36. Chapter 35

“Chris! Don’t leave! Please,” my mother’s pleading voice filled my ears.

“Chris, I didn’t mean to hurt you, please don’t leave” said my father as he raised his arm, reaching out to me like I was a 2 year old.

I glared daggers at them and there was no way I was leaving. I breathed heavily and the memories of when I was a child went in my mind and I felt the tears forming in my eyes. What have I done? I’ve turned into a monster

“I’m sorry,” I whispered to them, taking one last look at the parents that gave me everything and I didn’t give anything in return.

I held the door knob and pulled it open, stepping outside into the cold nighttime. I took a deep breath and slammed the door shut, hearing the scream of a mother yearning for her child.

“Chris!”

I shot up from my sleeping position and grabbed the blanket that was suffocating me. I sat upright and I was staring dead straight at the wall across me, my breathing was ragged and all I could hear was the painful scream of my mother. Forget it. I shook my head trying to dismiss the painful memories but I know that it will just come back later on. I looked out the window and the sun was already up and I didn’t realize that my legs were sweating like crazy. I grabbed the blanket and shoved it off me, feeling relieved. I got out of my bed, not even bothering to fix it anymore and walked towards the door. I grabbed my phone before walking out and walked down the stairs. I checked my messages and I don’t have any from Angel yet, I frowned because it’s already 11am and she usually wakes up early. I typed her a message before walking out the front door.

Me: Morning beautiful.

I smiled to myself and pictured her face in my head and the thought just made me get butterflies. This girl really has changed me. I still cant dismiss the thought that I’ve hurt her numerous times and to be honest, whenever I thought about it, it’s left a painful stabbing pain in my chest. I sighed and walked towards my car, hoping in and turning on the ignition.

I drove to the nearest McDonald’s and as I walked towards the doors I looked back and saw the same alleyway that Angel and I went to that caused us some trouble. I felt a chill run down my spine as I recalled the memories and my fists clenched when the vision of her getting beat up went in my mind. I should have protected her, not cried like a whiny baby. I didn’t know who the guy was and what he wanted but I will kill him one day.

I sighed heavily and walked inside. I ordered my usual nuggets and fries and took a seat near the window, facing the alleyway. I sat down on the chair and stared into the distance. I was chewing on my nuggets when a man in a black hoodie went in. I stared at him and he looked insanely familiar. I squinted my eyes to get a better look but his beanie was low over his face, not really covering his entire face but just right above his eyes. He was muscular and lean, with a perfect stance. He walked confidently towards the counter and the counter lady was practically drooling over him. I rolled my eyes at her and fought the urge to tell her that he’s not just worth it.

“Hello beautiful,” the husky voice of the man said.

“H-hi sir, um, what would you want today?” she asked, her cheeks turning a bright color pin and she was twirling her hair with her fingers. Gross.

“You,” he said in a flirting voice as he leaned in closer to the counter and the counter lady giggled loudly. “How much would that be?”

To be completely honest, the counter lady was pretty. But there was something with the dude in black that just bothered me. I was chewing on my nuggets slowly as he leaned in closer and whispered on the lady’s ear. He was keeping a close distance with her and she was staring at the ceiling as he whispered, her expression turned from flattered to fear. Her eyes widened and her hands that were on the counter tightened and she was gripping the counter tight, her knuckles turning white. The man smiled and leaned back, placing a 10 dollar bill on the counter, gave the lady a wink and walked away. He didn’t even buy any food so why was he here? I was gawking at him as he walked towards the doors and before he opened it, I saw him take a small glance towards me and then he stepped out of the store. I felt a chill run down my spine and my eyes were strained on the place where he just stood and never in my whole life have I been scared. I don’t know this man and what he wants. I tried to tell myself that he just looked at me for no absolute reason and I would believe that but the fact that he whispered something to a complete stranger and gave her a 10 dollar bill bothered me most. I need to get out of here.

