Gotta Be You

What happens after Jules and Harry get engaged? And what happens when Jules introduces her best friend, Carmen, to Niall? Will he break up with Demi for her or will they keep pretending that they weren't attracted to each other since the moment they met?

*Author Note:* Hey guys! So, this is the sequel to Operation Haylor, which you can find on my profile if you haven't read it. Unfortunately, Josh, the awesome guy who co-wrote Operation Haylor with me, isn't going to be writing any of Gotta Be You (unless he wants to do a bonus chapter or something, which has been discussed, so look out for it possibly).

2. Chapter 2

“Come on,” I told Carmen, pulling my computer chair into my bathroom. I dropped it in front of the sink and she sat down.

“Does Demi have to come tonight?” Carmen asked as I read the hair dye box.

I applied some dye to her hair. “Of course she does,” I told her.

I started to put more dye in her hair as she asked, “Why?”

I drew the applicator away from her head and put my hand on my hip. “I like Demi!” I told her. “And I can't invite the other boys' girlfriends and not invite her. Plus I already invited her! She cleared her busy schedule and everything. I can't call her and say 'actually, I changed my mind on account of my best friend doesn't like you because she wants your boyfriend'.”

“Sure you can!” she said.

“No, I can't,” I told her forcefully. “We've gone over this!”

“Yeah, yeah. But I don't like Demi,” she said.

“You don't like Demi because she's dating Niall,” I stated. “You haven't even given her a chance as a person,” I said.

“Her dating Niall is reason enough for me to not like her,” she mumbled, crossing her arms over her chest and sliding down a little in her chair.

“Sit up,” I told her. She straightened out and I said, “Please be nice to Demi. Please? I'm getting married tomorrow,” I told her. We were arguing on a serious matter, but I couldn't help but get excited.

Harry and I had decided to get married quickly. We had been together for almost two years now, anyway. We knew we wanted to be together. We were so in love. We figured there was no point in waiting forever to tell everyone else that. We agreed we should get married July 6, almost five months after Harry proposed, and the anniversary of the day we met.

I decided I didn't want one of those big bachelorette parties where you go out and get drunk and hire strippers and all that. Instead, I was staying home with the girls tonight.

“Fine. But only for you,” she said.

Carmen had stayed with me in California for a week before flying back to Pennsylvania. She had just turned eighteen a little while ago and decided that, since she was an aspiring musician and because she missed me, that she would move to California, too. Though she never said anything-and never would because she wasn't like that-I knew she was also hoping to get closer to Niall. So last month she got an apartment nearby me.

“Are you excited?” she asked.

I smiled as I slathered more dye into her hair. “So excited. You wouldn't believe.”

“You're hair looks great!” I told her a half an hour later.

“I know,” she said to her reflection, running her fingers through her now dry, straightened, and newly dyed red hair.

I heard some fumbling noises coming from my bedroom. “Must be the girls,” I told Carmen excitedly. I slipped my arm through hers and opened the bathroom door.
