Gotta Be You

What happens after Jules and Harry get engaged? And what happens when Jules introduces her best friend, Carmen, to Niall? Will he break up with Demi for her or will they keep pretending that they weren't attracted to each other since the moment they met?

*Author Note:* Hey guys! So, this is the sequel to Operation Haylor, which you can find on my profile if you haven't read it. Unfortunately, Josh, the awesome guy who co-wrote Operation Haylor with me, isn't going to be writing any of Gotta Be You (unless he wants to do a bonus chapter or something, which has been discussed, so look out for it possibly).

17. Chapter 17

*Hey guys! Sorry it's been so long! It's kinda chaotic with all the holidays and stuff! Thanks for your patience, enjoy, and Merry Christmas! :)*

Carmen's Point of View
"I just don't understand how he's managed to avoid me for two whole weeks. Or why he'd want to," I complained into the hotel's phone, laying down on the bed. I mentally sighed in relief. Bed felt so nice right now. I could really use some sleep. Also, if Simon wasn't paying my hotel bill, I'd owe a fortune in long-distance calls alone. I couldn't even fathom what the bill would end up being. "He kissed me, Jules."
"I know. I've heard it about a hundred times," Jules told me lightly. I knew she didn't care how many times I recounted the story to her. In fact, she enjoyed hearing the story. That's what best friends are for.
"I know. It was just the most magical thing, Jules. I just melted and he knew that so held me in his arms..." I trailed off, picturing it for about the thousandth time.
He'd kissed me, then said goodbye and darted back into the conference room.
A mere hour later Simon called me and asked me to come back the next day and discuss some technical stuff. The boys loved me. Simon loved me. I was going to be the opening act for One Direction! It had pretty much been prep for the up coming concert and tour 24/7 since then.
Why didn't Niall call me? I knew he had to feel the same way about me that I felt about him. Especially after that kiss. "I can't wait until you get here. I'm so lonely when I get free time, which is basically never, but still. I mean, the only people I know in London are the members of One Direction. I can't make the first move with Niall and I can't hang on to the other boys." That would be pathetic, for one thing. I'm sure they were trying to visit other people, like their family and their girlfriends, so it would be weird for me to tag along. And I'm sure they were also trying to get as much rest as possible.
"Why can't you make a move on Niall?" Jules asked. "Actually, wasn't him kissing you the first move?"
"Yeah, but what if he changed his mind? Wouldn't he have called by now if he wasn't totally regretting kissing me?" I asked. I groaned at the thought, running a hand down my face. It couldn't have been that bad of a kiss, right?
"Maybe he's afraid that you didn't like the kiss. Or maybe he knows you're busy. I mean, I'm sure he's busy," Jules consoled me.
"He would know I loved the kiss if he would just talk to me," I mumbled. "It's not that hard to pick up the phone and call someone."
"I'm sorry Carmen. I don't know what else to tell you."
"I wish you were here right now," I told her.
"I know," Jules said. "But we'll be there tomorrow."
"I still want you here now," I stated. "But I should go now, Jules. It's like, midnight here."
"Okay, goodnight."
Jules' Point of View
I pulled my hand from off the top of Harry's, who simultaneously pulled his hand off my knee. "Woo! Go Carmen!" I yelled, grinning under my cupped hands.
Harry clapped, then stuck his fingers in his mouth and whistled. "Ow. Loud," I teased, covering my ears and smiling at him. He grinned and pulled me close.
We were sitting in the stadium chairs of the arena the boys-and Carmen-would be playing that night. They were supposed to practice before the show. Harry and I had just listened to Carmen's rehearsal.
"Was it okay?" Carmen called to us from the stage.
"It was great!" Harry shouted back. "You're a great performer. I think you should go on tour with us," Harry attempted to joke, then grinned at me. I grinned back, laughing a little, too. Maybe it was newlywed bliss, but I hoped we'd feel like this forever.
"You were awesome Carmen," I assured her.
"Thanks guys," Carmen replied, smiling at us.
Carmen grabbed her guitar and the three of us headed backstage, where we ran into Niall.
Niall's Point of View
"Harry! Hello Jules," I said excitedly, wrapping her in a hug. "Hello, Carmen," I said, feeling slightly intimidated by this girl. I wished I hadn't hugged Jules the second after I did it. I didn't know whether or not Carmen would want me to hug her, so I shoved my hands in my pockets.
"Hello, Niall," she responded cordially. Gosh, she looked beautiful today. Even just in jeans and not all done up for the show yet. I couldn't believe it'd been three weeks since I'd seen her.
"Are ya ready for the show then?" I asked her.
"I hope so," she answered, still unemotional.
"I'm sure you'll be great," I told her, trying to restrain myself from grabbing her and kissing her again. That kiss had been perfect. I shoulda called her. Right after the meeting, I shoulda called her. Maybe she'd be letting me hold her now then. I probably mucked things up now. She probably won't even talk to me.
"Well, Niall," Harry said, placing a hand on my shoulder, "we better go and get the other boys and rehearse ourselves."
"Are you guys coming?" I asked both Carmen and Jules hopefully. More Carmen than Jules, but...
Carmen's Point of View
Oh, so now he doesn't want me to watch them rehearse? Obviously I can tell that's why he asked. Well, guess what, I have to be there for the show. And for the tour. Oh gosh, he wouldn't have me kicked off the tour, would he? Would he go that far? Does he really not like me that much? Is he even allow-
"I-" Jules cut off my mental ranting, reaching a hand out to Harry.
"Actually," I interrupted, batting down the arm Jules had extended and snaking my own through it. "Jules, will you come with me?"
"Uh, sure," Jules responded, confused.
"We'll be back," I assured her and Harry. Who cared if Niall knew or not? Me, a little voice in my head whispered. I care.
No, you don't, the rational part of me responded, batting away anymore thinking all together.
I began to drag Jules away, but stopped when she turned back to look at Harry over her shoulder. I watched her give him doe eyes and wiggle her fingers goodbye. He kissed the tips of the fingers on one of his hands. "Bye baby," he said, waving the hand he'd kissed.
"Oh, you two will see each other in a minute," I complained, rolling my eyes and grabbing Jules' arm again. I wanted to talk to Jules. Now.
