27. Chapter 27:

I laughed as everyone started singing Happy Birthday to me. I couldn’t believe how beautiful everything was and I just couldn’t stop crying. I smiled between the sobs so that everyone would think it was happy tears, but I knew there were people that saw through my charade. My mother and Soph were two of them. Louis saw through it too, even though he didn’t show it. I knew he was worried about me but I couldn’t make myself change my plans. As they all finished singing the stupid song and clapped as I blew out the candles on the cake, I couldn’t help but think how wicked I was for doing this. Instead of prolonging the inevitable I should just pull the Band-Aid off. All of the boys were now hugging me, wishing me a happy birthday once again and when my mother once again walked up on stage I completely lost it. I threw myself in her arms and she patted my back. She laughed lightly and only I knew it was false.

“She’s just overwhelmed. I’m gonna take her to the bathroom so she can freshen up!” She must have spoken to one of the boys and they must have answered with a nod because we started to move off the stage. She dragged me towards the long hallway we had entered from and we kept on walking until we came to a small dressing room. She pulled me into the room and she pushed me down on the sofa before getting a bottle of water for me. She kissed my hair before sitting down next to me.

“Mom… I’ve missed you.” I almost didn’t manage to speak the words. I sobbed them out and she pulled me into a tight hug. She shushed me as she rocked me gently. I once again felt like a little kid.

“I know baby.” She kissed my cheek. I sighed as I felt the tears stop running. I closed my eyes and sniffed her sent. I had missed her familiar smell. She leaned back and gave me a assuring smile. “Now tell me why you’re really sad?” I sighed and leaned back onto the couch. I now felt like a teenager again.

“They are such sweet guys.” I spoke softly and groaned at the stupid feeling of heart break. I saw her nod and she waited for me to continue. “I really like them.” I sighed again and looked my mother. She looked so innocent even though she was 55 years old. Her eyes made her look like a child and her personality only agreed with that. “But I’ve got a plan, and you’re not going to like it.” I looked at my hands as I explained everything to her. She never said a word, only nodded here and there to show she was listening. When I was finished she looked at me with slightly angry eyes and sighed.

“No, you’re right. I do not like it.” She shook her head and stood from her place on the couch. “But you’re a grownup so I have to trust you know what you’re doing.” She waved for me to stand up and I did so. I stood in front of her as she put her hands on my shoulders. “Make the best of the time you have with them. Besides Soph they are some of the best people I’ve met. It’s such a shame to break such innocent hearts.” She sighed and pushed me towards the door. I looked back at her as she walked behind me.

“I really don’t want to go out there…” She laughed and shook her head.

“You know you have too, its your birthday!” I sighed but couldn’t help the smiled that formed on my lips. We walked through the big door and into the stadium where everyone was now mingling. Right as we walked in we were swarmed with hellos and Happy Birthday. Most of the people I didn’t recognize but some I knew were celebrities. The few I knew who they were were Joe Jonas, Selena Gomez and Victoria Justice. I was totally fangirling but couldn’t show it to them. My mother and I slowly made it to the bar and I ordered a shot of vodka and a cider. She gave me a side glance, which I ignored. She knew how I got when I got drunk and it didn’t improve when I was sad to begin with.

I was leaning against the bar counter when someone tapped my shoulder. When I turned around Demi stood there with Perrie and Yvette.

“Hi girls!” I hugged Perrie and Yvette and smiled at Demi. “Are you all having a good time?” I tried to smile as largely as I could. They all nodded and then looked at me with evil eyes.

“Yes, we are.” They gave me evil smiles as well and I felt my stomach turn. “We were actually talking about that…” Yvette was the one that had been speaking and Perrie continued.

“We were saying ‘What an amazing time we are having’ and then we all looked at you…” She pointed towards me and I looked at her carefully. Demi kept the rant going.

“And then we said ‘We NEED to get the birthday girl drunk!’ so we came over here and…” I sighed and shook my head. I knew where this was going.

“Bartender!” Yvette yelled and the other girls laughed. He quickly walked over and winked at me.

“What can I get you birthday girl, and you other girls too.” He was really charming and I felt my cheeks flush.

“We will start with 15 shots!” Suddenly Soph were standing next to Demi and I smiled at her. “Oh, and make it Tequila!” The others gasped and then laughed. I only groaned and cursed her for knowing how to get me wasted. He nodded and started to pour the shots.

