25. Chapter 25:

When we were finished getting dressed the girls and I walked out into the living room to the boys. They all turned around and whistled at us, making me blush madly. Louis however didn’t make a sound as he watched me. I just laughed at them all and pulled on the heels I was wearing tonight. The girls had actually succeeded with the dress choice because when I saw it on me I actually liked it. They had picked out a dress that went to a little over my knee and a pair of black stockings to that. The dress was yellow and strapless, although I was allowed to wear a small jacket like thingy.

They all piled out of the flat and Louis stood by the door waiting for me. I shot him a smile before wrapping him in my arms. I pressed my head to his chest and his arms hugged me tight. Today was the 17th of December which gave me two weeks. I smiled in content as I leaned back and looked at Louis. He smiled at me before pecking my lips softly. I closed my eyes to enjoy his touch and then looked at him and sighed.

“You ready to celebrate?” He asked softly and I nodded. He released me and grabbed my hand. As he pulled me out of the flat I couldn’t help but feel a little sad. Everything was moving so fast and I didn’t want to be older. I wanted time to stop and for the world to disappear.

“Where are we going?” I asked as Louis and I stepped into the elevator. The others had already gone downstairs before us, we were a little slow. He pressed the button for the bottom floor and smiled down at me.

“I can’t tell you that. It’s a surprise.” I smiled and let it go at once. I didn’t feel like arguing with anyone at the moment and had to make sure I didn’t ruin the time we had together. I closed my eyes for a few seconds before hearing the ding that signaled we had reached the bottom floor. When we walked out of the elevator the other stood outside and waited for us. I plastered a smile on my face as we all went to the cars. We all hopped in, Louis driving one and Harry the other, and we went on the road. I rode shot gun with Louis and was looking out the window waiting for us to arrive at the destination. I felt Louis reach over to grab my hand and I turned my head to give him a reassuring smile. He smiled back and looked back onto the road.

*Louis P.O.V.*

She was looking out the side window so I couldn’t see her face. For a couple of days now I’ve sensed that she had become a little gloom. It made me a little sad to see her so neutral about everything, she even agreed to stuff I knew she hated. I reached over to grab her hand and she turned her head and smiled at me. On the surface it looked like an innocent and happy smile but I could see in her eyes that she wasn’t happy. She looked content and satisfied, but never happy anymore. She was putting on a face for everyone and I couldn’t understand why.

When I was a teenager living with my family at home my mother told me a story about a co-worker. The man had just lost his wife and had taken a little time off from work. But the story was really about his wife, not him. She had been extremely depressed the last year and wasn’t working anymore. She was taking medication for it but it never seemed to help. One day when the man came home from work she smiled and told him she made dinner. She even made dessert for their two kids. He didn’t question her sudden change of mood, he knew it could be gone just as fast. After dinner he went for his daily run, being the health freak he was. The kids left the house to go hang out with some friends and the wife was left alone at home. The man was gone for about half an hour and when he walked into the kitchen something caught his eyes outside. As he ran out to the back of the house he saw his wife’s lifeless body hanging from the tree. She wasn’t moving at all, her body was completely still. She had hung herself.

The man had told my mother, they were close friends, that those last days when she acted so happy was when she had decided her faith. She knew her ending and she was happy with her decision. And as I was now looking at Johanna I felt a familiar pain in my stomach. I had a feeling she was going to disappear soon, and I was praying to the God I didn’t believe in that she wouldn’t kill herself. As we drove to the small stadium we were having a surprise party at I held her hand so tight it was a miracle that she didn’t complain. When we turned into the parking lot I had to let her hand go. I jumped out of the car as soon as I could and went around grabbing her hand again. She smiled at me with a confused look in her eyes.

“Are you guys coming?” Harry shouted from the small entrance to the stadium. The rest of the girls and guys were already walking towards him but Jo and I stood still.

“Yeah, just give me second?” I shouted and he shrugged. They all went inside and I turned to Johanna who gave me another sweet smile. I wanted to pretend everything was fine but I couldn’t.
“Johanna.” Her smile faltered a little as if she knew what I was going to say but it was back on her face just as fast.

“Yes, Louis?” She reached up and caressed my cheek and I felt myself blush. I closed my eyes for a few seconds before opening them and staring at her. She had during this time closed hers and was breathing silently. I leaned my forehead against hers.

“Please promise me you won’t to anything to hurt yourself.” I spoke so quietly and I felt tears sting my eyes. I looked at her as her eyes opened and she looked worried. She smiled sweetly once more and shook her head slightly.

“I promise, Lou.” She leaned forward so that her lips connected with mine and I closed my eyes for a second. For some reason I wanted to remember this. Everything in this moment was perfect. I had the girl I wanted and needed. I was happy. After a moment that didn’t last long enough she pulled back and gave me another smile. “We should go inside so that the others don’t worry.” I nodded and grabbed her hand. I knew that if I wanted I could stand out here for a hour longer because they knew how much I needed her. But today wasn’t about me. Today was about her and celebrating her existence.

*End of Louis P.O.V.*

When we entered the stadium I wasn’t that blown away by what I saw. Mostly because I couldn’t see anything. I heard someone talk about flicking the lights on and only seconds after that I was able to tell that we were standing in a hallway. I looked at Louis and instead of giving him a sideway glance with a lot of sass I shot him a smile and waited for him to start walking. I didn’t know what was going to happen but I knew I would like it. It turned out that the boys walking next to me was the one who knew the most, after my mother and Soph. We had just come to a big door when he turned around and kissed my cheek.

“Wait here?” I nodded and leaned against the wall. He slipped through the door without letting me peek inside and I sighed. My smile dropped and I felt my face hurt from the unnatural action. I really liked Louis. I didn’t want to hurt him so when he said those words earlier my heart broke. It sounded like he thought that I really was going to kill myself. That thought hadn’t even crossed my mind. I was the strong believer in that if you made a mistake, stick around and suffer the consequences. I felt myself become bored and began humming the song I was going to sing to Louis in exactly two weeks.

Just the thought of breaking his heart as much as I had done before made tears form in my eyes. But before I could start bawling my eyes out, someone cleared their throat beside me. My head snapped in that direction and also went wide when I saw who was standing there. It wasn’t just one person and I actually stopped breathing when I saw who it was. The tears started coming once again and I began shaking my head.

“I can’t be.” In front of me stood a very famous woman called Demi Lovato and she was hugging the most important person in my life. A person I hadn’t seen in forever. Before I could utter another world that said person wrapped her arms around me and I felt the familiar smell and warmth. I cried so hard it was ridiculous but I didn’t care. The person I was holding in my arms still looked at me with love in her eyes even though I hurt her so much. I leaned back and she wiped away my tears. After kissing both of my cheeks and leaning her forehead against mine she spoke.

“I’ve missed you baby girl.” My mother wrapped her arms around me and we both cried quietly.
