62. Cinco de Mayo

It was around seven at night when I woke up from my nap and as I stood up, I felt my feet and legs suddenly become wet.

“Shit,” I muttered as I looked down. “This cannot be happening. Not today,” I said to myself. “God dammit, they’re not going to believe me.”

I let out a groan, and instead of walking down stairs and telling Louis that my water had just broke, I went and took a shower since I figured that I wouldn’t be able to take one once we got to the hospital.

Thirty minutes later, I was packing up all the things that I needed for the hospital, and then it happened.

“Owwwww,” I yelled, I tried to be quiet, but I didn’t turn out that way.

After a few moments, there was a knock on the door and Louis walked in to see me laying on our bed, holding my stomach in pain. “Are you okay!” he yelled and ran to my side.

“Oh I’m dandy,” I replied sarcastically.

“What’s wrong?”

“I’m having contractions,” I informed him and I squeezed my eyes shut and opened them a few moments later when the pain was over.

Contractions?” Louis asked in shock.

“Yep,” I said as I got off the bed and continued to pack the bag.

Louis just stood where he was with wide eyes for a minute or so and then he walked over to me.

“If this is a prank, I will be seriously pissed off,” he said and I just chuckled.

“It’s not, I promise.”

“So, you’re seriously going into labor?” he asked and he looked kind of scared.

“Yep, now be ready to become a daddy!” I told him as I zipped up my bag and started to carry it to the bedroom door.

Louis grabbed the bag from me and ran in front of me and down the stairs to where the rest of the boys were.

“Brittany’s going into labor!” Louis screamed and the boys looked at him in shock. “This is not a prank! Everyone into the car!” he yelled and then ran out the door and into the car.

I slowly walked into the room where the boys were sitting in shock. “Well, are you coming?” I asked and then they all jumped up and ran out in front of my and into the car.

They left the passenger seat opened for me and I crawled in.

Twenty minutes later, the seven of us were at the hospital and I was in the bed.

“I am freaking out,” Louis announced.

“You’re freaking out? I’m the one who has to shove an eight pound thing out of my body,” I stated.

“I’m still hoping that this is a joke.”

“It’s no-,” I started but then there was a serious stabbing pain in my stomach as I started having another contraction. “Pain, pain, pain, pain, pain, pain, pain,” I kept repeating until it was over. “No, it’s not a joke. That would be a cruel joke to play. I’m just hoping that I don’t have her until tomorrow so her birthday isn’t on Cinco de Mayo. I don’t want my kids’ birthday to be shared with a Mexican holiday.”

“Do they have any idea when you’re going to have her?” Louis asked right as the doctor walked in.

“Well, most women don’t have their babies until about eleven hours after they’re water’s broke, so there’s a very good chance that your little girl won’t be born until tomorrow.”

Fifteen hours later

“Who’s going to be in the room when she’s born?” Louis asked me once the doctor said that I was at 8cm.

“Well, the doctor said I could have four people with me, so, you, Mum and the god parents.”

“We never decided god parents, did we?”

“We also never decided on a name, but I vote we decide once she’s born.”

“So, god parents,” Louis said and then started stroking his chin.

“Meghan’s the god mother, and I vote the god father is either Harry or Zayn.”

“Why not Liam or Niall?”

“Because Liam is probably going to end up being married to the god mother, and Niall is going to be her uncle.”

“Why don’t you go and tell him the good news,” I said and Louis ran out of the room like a mad man and I chuckled.

“You really love him, don’t you?” Mum asked as she walked into the room.

“Of course I do, he’s perfect.”

“Why are you going to say yes?”

“When he asks me after the baby is born.”

“So, you were planning on saying yes this whole time?”

“Why wouldn’t I? He is literally the nicest and funniest and cutest man I’ve ever seen. Well, minus David Tennant and Matt Smith, but that’s never going to happen,” I said and Mum and I both laughed.

“So, you chose Meghan and Harry?”

“Yeah, I think that they’ll be a good fit for my baby.”

“Why did you choose Meghan again?”

“Well, she’s Meghan. I might be close to other girls and consider them to be my best friends, but Meghan is always going to be at the top of my list.”

“I love you too,” I heard Meghan say as she walked into the room and she gave me a hug.

An hour later, it was just the doctor, a few nurses, Mum, Louis, Meghan, Harry and myself in the room.

“Okay, you can start pushing,” the doctor said and my eyes widened and I shook my head.

“No, I’d rather not. I vote I just get a C-section.”

“Brittany,” Louis said and squeezed my hand and gave me a soft kiss, “You can do this.”

“Okay,” I said as I nodded, and then I started to push.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Harry whisper something into Louis’s ear and Louis eyes went wide and he punched Harry in the face and Harry fell to the ground.

No one really paid him any attention, and after minute or two, he stood back up and went to the other side of my bed to stand by Mum and Meghan.

After a little while, the pain was over, but I didn’t hear the sound that I’ve been waiting to hear.

“I’m so sorry,” one of the nurses said and she looked at me with tear filled eyes.

“W-what?” I stuttered.

“Brittany,” Louis said and looked at me. I understood everything from the look on his face. He looked broken. The baby hadn’t made it.

“Louis,” I said and then I started to cry.

“We’ll just get her cleaned up,” a nurse said and everyone walked out of the room. My mum stopped at the door and turned and started to say something, but she just closed her mouth and walked out leaving Louis and I alone.

“Brittany,” Louis said again with tears streaming down his face. I scooted over in my bed and Louis crawled in and I wrapped my arms around him.

We just sat there for a few minutes, hugging each other and crying, until we heard a knock on the door and a nurse walked in holding a bundle of pink blankets.

“Would you like to hold her?” the nurse asked and I nodded.

She walked over to me and handed my still born baby to me and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

I stared at her face.

It was so cute.

I went and ran and my hand down her cheek and I flinched when I touched her cold skin.

Louis wrapped his arms around my waist and stared at our nameless baby girl and he had tears streaming down his face.
