28. Story of the Past

Brittany's POV

 .

 .

When I woke up the next morning, it was to the sound of a bell. When I got to the psych ward yesterday, I was told that there would be an alarm that goes off at nine to wake everyone up. I was giving a list of what time all the bells were, and what I was supposed to do when they went off.

Yesterday, I lied to the boys about where I was going because I didn't want them to judge me.

When I sat up, I saw that there was a suitcase leaning up against the wall by the door.

I stood up, and hobbled over to my suit case and put it on the bed. When I opened it, I saw that it was full of clothes, and my laptop. On top of everything, there was a note.

Hey Britt. I thought that you might want some clothes for the week while you're gone. I'm sorry, but I couldn't find you a phone...but you have your laptop... I'll see you in a week!

-Lyndsey

I went and unpacked everything into the small dresser that was in my room, and I pulled out my laptop and went onto twitter.

I was in shock with how many more followers I had. I was at 245,820 followers. People were tweeting me telling me to get better, and that they hope I was okay.

There was a few mean ones saying that I deserved to get hurt for hanging out with One Direction, and some other ones that were insulting me and death threating me. They hurt me a little, but I just brushed them off. I was starting to get used the the hate by now.

I decided to send out a tweet to let people know I was okay and not dead.

Hey people, just letting you know that I'm okay and I'll be leaving the hospital within a week!!! Xx

Since I was supposed to go and get breakfast by nine thirty, I left my room and followed some teen people to the cafeteria.

I got into line, and took a cinnamon roll, some eggs, and an orange juice. I then realized that I had a problem. I didn't know anyone here.

I looked around the room trying to find some people that looked nice, when I spotted a familiar face. I walked over to the table where she was sitting alone and sat across from her.

"Sil?" I asked.

"Brittany! Oh my god! What are you doing here!" she yelled in shock.

"I could ask you the same thing."

"I... well... I took a hand full of pills..." she muttered.

"What?"

"Yeah... but enough about me, why are you here?"

"Harry and I got into a car accident, and the doctor saw my cuts. Since I had already tried to kill myself, they thought that I was unstable, so they sent me here."

"You and Harry got into a car accident?"

"Yeah. I was in a coma for a week. I woke up yesterday. But I'm alive. I have two broken ribs, and two are cracked. Also, I have a broken arm, and, well, now I have a boot. Thank god I'm not still in my giant leg cast."

"Oh my god. I wish I knew that. My mum took my phone from me before I was sent here, so I haven't really had contact with the outside world."

"That sucks. I think phone got destroyed in the car accident, but my friend dropped my laptop off. I'll let you use it if you want to."

"That would be AWESOME!" Sil exclaimed.

"So," I said changing the subject, "how long have you been here?"

"Eight days. I get to go home tomorrow."

"Really? That sounds fun!"

"Yeah, but then I have to face Tay, Fe, and Angie. I asked them not to visit me while I'm here."

"Why?"

"Because I didn't want to see their judging faces," she replied slowly.

"It's okay. I'm sure that they're not going to judge you. Their probably just going to be super nice to you and help you."

For the rest of breakfast, Sil and I talked. Then I had to go to my counseling appointment, which wasn't that fun. The lady kept pestering me about why I cut myself, and why I tried to kill myself the first time.

Then I had to go to a group session where everyone talked about their problems and what not. When it was my turn to talk, I decided to try and be brave.

"Hi, I'm Brittany," I stated.

"Hi Brittany," he group replied in unison. Sil was sitting right next to me, and gave me a look that said to continue.

"Well, I'm new here. I got here last night. I've been in a coma for the last week, and I cut myself because I miss my baby and I have so much stress in my life."

"What stresses you out?" someone asked.

"To start, I live with five teenage boys who are in the band One Direction, and I get hate on twitter and tumblr and, well, everywhere for being their friend."

"You live with One Direction?" a girl asked me in shock.

"Yeppers," I replied.

"That's awesome," some said.

"Yeah, but it's a lot of work."

We spent the rest of my turn talking about the boys, then the bell went off and we had a 'free hour.'

Sil and I went to the art area and colored horrible drawn pictures the whole time, and before I knew it, it was time for visitors. If you didn't have any visitors, you could have another two 'free hours' and since Sil and I were expecting anyone, we just stayed in the art room.

A few minutes later, a worker came into the room and said, "Brittany, you have a visitor. Can you follow me to the visitors area?"

