I woke up when I felt an annoying vibration on my left hip. I groaned in frustration and took quite some time to get off of Chris’ arms which were as heavy as I thought it would be. He moaned in frustration as I tried to break free but instead he pulled me closer to me, caging me with his arms. I rolled my eyes and poked his cheek, trying hard to fight the frustration of my phone and the fact that I want to throw it at the wall. After poking his cheek countless times, he opened his eyes and gave me a small smile.

“Morning babe,” he whispered on my lips as he drew nearer and nearer, wanting to kiss me.

“My phone is ringing,” I said sharply.

He groaned in frustration then opened his arms and then I rolled over my bed and sat on the edge. The weird thing was that I was breathing rather heavily right now, was he hugging me that tight? Jeez. Then I remembered I woke up some time after we slept, trying to catch my breath because he was squeezing the life out of me. I pulled out my phone and saw that it was Claire calling. I answered the call then fell backwards on my bed.

“What?” I said in a sleepy tone.

“What do you mean what?!” she shouted so loud at the phone which made my ears start to ring.

“Shush, shush” I said slowly.

“Whatever,” she snapped. “Why didn’t you go to school today?”

I looked at Chris and he was sleeping like a baby as he hugged the pillow and wrapped his leg over it. Good thing he doesn’t snore or I would’ve kicked him out of my bedroom. He looks so peaceful.

“Because I had something to do,” I said trying hard to think of a reasonable reason.

“I swear, if you spent the whole day making out with your boyfriend I will murder you,” she said menacingly.

“I’m not telling you anything,” I said as I smiled to myself.

“Anyways,” she said then paused for a second which made me start to worry. “That’s not why I called”

“Then why did you call?” I asked as fear started to rise in my body.

I snuck glances at Chris and knew that as long as I was with him I was safe. Claire paused for about a minute and as each second passed I started to get even more scared because of what she was going to say. What if it’s my mother?

“Luke is gone,” she said then started to cry.

I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding then I rolled my eyes. Jeez. This girl is such a lovesick human being. I actually thought something really bad had happened.

“Go look for him,” I said to her like it was the most normal thing ever.

“I have!” she wailed. “It’s been days and he hasn’t come home. I asked his parents, his cousins, his aunts and uncles and they have no idea”

I bit my lip as I thought of something to comfort her with. “Don’t you worry, he’s fine”

“How do you know?!” she shouted. “Your boyfriend isn’t missing now is he?”

“No, he’s not,” I said as I started to get angry. How dare she.

“Well then you have no idea how-“

“But wanna know what else has happened?” I shouted at the phone.

“Enlighten me!” she snarled.

“He got shot by a gun on his stomach and he got beaten up on every part of his body,” I hissed on the phone. “So don’t you dare talk about him like that”

I gritted in anger then ended the call. I let out puffs of air as I tried to control myself. I can’t believe my friend just did that. I closed my eyes and took some slow breaths then suddenly I felt warm arms wrap around my body. I leaned to him and he pressed his chest on my back and resting his chin on my shoulder.

“That was a little bit harsh now wasn’t it?” he said slowly in his morning voice.

“Whatever,” I snapped at him.

He sighed heavily then got up from the bed, walking towards the bathroom. He opened the door and went inside, I watched him as he slowly closed the door, stopping midway and looking me dead straight in the eye.

“Don’t worry, Angel,” he said then gave me a tight smile like he was hiding something from me. “It’s all over. You have nothing to worry about”

But that’s the problem. There are so many things to worry about.

He walked out of the bathroom a few minutes later and that’s when I realized that he had washed his hair. My pink towel was on both sides of his shoulders and I couldn’t help the blush that formed on my cheeks as I realized that that towel has been all over my body for the past years. I was still sitting down on the same spot and he shook his head at me. He walked towards me and knelt in front of me, taking my head in his hands, making me look in his eyes. The only thing that can calm me down.

“Stop worrying so much,” he said assuring me. “You’ll get wrinkles on your pretty little face”

He winked at me then he jumped on my bed, grabbed the remote control and turned on the TV. I scowled at him then walked towards the bathroom because all I needed right now was a nice hot bath. After about 20 minutes, I stood up from the bathtub and grabbed the spare towel which was much smaller than the pink one. I stood in front of the mirror and looked at myself and saw how bruised up my body was. I never knew I was this fragile before. My skin became more pale and my eyes became more dull. I looked like a ghost. And I wondered how Chris can still call me beautiful. I shook my head in disbelief, he’s just crazy. I was about to walk out of the bathroom when I realized that I didn’t bring any clothes inside. My eyes widened and I searched my bathroom, looking for old clothes that I may have put there but no hope. My cheeks heated up as I realized that Chris was just sitting on my bed and I have no choice but to walk out of the bathroom…in a towel. I scowled at the mirror and realized that he planned all of this. That littleUGH. I stomped my foot and opened the door then stuck my head out. Chris’ eyes diverted to me then he raised an eyebrow.

“Yes?” he asked, hiding that smirk.

I scowled at him. “You got my towel!”

He smirked at me then raised the towel in his hands, waving it and trying to tease me.

“Oh why yes I did! How could I forget?” he said sarcastically, turning the towel up in the air.

“Give it back to me!” I shouted at him, my hands clinging on the door and on the small towel wrapped around my body.

