4. Chapter 4

~Jake POV~

How she could have a date?  And with Jared?!  This didn't seem right.  Darcy must have noticed that I spaced out,

"Hello?!"  She snapped in my face.

"I'm sorry, what?"  I snapped out of my thoughts.

"I have a date with Jared!"  The biggest smile appeared on her face as she jumped up and down.

"Oh, yeah.  Congratulations,"  I put on a fake smile.  Darcy could see right through me though.

"Okay, what's wrong?"  She walked in front of me and stopped.  She crossed her arms over her chest and sighed.

"Nothing.  It's just that, I don't think he's a good guy.  That's all."  I was the one to sigh next.

"Jake.  He's not a bad guy.  He's really nice.  I promise, he won't hurt me."  She un-crossed her arms and relaxed them to her sides.

"Promise he won't replace me as your best friend?"  At least I could keep her as my best friend.

"How could I?  No one could ever replace you, Jake."  She laughed.  God, her laugh was perfect.  She was perfect.

~Darcy POV~

It's Thursday; the night of my date with Jared.  I couldn't keep my excitement in any longer.  Every time I would talk about it, Jake would get uncomfortable.  He's been acting weird ever since Saturday night.

I got ready for my date.  I was wearing my green circle skirt(that matched my eyes), a light crème colored button up shirt with puffy sleeves(like the ones from the 60's), and my brown Oxfords.  I curled my hair with my curling wand, put on some light make up, eyeliner, mascara, and then sprayed myself with my favorite perfume; Country Chic.

I heard a knock at my door and I rushed downstairs to see who it was.  What?  I opened my door to see Marie on my porch.

"Marie, what are you doing here?"  I asked looking over her shoulder to see if Jared was here.

"Just wanted to wish you good luck on your date.  And to see if you had any left over pie from last night."

"Yeah.  There's some in the fridge."  I said pointing to the kitchen; disappointed that Jared didn't show up.

~One hour later~

I was in tears.  I actually thought he as a good guy.  But no.  He had to go and stood me up.  How could he?!  I heard a knock on my door and I picked myself up from a ball the floor; makeup running on my face.  I opened the door and Jake was there.

"Have you been crying?"  He asked; sincerity in his voice and kindness in his eyes.

"No."  I looked away and wiped away my tears.

"Yes you have.  What happened?"  He came in the door and shut it.  He walked over to my couch and sat us both down.

"He... he... he stood me up.  I thought he was a good guy.  You were right Jake."  I dropped my head into my hands.  He reached over and took me in his arms for a hug.

"Shhh.  It's okay."  He whispered while rubbing my back.  We stayed like that for a couple minutes; he smelled really good.

"I have an idea."  He said pulling away so he look at me.

"What is it?"  I asked looking at him; sniffling.

"Well, since you're all dressed up, why don't we go to the movies.  To cheer you up.  I mean, you were already going out, so why not?"

"That would be nice, Jake."  I nodded.

"Good.  Go clean up and we'll leave."  He gave me his reassuring smile.  We pulled out of the hug, cleaned up my face, and went back into the living room.  But Jake wasn't there.  Had he left?  Was he standing me up too?!  I heard a clanging in the kitchen.  I walked in and found Jake head first in the fridge.  He backed out of the fridge with a pan in his hands and a fork.

"Your mom makes the best pie!"  He announced with his mouth full of my mom's cherry pie.  I just laughed as he kept eating.  He sat the pan down and came towards me.

"You ready to go?"

"Then let's go!"  He played.

~After the movie~

Jake took me back home and he came inside.

"Thank you so much, Jake."

"For what?"

"For making me feel better after what Jared did.  I really appreciate it."

"Well, you are very welcome,"  He stepped back a few inches and bowed; I curtsied and we both laughed.

"Seriously though, thank you."  I went over to hug him and he hugged me back with no hesitation.

"You're welcome, Love."  He kissed the top of my head and kept his arms around me.  And that's all we did for the next few minutes.  I loved his hugs.