I stood up and slowly followed him there, but I had no idea who would be visiting me.

When I walked into the room, I saw a table with a guy sitting at it. He was wearing sunglasses, a beanie, a striped shirt, suspenders, and had what looked like a fake mustache on his face. I walked over to him and sat down across from him.

"Lou, what are you doing here?" I asked him.

"Well, I knew that you were here, so I came to visit you," he replied with a smile on his face.

"How did you know that I was here?"

"Dr. Marshall told me." At that, my eyes widened.

"Did he tell anyone else?" I asked quickly. When Louis shook his head, I let out a sigh of relief.

"I told him not to tell anyone else. I knew that you didn't want any of the other boys to know that you were here."

"Thanks."

"So, are you having fun?"

"Actually, I am. My friend Sil is here, so it's not so bad. But she's leaving tomorrow."

"Well, I'll be visiting you every day, so you won't always be alone."

"You're awesome," I told Louis with a smile.

"You can be pretty awesome too," he replied back.

"Bye Sil," I told Sil as I gave her a hug. "Have fun on the outside world."

"I'll try. But honestly, being locked in here has been kind of good for me. Everything is all so simple."

"I know," I said to her with a smile on my face.

"Well, I have to go. Bye," she said as she opened the large doors that lock me off from everyone else.

"Bye," I replied as it shut.

I then turned around, and went to see Louis who was waiting for me in the visiting area.

The next day was very boring. The only upside was that I was a Saturday, which meant that visiting hours were four to eight instead of four to six. As I walked towards the visiting area, a man dressed as a surgeon walked over and grabbed my arm.

I was very confused to what was going on, so I whispered, "Please tell me your name is Louis."

He didn't answer. He just kept pulling me to the doors. The guard that was standing by them looked very confused.

"I'm Dr. Tommo, and this is Brittany Tom. She needs emergency surgery or her," then he muttered something that sounded very science, "will EXPLODE!"

The guard said, "Is this an escape attempt?"

Louis pulled down the mask thing that was covering his mouth. "I'll have her back by eight," he said with a cheeky smile.

"Ummmmmm," the guard said thinking.

Louis then pulled out his wallet. "I'll give you three hundred pounds."

"No later than eight," the guard said and took the money. Then he unlocked the door, and we walked out.

We kept walking until we got into the limo waiting outside. "A limo, really?" I asked.

"Yes, really. Now don't complain or I'll kick you out of the car."

"Where are we going?" I asked as the car started to move.

"California," he said and looked away. I hit him in the stomach. "Okay, okay. We're just going to the park downtown."

"Seems fun," I replied with a smile on my face.

"Oh, it's going to be a blast."

When we got to the park, people looked at us weird as we got out of the limo. I don't know if it was the limo that made them look, or the man dressed as a surgeon.

We went to the little ice cream place around the corner, and then to a tree behind the park.

Louis sat down in the shade of the tree licking his ice cream, but I just stood there. "Okay, now how do I sit down..." I muttered to myself. After about two minutes, I was sitting by Louis.

"So," he said causality, "how life?"

"Well, since I didn't die in the car accident I was recently in, I'd say pretty good."

"Well that seems swell," Louis said with a ice cream covered smile.

"Oh my god. Please tell me you did not just use the word 'swell.'" I said to him with a disappointed look on my face.

"I did, and I'm not taking it back."

"Whatever," I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes.

"Doesn't it say somewhere that whenever a girl says 'whatever' it really means something along the lines of, 'I fall off a bridge and get raped by a shark'?"

I was speechless. All I was able to do was stare at Louis in shock. I kept opening my mouth and then closing it. I was trying to figure out was to say, but nothing came out.

I pulled out my phone and sent out a quick tweet.

RED ALERT!!! Boys are learning our secret language. Someone inform the High Priestess. Beware, boys might be able to understand you now.Xx

"So, on a completely random note, your friend, Meghan, I think you might know her, 'cause, well, she's like one of your best friends and all. Well, Meghan told me this really interesting story the other day. And I'm pretty sure that she lying, but I just wanted to make sure that it was true," Louis rambled out in one breath.

"What is it?"

"Well, it's kind of funny actually, but she said that you and Jake had a kid together." The smile that was on my face died. I didn't know what to say.

"But here's the thing, I'm not sure if that is true or not. I feel like you would have told me if you had a child with the guy who is frequently at our house."

