Chapter 9

He put his arm around my shoulders, easily since I was shorter than him.

“This was fun.” I smiled at him, looking up.

“It was... Would you like to go out again some time?” He asked me.

“Yes!” I said a bit too excitedly. I felt my cheeks go warm; I hoped he thought that was just the cold.

We hopped in the car; Harry started the engine and drove out smoothly onto the road.

I unlocked the door, walking into my warm hotel room.

Georgia and Caroline were sitting on the couch watching a movie, and their heads shot up as soon as I walked in.

“How was it?” Georgia asked.

“So fun! He’s so... cute! Amazing! Ugh! And he mentioned having date number two!” I cheered. I had taken my shoes of as I talked and now I was walking towards them. Caroline looked at me with weary eyes.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her.

“Nothing... Just tired.” She said.

“Okay,” I said, “What are you guys watching?” I asked.

“I don’t know... Caroline turned it on just then.” Georgia replied.

“I’m going to bed; we have to get up early because we’re going back to your house. Is it okay if I sleep in your bed, Rose?” Caroline asked. I nodded. Caroline walked off into the bedroom, closing the door behind her.

I sat down next to Georgia, sighing from being tired.

“She’s right. We need to get up early. Is it okay if you sleep on the couch tonight?” I asked Georgia.

“Yeah, good night.” She said.

“Good night.” I said, walking off into the room to go to bed.

I woke up to someone shaking me.

“What?!” I asked Caroline as she woke me up.

“We’re going back to your house now.” She said and left to give me time to wake up.

I checked my phone; it was 9:13a.m.

I got up out of bed to go to my suitcase and get ready, feeling dizzy from tiredness as I did.

“I kind of miss home. Hopefully they washed that mark off.” I said to Caroline and Georgia as we drove back home.

“They would’ve – I mean, we asked them and they said yes.” Georgia said.

“Yeah...” I replied.

“Turn the radio up!” Caroline said from the back.

“Okay.” I murmured reaching for the volume switch.

“...another death there. We still haven’t found out the name but she certainly has our sympathy.”

“They we’re saying it’s where you live before!” Caroline exclaimed. I stiffened up but continued to listen.

“Police officers saying there is a serial killer somewhere near the elementary school as that is where both the murders have happened. More news later tonight.”

“We live near the elementary school!” Georgia said to me with worried eyes.

“I know... We just have to be careful. No going out of the house, alone ‘till six. Okay?” I said to both of them. They nodded their heads in sync. “Hey, when are you going back to your home?” I asked Caroline.

“Soon... In like a week. Is it okay if I stay at your house for that? I was going to book a hotel but I want to stay with you guys!” She said to us.

“No problem. It’s definitely been an action packed time since you’ve come, huh?” Georgia said to us with a smile, referring to the murder in our own house.

“Yeah...” Caroline muttered.

“Feels kind of good to be home.” I said as we walked in the front door.

Georgia’s phone dinged and she picked it up. “I’ve got work tomorrow,” She sighed, “Guess you two will be alone without me.”

Georgia walked off into the hallway and as soon as she left Caroline turned to me.

“I got another message...” She said to me with worried eyes, showing me her phone.

Meet me at the park closest to you at 10:30PM tonight.

“Are you going to go?” I asked.

“No! No way!” She said.

“Are you gonna call the police?” I asked her again.

“No... I feel like this person will do something to me... I don’t know...” She said. I nodded and went to the fridge looking for food.

Georgia walked in the living room, “They scrubbed the message off.” She said.

“That’s good. I didn’t want to scrub it off myself.” I said getting goose bumps. I continued looking in the fridge until I finally settled on an apple.

Caroline and Georgia we’re sitting on the couch together, Caroline watching the news on TV and Georgia was on her laptop.

I sat in between them, trying to eat my apple quietly.

“There is no more news on here.” Caroline sighed, switching the channels until she stopped on a show I didn’t recognise.

It was 10:00PM and I was going to bed while Caroline was watching TV and Georgia went to bed about an hour ago.

I heard a beep and saw Caroline’s phone next to me, so I checked it out.

Tick, tock, tick tock.

Still haven’t arrived? Hmm, what shall I do?

I got up and quickly ran to Caroline’s room to show her.

“Caroline?” I yelled out.

“Caroline?” I yelled out again. I looked in her room to see she wasn’t there.

As I started to leave I stopped in my tracks.

She’s left for the park.
