Gotta Be You

What happens after Jules and Harry get engaged? And what happens when Jules introduces her best friend, Carmen, to Niall? Will he break up with Demi for her or will they keep pretending that they weren't attracted to each other since the moment they met?

*Author Note:* Hey guys! So, this is the sequel to Operation Haylor, which you can find on my profile if you haven't read it. Unfortunately, Josh, the awesome guy who co-wrote Operation Haylor with me, isn't going to be writing any of Gotta Be You (unless he wants to do a bonus chapter or something, which has been discussed, so look out for it possibly).

22. Chapter 22

As the tour dates kept ticking by, the tour bus started feeling more like home, we figured out how to better entertain ourselves, and overall we’d just been having an amazing time. I sometimes felt like Wendy from Peter Pan, surrounded by the lost boys and I guess you’d call Carmen Tiger Lilly. I occasionally had the urge to stretch out my arms and see if I could fly. I felt that blissful. The only difference was my Peter Pan was so much better than the Peter Pan in books. He was much more caring, and while he attained some of his boyishness, he was a bit more mature. Plus he gave me actual kisses instead of thimbles, which I enjoyed much more.

Niall was still sometimes irrationally jealous of Liam, though. But he wouldn’t do anything to have a relationship with Carmen. He’d just get mad at Liam and Carmen, then seem to get over it in a few minutes, pretending nothing happened.

One particular night on tour, we had decided to watch Grease. Carmen and I decided to make popcorn and Harry and Liam decided to follow us.

Now, admittedly, Liam had seemed to be a little friendlier with Carmen since she’d comforted him, so I could see why Niall would get jealous.

Liam, Harry, Carmen, and I were chatting as she grabbed a pot and I grabbed the popcorn and butter from the fridge. Carmen set the pot on the stove, I threw in the popcorn and butter, and the two of us leaned against the counter, waiting for that popping that gave the delicious snack its name.

When the popping began, Carmen decided to be the one to constantly shake the pot back and forth to keep it from burning, so I decided to cuddle up to Harry who wrapped his arms around me, too.

“Think it’s done?” Carmen asked when the popping had seemed to stop.

“Let’s check,” Liam said, getting close to Carmen and reaching an arm around her to pull the lid off the pot just as Niall walked in.

As Liam lifted the lid, one last kernel decided to pop, throwing popcorn into Carmen’s face. “Ah!” she screamed. Liam grabbed her waist as she exclaimed, “Liam!” swatting at his chest.

Liam laughed. “Calm down. It’s alright.”

“Liam,” Harry said. He pointed his chin at Niall when Liam had turned around.

“Can I talk to you Carmen?” Niall asked angrily, a dark look in his eyes, stomping over to her and grabbing her hand. I noticed he held onto it gently, though he was externally fuming.

“I’ll talk to you later,” Niall told Liam, who backed away from Carmen, letting her go with Niall.

**Carmen's Point of View**

“What’s up Niall?” I asked casually after he’d led me to his room and shut the door. I could very well guess what was up, but this jealousy thing was honestly kind of annoying me.

“Don’t pretend you don’t know,” he told me angrily.

“Know what?” I asked calmly, letting myself fall onto his bed.

“Carmen,” he said through gritted teeth.

“Why don’t you tell me what’s bothering you?” I questioned him innocently.

“Because you know!” he shouted. “I hate that you’ve been flirting with Liam,” he spat.

“Oh, I haven’t been flirting with Liam,” I sneered back, finally showing him I was angry, too.

“Well, you’ve certainly been letting him flirt with you,” he said.

“What do you care, Niall?” I asked, putting my arms behind me on his bed to support myself.

“I don’t like you flirting with him,” he repeated.

“So what are you going to do about it?” I asked defiantly, crossing one leg over the area. Annoyance seemed to really work for me.
