Chapter 5

We stood staring at it for a couple of seconds.

“Who... How did that- What?” I asked, confused and shocked.

“Is that blood?” Georgia finally spoke.

I got up from my position and looked closely,

“I think so.” I replied.

“Were we in the room while they wrote it?” She asked.

“No, we would’ve heard them right? They must’ve written it before... or... I don’t- don’t know.” I said, stuttering the last bit.

“Let’s just clean it up. It’s scary to look at...” Georgia said. I nodded, then a thought popped into my head.

“Georgia... What if they were already in the room as we... ran in.” I gulped, tears springing in my eyes at the thought of it.

“No... Please be quiet. I’m scared enough.” She said.

“I’ll go get the cleaning stuff.” I said, walking out, wiping my eyes.

“I’m coming with you, don’t leave me here alone!” Georgia said, quickly running to my side.

We walked through the hall, Georgia flicking on every light switch there was as we did.

“Georgia, you’re going to waste our electricity b-“I screamed, stopping my sentence.

Near the front door was the pizza delivery man, dead.

“Rose! Rose?! ROSE?!” Georgia said, tears coming out of her eyes.

“I’m calling the police!” I said.

I shakily dialled the number and wanted for someone to pick up.

“9-1-1, what’s your emergency?” I heard a calming woman’s voice say. I took a gulp and started speaking.

“A person broke in our house... and... killed the pizza delivery man...” I chocked out.

I filled them in with all the details and then Georgia and I sat down on the couch near the front door together and waited.

“They should be here soon.” Georgia said.

“Should we ask them to scrub that message off? I don’t really want to, in case it’s... blood.” She said.

“Yeah, I know. Look, they’re here now...” I said scared, looking at the police. She smiled slightly, then disappeared looking down at the body,

I walked towards the door, unlocking it, and shivering as the wind hit my bear legs.

The police came rushing in, doing all sorts of things. One man came up to me.

“Hello... Did you get hurt?” He asked, worriedly.

“No. We’re fine.” Georgia replied.

“That’s good. Now I need you to tell me everything that happened...” He said.

“Well...” I started, tears in my eyes at the thought of everything, “We were at home, Georgia went to turn the radio up... and the power all went off... So as Georgia went to find candles, there was a loud crash. Then it happened again. I thought... I don’t know what I thought... So Georgia led me to her room. I don’t know why?” I explained, but Georgia interrupted me.

“I felt someone near me.” She said.

“You didn’t tell me this?!” I said.

“I was afraid saying it would... do something.... I didn’t know what to do, okay?!” She said.

“So after she led me into her room, we crouched down and sat there. Then there was lots of crashes, and the power turned on... Georgia found a message on her wall... it say ‘No need to hide, I see you already’,” I gulped and then continued, “I don’t know if it’s blood... or red paint. After we saw that, we went out and saw... the body. So then we called you.” I finished, wiping the tears in my eyes. I saw that the guy was taking notes on some paper.

“Thank you girls, we understand that you wouldn’t want to sleep here, so we booked a hotel nearby. Your room is 247, just say that and your name and you should be fine. You can leave now.” He said.

“Thank you!” I said, smiling a little.

“Let’s get our clothes.” I said to Georgia. She nodded and turned around walking towards her room.

“Are you okay to be in there?” I asked, unsure.

“I’ll just... not look at it.” She said, walking into her room.

I walked into my room, walking straight to my cupboard and grabbing a suitcase.

“That was a foolish move you did there.”

I screamed, covering my mouth as the sound came out while turning around.

“Caroline?!” I gasped.

“What?” She asked with a cheeky smile on her face.

“Where have you been?! We’ve been worried! Oh my god... have you heard what happened? Caroline, someone-“I started to tell her but she cut me off.

“I know what happened. Why are you so scared? This happened all the time back where I live.” She said.

“How can you be so calm about this?!” I questioned her angrily.

“I just told you.” She sighed, picking a strand of her hair and twirling it with her fingers.

“Caroline?”

My head snapped up.

“Hey, Georgia.” Caroline smiled.

“Does she- does she know?” Georgia stuttered.

Caroline smiled, “Of course I do. I know everything.”

“This looks nice.” I commented as I walked inside.

“It’s okay.” Caroline said, scrunching her nose.

I rolled my eyes slightly.

We put our bags near the single beds.

The room had a fluffy carpet floor, two single beds near the right side from where we were; it had the occasional rug here and there, matching the wallpaper and some of the paintings. On the other side was a TV area, with a grey, comfortable-looking couch.

“I’ll sleep on the couch.” Carrie said.

“What?” I accidently said out loud. Caroline always had the best, no matter how little it was.

She raised an eyebrow.

“It doesn’t matter.” I shrugged it off.

“Why are you being so quiet, Georgia?” Caroline asked, both eyebrows raised.

“I am still shaken up! Can you just leave us alone?!” She asked loudly.

“All I’ve done is tell you that you need to toughen up, and stop being such a coward.” She stated.

“I don’t care! I am trying to be tough and you are making it so hard!” Georgia said.

Caroline ignored her and turned around, leaving the room.

“Coming?” Caroline asked me as she arrived at the door.

I took a look towards Georgia’s direction, only to find she wasn’t there.

“Okay.” I muttered, jogging over to her.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“To where I went last night.”  She said, giving me a cheeky grin seconds after.
