16. Chapter 16:

How to Move

Soph called after an hour

Soph had called me about an hour after I left. I hadn’t wandered of that far but I just needed to be away from everyone. Louis made me go crazy and he never understood where I was coming from. My background made me very unfitted to be with a celebrity. He would constantly be in danger and I couldn’t do that to him, or the other boys. When I had stormed out of the flat apparently Louis had tried to follow. Sophie being the one that knew me the best talked him out of trying and made him stay. I don’t know exactly what they had talked about but Soph thought it would be good if I did understand that he actually cared. I understood and it was the reason that made me care even more. I didn’t want him to be disappointed with me.

When I had come back to the flat anyway Soph and I had talked and started planning what we were going to with our time. I already knew she couldn’t stay the entire time with me, and I was fine with that. She had to go home for work. The boys were going to be gone for about three months and she planned on staying here for one and a half. This entire time that she was here was amazing. I am not going to tell you guys about it because we did what we do best. We did nothing at all. Some days we went out and saw London, seeing the nightlife as well. On the days I worked and she actually did too. She was a marketing executive back in Sweden, not at a big company but it went around. She took the first few weeks off but then her boss decided she was much needed. And as I said, I was working too. I had started my new job at a small high school in London before the boys left. The school was called Down Town Foley, the most stupid name I have ever heard a school being called. But then again if you translated what my school was called to English it would become Helmetschool. Not very classy.

Work was great really, I got along with everyone except the principal. At the beginning she was really nice to me but when she found out that I lived with the boys… Well we can call it the other side of the coin. She began being really mean towards me. I had told her about me staying out of the public eye and that’s why my address couldn’t leave her office. No one was to know about it. She began talking shit about me behind my back to the other teachers but I didn’t say anything about it. I really like my job and I have actually met a really great friend here. Her name was Yvette. She was a gym and biology teacher. Her humor was the exact same as mine and she were really smart. She looked like a typical crazy teacher, long wavy brown hair, brown eyes and glasses. On the days she had gym her hair was up in a ponytail and the other days she let it hang over her shoulders. She looked extremely beautiful no matter what and she was a great friend. After Soph had left she was the one who kept me sane in the big empty flat. I had told her about the boys and even about the drama with Louis.
So here we were. Those three months had gone by. The principal hated me more and more for every day but the students loved me.

I was sitting in the teacher’s lounge talking to Yvette and other teachers when my phone buzzed. When I picked it up from it’s place on the table I noticed I had gotten a private message on twitter. Harry had convinced me to get a twitter, it was set on private, so that the boys could message me over internet. I had agreed but didn’t use it for anything else. Anyways I had a message from Harry, telling me that their plane was landing in four hours. I replied and set the phone down. I was actually pretty nervous about the boys coming home. I had talked to all of them several times, except from Louis. He had taken my advice and was now in ignoring mode. I was actually thankful for that. I was lost in my own thoughts so I didn’t notice that Yvette was trying to speak to me. She waved her hand in front of my face one time and I noticed the rest of the teachers starting to leave.

“When does your class start?” She smiled sweetly at me and I smiled back to her. I looked at the big clock on the wall and then turned back to her.

“It doesn’t begin until five to one. Which means I have a forty minutes brake.” I smiled largely at her and drank from my coffee she had made for me. “How about yours?” She smiled too and shrugged.

“I think it’s like around one or something.” She made a mock voice that sounded like a really dumb teenager. I laughed loudly at her remark and leaned back in my seat.

“Alrighty then!” I made a stupid reference to Ace Ventura that only she would get. She began laughing at my joke and we both sat there laughing for a little while. Finally I sighed and looked at her seriously. “You know that thing I told you about? That I was thinking about doing?” I raised my eyebrow and looked around to see that no one was near. She nodded and leaned closer.

“You mean the singing?” I shushed her quickly and nodded. I let out a small laugh and leaned back once more. She mimicked my action and leaned back too. She drank from her coffee. She was thinking about something and I didn’t have to wait long before she spoke up. “So you’re going to start taking lessons then?” She smiled softly but I knew she didn’t like the idea. No matter how short the time had been since we met she knew me extremely well. Not as good as Soph, but almost. She knew I was going to beat myself down for not sounding as good as the singers I was living with. I let out a sigh and shook my head.

