40. Chapter 39

I didn’t know what to do.

It’s been one terrible day since the call and I have never so badly wanted to scream my lungs out. I haven’t eaten at all today and I was kind of used to my stomach rumbling every now and then. I tried the screaming act but unfortunately, no matter how much effort I put into screaming no one will ever hear me. I gave up trying to find an escape plan because my hands haven’t been unbounded ever since. I know you’re asking, how did you pee? Well I never felt the urge to pee since I haven’t drunk water for the past 10 hours. I licked my dry lips and fought back my tears. And that’s when my thoughts drifted to Chris. Is he too terrified to die that he already left me to starve to my death? It has been one day and there has been no sign of him. I don’t know if I should be angry because he left me, sad because maybe he’s worrying about me or completely terrified at the fact that maybe they killed him already. I writhed in the chair, feeling the hot sweat run down my neck. I closed my eyes and tried to find relief but unfortunately my rumbling stomach and aching throat didn’t let me. I have never felt so dead but alive ever in my entire life. My head started spinning and all I wanted to do was give up. I felt my body weaken and my vision started to blur as each second passed by. I fought hard to keep my eyes open, I blinked back the tears and once I was about to fall into complete unconsciousness, the door slammed open and then Chris walked inside.

“Chris…what are you-“

“Shhh,” he cooed, running towards me and kissing me briefly before hiding behind the chair.

I heard him pull out a knife and he started to cut the rope. Relief washed over me as I realized that it was going to be all over. I felt the tears stream down my face as the ropes were cut and my hands were free. I brought my hands up to my face and started to rub my cheeks. Chris went on my ankles and he cut the ropes as well and when I was finally unbounded. His hand went to my arm and he helped me up. I stood up straight but then a second later, my legs started to feel wobbly then I fell on his side. He gasped then grabbed me before I fell. He held me right beside him with one arm draped over me.

“You came,” I whispered, feeling my head start to spin again.

“Shhh, don’t talk,” he whispered low and I was amazed I actually got to hear it. He walked out the room and I stammered by his side, trying hard to find my balance. He looked left and right before going down the left hall then taking a sharp left. He was walking fast and it was extremely hard for me to catch up. Our footsteps were silent but I can feel my head throbbing and any second I would collapse.

“Chris, walk slowly,” I said with my dry throat.

I gripped his arm hard and pulled him, forcing him to walk a bit slow. He turned his head towards me and gave me a pained look. He sighed then nodded. We started walking slowly together down the stairs and as we reached the ground floor a man in a leather jacket emerged from what I believe was the kitchen. Then it all happened so fast.

The man, once he saw us, his eyes widened and before he could even reach for his gun which is on his waist, Chris moved faster. He pushed me slightly to the side, making me fall on the handles of the stairs but I managed to grip on the handle hard and not falling on my butt. Chris pulled out a gun from his leather jacket, aimed it at the man then fired. I screamed a muffled scream when I saw the man drop dead on the floor. My eyes widened in fear and I scooted away from both Chris and the man. He just killed someone. I started breathing heavily and watched as the blood trickled down the man’s neck. Panic started to rise in my system and once I felt a warm hand on my shoulder I let out a scream but it was muffled immediately but the hands of Chris. His face was inches from mine and he was looking deeply into my eyes. I started into his dark eyes and for some reason it calmed me. Words didn’t need to be spoken for him to communicate with me. I took a deep breath and shook the thought of the dead man away.

“Shhh, it’s alright, my angel” he said then kissed me.

I kissed him back but it was over in a few seconds because Chris stood up, walked towards the man and kicked his body inside the small room under the stairs. I shook the image away and managed to get up. Chris smiled at me then grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the kitchen. He opened the door, peeking inside at first then we bolted down the kitchen towards what seems to be the back door. He opened the door and pushed me out. I walked out, smelling the fresh air and finally I was free. I let out a deep breath and I was run until I saw Ryan standing feet away from me holding up a gun…pointed at me.

My eyes widened in fear and I stepped backwards then my body collided with something hard. Chris. I slowly turned my head to face me and his gun was pointed directly at Ryan but the thing is, Ryan’s gun is pointed at me not to Chris. Chris peeked down at me and whispered, “Don’t face me”. I nodded then faced back at Ryan who had a grimace on his face.

“Make one move Chris and your angel here is dead” Ryan said smugly.

A chill ran down my spine and I stared into the cold eyes of Ryan. I felt Chris hand on my waist and I felt secure…safe.

“What are the odds!” Ryan shouted with excitement as the gun dangled in his hand, his finger tightly pressed on the trigger.

One small move and I’m done for.

“Leave us be, Ryan” Chris snapped from behind me.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Ryan asked sarcastically then laughed. “That’s not happening. Ever. You deserve total shit, Chris. Total fucking shit”

“Same goes to you, well at least we’ll be in hell together” said Chris smugly.

Hell? What is he talking about? I was about to turn around to face him when his hand squeezed my waist telling me not to move an inch.

“I’m done talking,” Ryan growled. “Close your eyes, my angel”

I narrowed my eyes at him and I was about to shout at him when Chris broke my words.

“Yes, please Angel. Close your eyes,” he cooed on my ear. “Do it for me”

“You’re not going to get yourself killed are you?” I asked, my voice shaking mad.

“We’ll see,” he said with a hint of amusement in his tone and I wondered why the hell he found this amusing.

“Close your eyes, Angel” he said and I obeyed. “Remember, you’re mine. Always is and always will be. I love you”

Then it all happened in a fraction of a second.

My eyes were welled with tears and I was about to turn to kiss him until two loud bangs echoed into the sky. A scream escaped my lips and I shouted his name into the wind but getting no response.
