43. Chapter 43:

*Yvette’s P.O.V.*

No matter how angry I was with Johanna for staying with that beast I knew she did it because she was protecting everyone else. It would’ve been easy to go to the police and show them her injuries, but he would either run or beat her to death before she could reach the station. I haven’t known her for long but I know she isn’t one of the selfish ones. She somehow sensed that Michael was coming and so she had to break Louis heart. And then I had betrayed her trust and told Louis that she was with him. When she called me on Skype that day she was angry, but most of all she looked scared. She looked terrified that Michael would get to Louis. It something happened it would’ve been my entire fault.

It has been nine days since she called me on Skype. Nine days since I heard from her and nine days to much. Before we would talk to each other in school but somehow she hasn’t been there. The students were currently having a substitute teacher and the principal doesn’t want to tell me why she isn’t there. Today was Sunday and I was currently at Nialls flat. I usually come here on the weekends because it’s hard to see each other on the weekdays. I was lying in bed when Niall walked into his bedroom.

“What wrong Yvie?” He jumped on the bed and placed his head on my stomach. I sighed and looked down at him.

“I haven’t seen Johanna in over a week. I’m just a little worried.” I shrugged it off and Niall kept looking at me with concerned eyes.

“She hasn’t been to work?” I shook my head. He sat up and his face turned a little bit more serious. “You don’t think he would…” I understood what he meant and I could only raise my shoulders in response.

“I have no idea.” I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. I took my glasses off and placed them on the bed. “I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do because I know she wouldn’t want me to get worried.” I lifted my gaze so I was looking at Niall and he sighed. As he scratched his neck he gave me a guilty look and I understood he was going to have to tell Louis.

“He’s got the right to know.” I sighed and put my glasses on. I got up from the bed and Niall followed me as I began walking towards the door. Just as I was about to open it I turned back and looked at him.

“Promise me you won’t go with him when he tries to get her back.” I almost chocked on the tears that were threatening to fall and he pulled me into a tight hug. “I just don’t want you to get hurt.” I clung to his shirt and he kissed the top of my head.

“I won’t go with him, I promise.” I leaned back and looked up at him. He gently pecked my lips and as he leaned back I let him go to open the door. I took a deep breath as I walked out into the hallway and towards Louis and Harrys flat. This wasn’t going to be pretty.

*End of Yvette’s P.O.V.*

*Louis’ P.O.V.*

I was sitting on our couch, as usual, looking at my computer while the TV was on, as usual. Everything was just going through the motions, just like they had done for the last six months. Last week I had gone to see her. She looked so sad to see me though. It was like I only made her life more difficult by being there. It was almost as if she was afraid of me being there, and I didn’t understand why. I knew she had gotten back together with Michael, and even though I couldn’t understand why, I also knew that he was still abusive. Niall came to me about a month after she moved out. He told me she started seeing Michael again and that he quickly moved in with her. I could only feel anger when I heard about that. I just couldn’t see why she did it. During the short time she lived with us she only displayed utter fear towards him, and now she was living with him. It just didn’t make sense.

And then about a month ago Yvette had been over with the rest of the guys and girlfriends for dinner when she got a call. She had excused herself and went into one of the bedrooms down the hall. When she got out she looked really sad and whispered to Niall. Although she whispered I sat near and over heard what she said.

”It was the hospital.” She leaned back from Niall and he looked at the table and sighed. Before he could respond I spoke up.

“Why is the hospital calling you?” Her gaze quickly snapped up from the floor and she looked at me with horror. She slowly shook her head and I looked at Niall. From what I understood he knew too. I instantly got suspicious and looked at the others around the table. They all looked as lost as I felt and when I looked back at Yvette she was looking at Niall. Niall slowly nodded his and Yvette turn her head towards me.

“I’m not supposed to tell you this.” My heart dropped when I instantly knew who it was about. I wanted her to speak faster and just tell me how bad it was. “Johanna is in the hospital right now.” Yvette looked over at Niall and he took a deep breath.

“They’ve found two broken ribs and think that she might have a concussion.” He wrapped his arm around Yvette and hugged her as close as possible.

“The hospital called me to tell me that she’s going home today.” She looked down at her hands and she wouldn’t meet my eyes. I felt anger fume through me and I looked down at the table.

“Is this the first time?” I looked up at Niall and saw him slowly shake his head. Without thinking I stood up and walked to the door. Before I could reach it however someone pulled me back by my arm. “Let me go!” I turned around and saw both Niall and Yvette standing there. Yvette looked at me with desperate pleading eyes. She grabbed both of my arms and shook me gently as she spoke.

“She doesn’t want to see you.” I looked away from her gaze because I knew she was telling the truth. “If you go there, not only will she shun you but she will hate herself for being forced to break your heart one more time.” I sighed and shook her hands off me. I stared at her for a few seconds before speaking.

“I’m going to bed.” I turned and walked away. It didn’t matter that the clock was five pm, I just couldn’t handle being around people and staying sane.

