32. Chapter Thirty-One - A Few Hours Earlier

"You know, we could have been travelling a lot faster if you were able to control the blue crystal." Eternia remarks casually as they step into Stratos. "Pan, you're spacing out again." Eternia shouts suddenly jerking Pandonium back into reality.

"Sorry." Pandonium apologize looking forward as they continue walking averting her gaze.

"What's wrong? Tell me. It might make you feel better." Eternia says, stopping to face him.

"I just can't stop thinking about what Ike said. Maybe he's right. I mean Zymie does look like he is keeping something from us." Pandonium sighs.

"For all we know, that could be a plot to set us against each other." Eternia assures him. "I mean think about it. Why would he sent us after the crystals when he could have done it himself?" Eternia asks.

"There is something I have to tell you. The first time when Zymie gave me this sword, the tiny crystal here, shone rather brightly." Pandonium says indicating the fragment of the blue crystal that lies at the intersection of the sword.

"Uh-huh but what does this have to do with anything?" Eternia questions.

"That's because I'm not finish yet. So after that, he took me into a room inside the temple and on one of the walls of that room was the blue crystal." Pandonium recounts while studying Eternia's serious expression.

"You are talking about our temple correct? Was this before or after it collapse?" Eternia asks.

"Before. The point is he could have been using me right from the start. Once the crystal was out and when we were safely outside, he kept going on about how it was my duty to gather the rest." Pandonium waited while she absorbs his tale.

"Wait, what do you mean safely outside?" Eternia questions with a rather serious expression.

"Th... That, about that." Pandonium sighs before continuing. "That was during the time when the temple collapse." Pandonium finish as he studies Eternia's expression.

"And you only waited until now to tell me all this?" Eternia explodes into rage. "What else are you keeping from me?" she questions him with much ferocity as she pins him to the ground. She draws an arrow along with the bow pointing it directly at him as soon as his body makes contact with the ground.

"Zymie wasn't kidding about not telling a girl something bad when she's mad and I told her when she wasn't mad, imagine that." Pandonium mutters under his breath before facing her. "I'm not keeping anything else from you. I swear." Pandonium replies.

"I'll forgive you on the account that we have known each other for a long time but never keep something from me again." Eternia threatens before getting up. Pandonium just nods his head surprise by this side of Eternia which he had seen on occasions but never directed at him.

A huge gust of wind coming from the north begins blowing with so much force, it would be impossible to see anything without shielding the eyes from the sudden gust.

"We'll take cover in that house." Eternia shouts over the loud howling noise the wind is producing. They struggles against the strong wind with every step preventing themselves from being blown away by it. Reaching the door, they pull at it with all their might but it didn't even budge. Pandonium continues to tug at the door as Eternia takes a quick glance around. "I'll be right back." Eternia shouts and dissappears. A few minutes later, she returns with a huge trunk. Shoving it in between the doors, twisting and pushing against the trunk and together they manage to open the door. They hurry into the room before shutting the door. However, just as they shut the door against the chilling wind, the wind stops just as quickly as it had came.

"That was weird." Pandonium remarks, opening the door and looking around for any changes in the scenery. The wind had completely died down and although the buildings are old, they are still in tact.

A light breathing sound behind them causes Eternia to be on edge as she turns around quickly and while she turns, she prepares her bow and arrow so that once she is facing that direction, the tip of her arrow is doing the same.

"What? What is it?" Pandonium ask in alarm as they peer into the darkness of the room, squinting their eyes as they do so.

"I thought I heard..." Eternia's voice trails off, pricking her ears for any sound. "Never mind. It must have been my imagination." Eternia says as she straighten herself without lowering her guard.

"There's something here." Pandonium says picking up a piece of paper with partially burnt corners to examine it. "It looks like some kind of note." Pandonium says while examining it.

"Well, what does it say?" Eternia ask as she steps close to him to take a peak.

"Come only when the last crystal have been retrieved and when you do, make sure you are not being followed. Destroy this note when you are done with it. We will meet at the heart of Darkenvil cave when the moon is at its fullest." Pandonium reads.

"Who do you think wrote this?" Eternia ask.

"Whoever it is, it looks like they are after the crystal as well." Pandonium answers still observing the note. "The moon is at its fullest." Pandonium adds slowly as if trying to grasp a hidden meaning behind it.

"That's a full moon and the next full moon will be three nights from tonight. We have to hurry if we want to stop them." Eternia shouts.

"Do you even know where this Darkenvil cave is?" Pandonium ask.

"Shh!" Eternia hushes him as a movement from the darkness causes Eternia to grab at her bow and ready her arrow, aiming into it. Pandonium unsheath his sword and points the tip of the blade towards the darkness. They remain in that position for a short time before something slowly emerge from within the darkness. At first, they are not able to make out what it is, only that it was something blue but as it reveal more of itself with its blue head and black hide coming into view, they realise that they have come face to face with a dragon. The dragon gives a loud and fierce roar before swinging its claws at them, separating them from each other. Eternia jumps out of the way agilely. Pandonium not as agile manages to use his sword to shield himself as he jumps towards a small hole at the side of the wall. The dragon swings its tail towards him. He takes off running and slides with just enough room to go through the hole, escaping the attack the dragon throws at him. As soon as Eternia jumps out of the way, the dragon turn towards her and grabs her with its claws. No matter how hard Eternia struggles, she isn't able to break free from the dragon's grasp. Pandonium peeks back into the hole from which he had slide out only to see Eternia being held captive by the dragon. Pandonium crawls back through the hole and rushes towards the dragon, tightening his grip on the handle of his sword. The dragon turns around towards the source of the sound only to get a slash on its hind leg. Pandonium stays out of sight from the dragon as he move towards the front of the dragon. Upon reaching the front of the dragon, Pandonium lunge towards the dragon's claw which is holding onto Eternia, slicing its claws causing the dragon to release her. He catches her in mid-air as the dragon gave a fierce roar before unleasing a breath of fire towards them. Unable to change the direction that they are heading towards in mid-air, they can only watch as the flames burn its way towards them.
