, I wish Morgan was single. Jesse just doesn't seem like the right guy for her and I love her like crazy. No, Niall you can't. You two are friends. I sigh and lean against a cleaner part of the counter.

"Do you do a lot of cooking?" Jesse asks looking around my kitchen.

"I guess you could say so. Not right this moment though since, you know," I say motioning towards the mess.

Jesse just nods and we stand there in an awkward silence.

Morgan finally comes back and claps her hands together.

"Alright, Niall. You ready to defeat the evil mess holding your kitchen hostage?" Morgan says.

"Ready as I'll ever be," I say as I chuckle a little bit at her made up situation for my kitchen.

"While you guys do that, I have to go to a last minute meeting for my next book," Jesse says looking at his watch.

I look at Morgan and she is slightly glaring at him. She has that look a lot lately...

"Why didn't you tell me about this as soon as you found out about it?" Morgan asks him impatiently.

"I don't know, but I've gotta go. I'll see you later babe."

Jesse comes over and gives Morgan a kiss on the cheek, but she doesn't even move. She still has that glare on her face. I watch Jesse go out the door and I turn to look at Morgan. She has already started cleaning the counters. I join her progress and we organize my pantry. Morgan works, not saying a word to me.

"Why are you still glaring?" I ask.

Morgan changes her facial expression and says, "I don't know. I didn't know I was glaring."

"You seemed upset that he didn't tell you about this meeting."

"I am," she says as she sighs. "He doesn't tell me anything anymore. He probably found out about it a few hours ago and decided to bolt. I don't even know what to think about him anymore."

I clean a little more before I say, "Well, love, you don't sound happy with him. I think he's making you unhappy."

Morgan stays silent. Shoot, I did not have the right to say that. Stupid. I go back to cleaning and we finish the pantry. We move onto the sink now that the counters are free of boxes. Morgan rinses off dishes and hands them to me to put in the dishwasher. Teamwork at it's best! We are slowly saving my kitchen, which is being held hostage, from the evil mess.