It had taken me a month to decide I was going to go see her. Just to see how she was doing. I didn’t tell anyone I was going, because I knew they would’ve tried to stop me. And now I was sitting on my couch, thinking about how much I wanted her here. I didn’t want her to be with someone who hurt her as much as he does. I looked at my computer screen which had a picture of me and Jo on it, I felt the rage from that first time come. Just as was about to throw my computer into the wall a knock was heard on my door. I turned my head and looked at it, dumbfound because no one ever knocked on our door. If it was one of the boys they would just walk in. I must’ve been staring at the door for a few minutes because the people knocked again. I shook my head and stood up to open the door. When I saw who was outside the door I groaned and walked over to the couch again.

“You know you can just walk inside right?” I sighed and put the TV on mute. When I looked up at them they were both standing at the side of couch. I started to get irritated and scoffed as I spoke up once more. “Is something wrong?” They looked at each other with worry in their eyes. When they turned to me again they still didn’t speak up. “Niall? Yvette? Just tell me already.” I sighed as I leaned back onto the couch.

“Lou.” I looked up at Niall and he looked like a mess. “Mate, it’s bad.” I sat up straight and looked at him and then at Yvette.

“What do you mean? Is it about Johanna?” Yvette quickly looked down at the floor and Niall wrapped his arm around her. She calmed down a little and soon looked up at me.

“She’s been off the grid for a week now.” My eyes almost popped out of my head as she told me. “I haven’t seen her or spoken to her. When I call her it goes right to voice mail. She hasn’t been to school either. They put in a substitute on Monday.” She shook her head and walked over to me. She sat down next to me and grabbed my clenched fist. “I know I told you she didn’t want to see you.” She took a deep breath and looked up at Niall. He instantly walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. She looked at me for a long time as if she was thinking about whether she should say something or not.

“Just say it Yvie.” I looked at her and tried not to look angry. All I wanted to do right now was push her hands off me and go to Johannas place and kill him. I stared at her and waited for her to speak.

“She only told me to tell you that because…” She swallowed hard and looked down at our hands. She took a deep breath and spoke silently. “Because he threatened to kill you if she contacted you.” My body froze. I couldn’t feel my hands anymore. All I could feel was the fear of what he might have done to her because I was so stupid to go visit her last week. I didn’t know what to do. I stood up and looked around. I was searching for something, but I didn’t know what. Without knowing it I felt Niall shake my body and my mind slowly started to focus on him.

“Mate! Are you okay?” I shook my head and he sighed. I shook his hands off me and backed away from him.

“No I’m not okay! I need to do something.” I ran my hands through my hair and looked at them desperately. “I have to do something.” I felt tears come to my eyes as I thought about the fact that she could be dead. “What am I supposed to do?” I was so lost. I didn’t know how to handle this but I knew I had to. She had to be safe, and the reason she wasn’t was me. She was being stupid and kept on trying to keep me safe.

“Louis.” Yvette spoke softly and I looked at her as the tears fell from my eyes. She was crying too. “I need you to save my best friend.” She pleaded and hugged Niall close. I nodded and straightened my back as I thought about how I was going to that.

“You need to be careful mate.” Niall walked up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. I nodded and realized what I had to do.

“Niall, I need you to get all the guys over here.” He nodded and I picked up my phone. I looked back up at him and he looked at me confused.

“What are you going to do?” I looked at my phone and typed in the name I wanted to call. When I looked up again Niall looked more scared and I patted his shoulder.

“No need to worry.” My eyes shifted to Yvette and I smiled slightly. “I’m going to take her home.” I began walking towards my bedroom and dialled the number I needed. “First I need to talk to Simon.” I walked into my bedroom and closed the door behind me. I waited as a few tones went through and soon he answered.

“Hello Louis.” I swallowed and cleared my throat.

“Hi Simon.” I stayed quiet for a few seconds and he started to get worried.

“Has something happened Louis?” I ignored his question and spoke up.

“I’m going to do something that you’re not going to like.” I spoke quickly and waited for his answer.

“Whatever it is, we can solve it some other way. Are the guys with you? What are you going to do?” He sounded mad and worried at the same time.

“Simon.” He became quiet and I took a deep breath. “I’m not calling you so that you can stop me. I’m calling you to tell you that I’m bringing Johanna home. And things might get messy.” I hung up before he could speak. Instantly my phone began ringing but I ignored it. I walked out into the living room and saw Niall and Yvie on the couch. They were talking in low voices but stopped as I approached.

“What did he say?” I shrugged as if the conversation I just had wasn’t important. It wasn’t but that was not the point.

“Doesn’t matter. Did you call the boys?” He nodded and I grabbed my keys. “Good. Make sure they get seen coming in.” As I put my shoes on Niall walked over to me and looked at me with questioning eyes.

“What are you going to do?” I stood up straight and looked over at Yvette who was crying.

“I’m going to get Jo. I need the paparazzi to see everything.” I paused and looked back at Niall. In a hushed tone I spoke again. “If I’m not back in an hour, call the police.” Without waiting for him to answer I walked out the door.

I had one thought running through my head. I needed to save Jo. If she wasn’t safe I couldn’t live with myself. So as I drove to her place, I hoped the bastard wouldn’t be home. Because if he were, he wouldn’t be alive for much longer.