“Yeah, or well.. I started taking them two weeks ago.” I cringed back, expecting her to throw something at me. Her mouth fell open and she shook her head. “Look, before you have a hissyfit or something.” I paused and she gave me a skeptical stare. “I knew you were going to make a remark about me doing this because I miss ‘you know who’ and that is so not the case.” She shook her head as a big smile formed on her lips.

“They are coming home today right?” I nodded and her smiled turned slightly disgusted. “I am sick of that boy band.” She shook her head and looked at her mug. “All of my students are completely in love with them. It is ridiculous.” I laughed at her words and set down my mug on the table.

“Yeah, that’s what they all say before they meet them.” I winked at her and she began shaking her head violently. I looked at her with begging eyes. “Please!”

“I told you I don’t want to!” I pouted and showed her my definition of the ‘puppy eyes’. She began laughing at me but I didn’t break my stare. She sighed with a big smile on her face. “Fine, but only because you are forcing me. Not because I want to.” She pointed at me and I gave her the biggest smile I could. I jumped up and hugged her tightly before looking at her with amused eyes.

“Oh shush, you are going to meet them, fall for someone and then sleep with them. Ping-Pang-Poom you are dating one within a week.” I laughed as I heard the door to the lounge open. When I turned around my very angry boss was standing there looking at me. She pointed at me and then made a motion with her finger as if to indicate for me to follow her. She turned around and began walking towards her office. I turned to Yvette and shrugged. I grabbed my things and quickly walked to the principal’s office. I walked in and she was already sitting behind her desk.

“Shut the door.” She didn’t look at up as she wrote something down on the paper in front of her. I did as she had told me and then went to sit down in the chair in front of her desk. She continued to write on the paper for a few minutes more before looking up at me with serious eyes. Her eyes were always serious so that wasn’t a surprise. I tried smiling at her but she looked so cold my smile faded away.

“What the matter?” I asked with the most polite voice I could muster. She didn’t say anything for a while and she just kept looking at me with her evil eyes.

“This isn’t working out, Johanna.” My mouth fell open as her words sunk in.

“What?”

“I said this isn’t working out.” She repeated herself and sounded even more annoyed that she had to do so.

“I heard you. But why? I’ve been good.” I felt like a student right now. A student that was being told her future was over because she couldn’t pass her final exam on math.

“Because, Johanna, you are not doing your job. You are joking on the students expense and the student’s grades haven’t improved at all since you started. I think you could say they have gotten worse.” I felt tears well up in my eyes as I choked on my breath. I couldn’t understand. I sat there in silence waiting for her to tell me to just go home. “You can work the week out, but starting Monday you no longer work here.” She nodded her head, looking pleased with herself. She then remembered that I was still there. She gave me an annoyed look and waved her hand at me. “You can leave.”

Oh I wanted to tell her to fuck off. I wanted to say a lot more about how awful she was. I wanted to tell her that no body would ever love her because she couldn’t see the good in anything. But the new me stopped the old me from approaching. The new me, the me that was afraid of everyone and everything, nodded her head at the woman in front of me and then walked out of the room. I couldn’t believe my life was over. I had moved here because I had gotten my dream job. And now that was gone.

I met Yvette in the hallway. At first she was smiling at me and I noticed that she was going to crack a joke about the witch. But then she saw my face. She ran over to me with worried eyes and dragged me into the nearest empty classroom. She hugged me tight and rocked me back and forth as I cried. We didn’t speak and she just held me. When I finished crying, the tears drying out, she leaned back and looked at me. She wiped her thumbs over my cheeks and looked me straight in the eyes.

“What happened, Darling?” She looked at me with sad eyes as if she knew what I was going to tell her. I sighed and looked down at my hands.

I glanced at the scar I had on the inside of my right arm. I always told everyone that my cat did that to me. That she didn’t like to be held and one day I surprised her by lifting her up. And that she scratched me there and other places in pure panic. This was not true. But no one knew that. Not even Soph. She never knew what happened that may afternoon in me and my ex-boyfriends apartment. No one knew. I sighed and looked up at Yvette who was still staring at me. I wished that one person could guess what had happened that afternoon. But no one could because I was so good at lying. I smiled a sad smile to Yvette and grasped her hands. I took a deep breath and uttered the words softly.

“I got fired.”