“Hi, I’m Demi.” Demi turned to Soph and shook her hand.

“I know!” She practically screamed. She was a hardcore Demi fan while I was more of a One Direction fan. “I am a huge fan, a true Lovatic!” I laughed out loud at her and she stuck her tongue out at me. I shrugged and turned around to the shots. He had placed them in three lines and motioned to all of them.

“Here you go, birthday girl.” I smiled and looked up at him.

“My name is Johanna.” He smiled sweetly and winked at me. Somehow it reminded me of Harry.

“Well, enjoy the rest of your night, Joey!” I laughed at the nickname he instantly gave me and thanked him. “Just shout if you want more!” He then walked to serve other people waiting by the bar. I looked after him as he walked away and couldn’t help but compare him to Louis. Louis wasn’t anything like that man, Louis was better. And I was flirting with another guy, as I was still together with him. I started to feel sick and turned to the girls. I just wanted to down those bloody shots and end the night.

“So are you guys ready?” I spoke and they all turned towards me. They nodded and smiled at me. We all downed two shots each and shook our heads when the alcohol tasted poorly on our tongues. I looked at the five shots on the counter and turned to the girls once more. “You ready for the last one?” Three of them shook their heads and Soph laughed at them.

“Well I think that for every girl that says no, Jo should take that shot!” She laughed and the other totally agreed with her. I looked at her in horror and shook my head.

“Are you crazy Soph? I’m gonna blackout!” She laughed and shrugged. She picked up two shots and gave one to me.

“It’s either that or…” She thought for a minute before Yvette spoke up.

“Or you have to kiss all the guys in the band, that’s all of One Direction and their band too!” She laughed at her awesome idea and high-fived with Soph. They looked at me and waited for my decision. Thinking it through I first thought it wasn’t such a bad idea. Kissing all of them, just a friendly kiss on the lips, wouldn’t be that hard. But then my mothers’ words popped up in my head. ‘It’s such a shame to break such innocent hearts.’ I sighed and nodded to the girls.

“Fine, I’ll take those bloody shots! But only because I don’t want to catch your cooties from the boys!” They all faked shocked and I only laughed at them. I quickly downed another shot and shook my head. I was really starting to feel the alcohol and I knew that when I was finished the last three I would be really drunk. I sighed as I took another. I washed my mouth a little with the cider I had gotten and sat on a bar stool.

“You guys should go dance or something. This will take a little while.” Yvette spoke up and sat down next to me. Soph jumped in excitement and pulled Perrie and Demi to the dance floor. I laughed at them before turning to Yvette. “So, are you having fun?” She smiled brightly at me and I nodded. I really was having a good time but there was a constant cloud above me.

“I am. Are you? Isn’t it strange to hang out with Demi though?” She looked at me in confusion before understanding what I meant. She smiled at the ground before speaking up.

“Niall had told her about us. She came up to me and whished us good luck!” She laughed and shook her head. “She told me that I really made him happy and she loved me for that.” She shook her head again and looked up at me. “It was really strange.” I laughed with her as I down another shot.

“Yeah well I’m glad she wasn’t against it. I really thought they were a couple.” I shrugged and took a sip of my cider.

“Yeah, me too. But she just explained it as they’re just really good friends. And I shouldn’t worry about her.” I smiled at her and took the next to last shot. I groaned and shook my head. The room was starting to spin but I felt good.

“I wanna dance!” I stood up and almost fell over. Yvette grabbed a hold of my waist as I took the last shot. “I made it!” She laughed as we walked to the dance floor where the others were. I spotted Louis and walked over to him. Right before I made it to him I stumbled but he caught me. I smiled up to him and he smiled a genuine smile back.

“Having a good time?” I nodded and reached up to peck his lips. My lips lingered on his as I hugged his body close to mine. The alcohol had hit me hard and I was sure that I wasn’t going to remember anything tomorrow. I broke the kiss and leaned my head against his chest. We swayed slowly even though the song that was playing wasn’t slow at all. I sighed in content and hugged him tighter.

“I love you Louis.” I mumbled and hoped he hadn’t heard me. But why did it matter? I wasn’t going to remember this tomorrow anyway.
