Gotta Be You

What happens after Jules and Harry get engaged? And what happens when Jules introduces her best friend, Carmen, to Niall? Will he break up with Demi for her or will they keep pretending that they weren't attracted to each other since the moment they met?

*Author Note:* Hey guys! So, this is the sequel to Operation Haylor, which you can find on my profile if you haven't read it. Unfortunately, Josh, the awesome guy who co-wrote Operation Haylor with me, isn't going to be writing any of Gotta Be You (unless he wants to do a bonus chapter or something, which has been discussed, so look out for it possibly).

19. Chapter 19

Carmen's Point of View
I was so tired after the show that, after I briefly talked to Harry and Jules, I went straight back to my hotel. Between the concert-which is more tiring than it looks, trust me-and being disappointed I didn't get to talk to Niall, I don't think I'd ever been more tired. The bed and my pajamas were such a sweet relief. Especially the bed.
I was just about to reach over and turn off the light on my nightstand when there was a knock on the door.
I couldn't imagine why a maid would come by now. Wasn't there a certain point at night when they had to stop knocking on people's doors? I was so tired I debated staying in bed and letting them figure out I wasn't going to answer the door by themselves, but I decided to get up and shuffle to the door anyway.
The sight of the person behind the door was enough to wake me up, though. "Niall. What are you doing here?"
"Hey Carmen. Can I come in?" he asked.
"Sure," I answered, stepping away from the door to let him in, surprised that he was there. I wondered if I'd already fallen asleep and this was just a dream.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as I closed the door, turning around to find him sitting down at the end of my bed.
"I came t' see you obviously," Niall said as I made my way toward him.
"Yeah, but, I mean, what's so important that it couldn't wait until morning? Not that I don't want you here, because I do, but-"
"Come here," Niall interrupted, gently pulling on my hand. "Sit down. You look tired," he continued as I sat next to him. "You must be, you're in your pajamas. Sorry about that. You weren't in bed yet were ya?"
"Not-not really," I stammered. I didn't want to make him feel bad because I kind of was, but I wasn't going to lie to him either. "I don't mind anyway. What's up?"
"Zayn sent me a text and said that you were looking for me after the show," he told me, "and then Jules and Harry called and they said that you wanted to talk to me, too." He turned to look me meaningfully in the eyes as he very seriously and carefully said, "I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I didn't want to be missing something important."
At that moment, I forget everything I wanted to say to Niall, everything that we'd been through in the last couple of months, every reason why we weren't together. "I'm-I'm okay," I answered him.
"Good," he said. We stared into each others eyes for a moment before he laid back, stretching himself across my bed. "I'm so tired," he told me.
"Me too," I said, laying next to him, making sure I was a proper distance away.
"What did you think of the show?" he asked as we stared up at the ceiling.
"It was the most amazing thing I've ever experienced," I answered him.
"Ya did great."
"You were good too."
"And what are you thinking of London?"
"I love it here," I said.
"I can't wait to go back to Ireland. Maybe we can sneak out and I'll show you around some," he said.
"I'd like that," I told him.
"I'm very glad you're coming on tour with us," he said.
"Me too, Niall." He grabbed my hand and held it between us on the bed. He kept it as we talked. And he was still holding it when we fell asleep.
It was the best I'd ever slept. When I woke up, Niall was gone, making me wonder if maybe I did actually dream that he had come over.