He placed his finger on his chin, acting like he was thinking then a few seconds later he shook his head. “Nope”

My eyes widened in anger. “Asshole! I need to get my clothes!”

He waved his hands dismissively. “Then go get it” he said then smirked.

“Not while you’re in here!” I said angrily, feeling my cheeks heating up.

He grinned at me then licked his lips which made my face heat up. Oh crap. This boy is killing me. He gave that annoyingly sexy look at me and that’s when I knew that he won’t give in. Well…he’s my boyfriend anyways so I don’t see the problem. I stuck my tongue at him then closed the door of the bathroom. What am I going to do? I can’t stay in here forever. I looked at the mirror and the towel only reached about an inch below my butt. I was completely exposed and I know that Chris just wanted to tease me. Men are such perverts. I looked straight into my green and eyes and said to myself to just go with it. I took a deep breath and walked towards the door, gripping the towel for dear life. I opened the door and stepped outside with my back facing him. I could feel his eyes on me, looking me up and down which I found extremely uncomfortable. Oh God please help me. I heard him take a sharp breath which made me smile. I walked slowly towards my closet and opened the closet doors. I decided to tease him as well. I pulled out light blue lacy lingerie underwear and threw it on the bed, landing right below his feet. I looked behind me and saw that he was staring at the panties like some kind of wild creature. He was completely immobilized and I tried hard not to laugh. I grabbed a gray tank top and black short shorts and threw it on the bed as well. I closed the closet doors and turned around, facing him as he stared at me with disbelief. We just stared at each other then he scanned my body up and down then he bit his lip. I forced myself not to laugh and I thought that if this was the only way to shut him up then I can do this all day. I walked towards the bed slowly, making every step intimate and his eyes grew wider and wider. I grabbed my clothes then stuck my tongue at him.

“Pervert,” I said to him then chuckled.

He snapped out of his reverie then his eyes widened. He glared at me then crossed his arms.

“I’m not a pervert!” he shouted and whined.

“Whatever you little baby,” I said teasingly.

His eyes narrowed then he glared at me. “You’re going to regret that!”

I screamed as he tried to reach for my arm but I was too fast. I held my clothes close to my chest then ran for the bathroom, he was chasing after me and each second I got scared. Finally, I made it to the bathroom then I slammed the door shut and he was banging on the door. I laughed out loud and he was shouting words at me.

“You’re going to regret that!” he shouted then I heard his footsteps walk away.

I sighed heavily then changed into my clothes. I opened the door with my towel on my hair as I tried to make it dry. I looked at the bed and I found Chris laying down on it hugging my unicorn stuff toy. I shook my head at him and judged him for being so childish. But that’s my stuff toy too I walked towards him and jumped on him, landing on his back. He didn’t move an inch and he was just staring at the TV. I raised an eyebrow and poked his cheek and he didn’t move again. I shrugged my shoulders and shifted my position, making me lay right in front of him. I stared at his face and he was looking at the wall behind me. I frowned then leaned in and pressed my lips against his but unfortunately he didn’t kiss back. I pulled away then glared at him. What’s his problem?

“Hey, is everything all right?” I asked.

He ignored me. I shook my head and gave up. I stood up then walked towards my phone. Then I realized that he’s ignoring me because I teased him a while ago. I let out a little laugh and in the corner of my eye I saw him look at me. I checked my messages and I had 2 texts and 1 missed call from Claire. I sat down on my chair and checked them.

Claire: Fine. Just because you have a boyfriend doesn’t mean that he gets to be your only friend. I didn’t know something like this would change you.

Claire: Jeez. I’m sorry Angel. It’s just that he’s been gone for days and I don’t know what to do…

My heart dropped as I read her messages then a felt a pang of guilt and sympathy. If I were to put myself in her shoes and found out that Chris just magically disappeared then I wouldn’t know what to do and I’d probably go crazy. I felt bad. But there was one thing that was right that having Chris has changed me. I don’t know why but it has. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or something bad.

I called Claire.

“Hey,” I said trying to find the right words to say. “Listen-“

“No, you listen” she said slowly like she has been crying. “I’m sorry about-“

“No,” I cut her off. “I’m sorry for being such an asshole”

“It’s alright, I understand why you snapped,” she said then sighed.

“Have you found him yet?” I asked and I regret asking it the second I did.

“No, but I do know something,” she said in a whisper.

“Oh what is it?”

“Be careful with that boyfriend of yours,” she said clearly.

My eyes widened and they diverted to Chris as he was watching TV so seriously.

“What? Why?” I asked, my voice shaking.

“I don’t know but when I went to the police about Luke,” she said then paused for a second like she was thinking if she should say it or not.

“What is it?” I whispered to her.

She took a deep breath and I looked at the back of Chris’ head and wondered what could he have done so wrong that it had to be in concern with the police?

“They were talking about him, Angel,” she said, exasperated.

“What about him?” I snapped.

“Talking about something that he did,” she said then sighed. “All I know is that it’s something bad”

“How do you know it’s something bad?!” I shouted at the phone as fear started to rise in me.

“I don’t know!” she said sounding tired. “Just be careful”

“He’s not a monster!” I shouted at her with so much anger and that’s what caught his attention since he turned his head to me and gave me a questioning look.

I dismissed his look and stood up from the chair. I can feel his eyes on me and I forced myself to believe that what I’m saying is true.

“You’ve seen him on the outside, Angel” she said. “The monsters are the ones that are hidden on the inside”