I stood up from my chair, staring at my unfinished food and walked towards the doors. As I held the side of the door, about to push it open, I thought about something. I turned around and walked towards the counter and as I neared the counter, the counter lady looked up and her eyes widened, like she was afraid to see me. I raised my eyebrow.

“Hello,” I said to the girl.

She diverted her eyes from mine to the doors behind me and it bothered me. She didn’t even reply to me and all she did was nod.

“Excuse me?” I asked moving my head to the side so that she could look at me.

Her eyes went to mine and she looked…angry?

“What do you want?” she snapped as she took a step back and crossed her arms.

I stared at her in disbelief and pointed an accusing finger at her because my patience was running low and I just need to know what happened.

“Who was that man?”

“I dunno,” she said chewing on a bubblegum.

“Don’t lie,” I snapped at her then inched closer to the counter. “I wont ask again, who was he?”

“I said I don’t know!” she shouted at me then stormed towards the employee’s room.

I growled and slammed my fist on the counter. I started breathing heavily and all I wanted to do was go to her and force the answer out of her. She’s lying, she knows who he is and what he wants and it definitely has something to do with me. I tried to calm myself down, thinking of Angel and her smile and it actually worked. I grabbed a tissue from the counter and a sharpie marker on the side and I wrote in thick letters:

I’m not done with you yet.

I know that I was threatening her but I really didn’t care because there’s something wrong and I just want it to go away. Fear filled my veins as I thought that maybe he was going after Angel but I said to myself that no one is getting near her. I wont let her get hurt again.

I stormed out of the store and got in my car, driving to Angel’s house.

I reached her house about 4 minutes later since I was driving so vigorously. I still cant get the thought out of my head and I replayed their conversation about 500 times before I got tired. I parked the car right in front of her house and walked towards the front door. For some reason, I had an instinct to look left and right to see if anyone wearing a black hoodie was lurking in the corners. After I confirmed that there was no one I knocked on the door. A few minutes later the door opened and I was met with the beautiful face of my girlfriend. I smiled at her and tried to push the anxiety away. She smiled widely and jumped on me, hugging me tight and I couldn’t help but smile as well. She’s the only one that makes me happy. She pulled away seconds later and looked deep into my eyes, like she was searching for something. Oh crap. She knows something’s up.

“Is everything alright?” she asked in her adorable voice and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Everything’s swell, my angel” I lied then pinched her cheeks.

She glared at me and I couldn’t help the laugh that escaped my lips.

“Stop doing that!” she exclaimed as she crossed her arms and frowned.

Gosh, my girlfriend is such a baby.  I rolled my eyes and leaned in closer to her, my nose touching hers. Her eyes met with me and I could see the blush on my cheeks. I pecked her lips lightly then walked inside her house.

A few minutes later, I was on Angel’s bed with her by my side, my arm around her shoulder, a bag of chips in between our legs and the TV blaring into the room. We were watching New Girl, which was her favorite show, but I absolutely despised it. I groaned when she jumped on her bed and turned on the TV and New Girl was on. This girl

“Can we watch something else babe?” I breathed out as I bit a Lays chip.

“Nope,” she said, popping out the p and leaned in closer to me.

“Such a baby,” I whispered, hoping that she didn’t hear me.

“What did you say?” she asked suspiciously as she turned her head to face me.

God, she’s so sexy. I leaned in and kissed her then pulled away. “Nuthin,”

“Good, now shut up because I love this show,” she murmured as she ate about 4 chips at once.

I sighed heavily and said to myself that I had to deal with it. I looked out her window and stared at the trees swaying peacefully. My thoughts brought me back to McDonald’s even though I wanted to push it away but it was inevitable. The guy just bothered me and the fact that he whispered something to her bothers me even more. My thoughts were snapped away once I felt a vibration on my pocket. I sighed heavily and pulled it out and I had a text message.

Unknown: I’m inescapable. Watch yourself and your gorgeous girlfriend.

Holy fucking hell.