I felt tears come to my eyes. I put my ice cream between my legs and covered my face with my hands. Then, I started to cry. Louis put his arms around me, and I cried harder.

"Shhhhhhh, shhhhhhhh," he hushed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't've said that. It was out of line. Can you just forget I said anything?"

I shook my head. "It-it's not that. It's just th-that there's something I need to tell you. Something that only one other person knows."

"What?" Lou asked in a soft voice.

I wiped my eyes and moved my hands away from my face. "I-I don't know who Brett's dad was."

"What?" Louis asked. His voice was full of confusion.

"Okay, well, when I was fifteen, I went to this Halloween party. It was my first real party, and everyone there was drunk. My friends and I started to drink, and they started to wander away. Since I was a little drunk and it was my first time drinking, and I couldn't really walk that well. I went and sat in a chair."

Wiped away my tears and continued. "A little while later, this really attractive vampire came over to my and complimented my cute panda bear costume. We went upstairs and, well, you know where this is going."

Lou looked really confused, and then he understood. "Why did you go upstairs with him?"

"Ummmm, well, you guys know how you can smile at a girl, and their just like 'I want you inside me you attractive man.'" I used really wild hand motions to get my point across. "Well, he had that kind of smile. It was absolutely perfect. I could tell that he was a year or so older than me, but I felt kind of like it was love at first sight. I don't know if he felt that way, but I'm pretty sure he just wanted in my pants."

"Wow!"

"Don't worry, it gets worse," I informed Louis and he just gave me a seriously look. "When I woke up, he was in the bed beside me. His makeup was still on, and I just stared at him for a little bit. Then I went, got my clothes and put them on, and I went to my friends car. They were in the back seat sleeping, so I illegally drove us all home."

"Why didn't you, like, leave your name or number on the bed for the guy?" Lou asked.

"Well, first of all, I doubt that he would have call. Secondly, do you really think that I thought, 'Oh, I should probably leave my number to some guy that I lost my virginity to. I might get pregnant. Blah blah blah.' Like seriously?"

"Yeeaaaahhhh. True."

"So, what have you and the boys been up to lately?" I asked, changing the subject.

"No much. Mostly we've been-," Louis was cut off.

A swarm of paparazzi surrounded the tree. They were taking pictures and asking questions and shoving microphones into Lou and I's faces. To be honest, I was scared. As long as I've lived with the boys, I have never been surrounded by this much paparazzi.

I looked to Louis for help, and he scooted closer to me and put his hands over my ears.

"SHUT! THE FUCK! UP! OR I WILL CALL NINE NINE NINE AND SUE ALLLLLLL OF YOU ARSES FOR HARRASSMENT!!!!" That made everybody shut up and take a few steps back. "NOW SIT!" Louis demanded, and everybody sat.

"Thank you. Now where was I? Oh yes. Mostly sitting at home waiting for you to get back. And since you've been with us so long, Liam's been losing his 'Daddy Directioner' touch. Which means that when you get home, you're going to be doing a lot of cleaning."

It felt weird for Louis and me to be taking in front of a bunch of adult. "Is that a sexist comment?" I asked.

"Maybe," he replied and gave his eyebrows a little wiggle. One of the paparazzi that was sitting down raised her hand. "Yes peasant?" Louis said and called on her.

"Um, I have two questions and a comment. First, are you really like this? Or are you just being the stereotypical Louis everyone thinks you are?"

Louis looked at me to answer.

"Well, he's only like this if he's drunk."

"But I'm not drunk right now!" Louis demanded.

"Other question?" I asked.

"Why is Louis dressed in surgeon attire?"

"I broke her out of a hospital," he replied simply.

"And your comment?"

"You shouldn't have to clean the house. They should. They're not babies, they can pick up after themselves."

"You, my fellow female, are amazing," I said and everyone started clapping.

After about 2.5 hours, we had nicely answered all of their questions. Lou and I then walked over to a nearby restaurant and had an early dinner.

After that, we got back into the limo, and the driver just went and drove around. Louis and I sat in the back and talked for an hour. Then he told me that I had a surprise for when I got home, but when I asked him what it was he said, 'it's a fucking surprise. I can't tell you.'

When it came to be seven fifty, the driver dropped Lou and I off at the hospital. When we got to the psych ward doors, he gave me a big hug, and we said goodbye.

I wasn't sure what i would be doing until visiting hours tomorrow since Sil was now gone, but since I had something to look forward too, I knew everything was going to be okay.
