4. Chapter 4

Chapter 4

“Nothing much...” I said, “My parents died.” I added before I’d chicken out.

“Oh my god? Are you okay?” She asked, sitting straight up.

“I’m fine... It happened three months ago.” I replied. “I’m fine.”

“If you don’t mind me asking... What happened?” She asked.

I took a breath, starting the story.

“About four months ago, just after my birthday, my parents went missing. No one knew what happened. I remember I was at home, Dad said they’d be home with pizza in about twenty minutes. It was about thirty minutes past then and they still weren’t there. I called them and no reply. So I called the pizza shop and asked and explained what my parents looked like. One man recognised who I was looking for; he said they left about twenty minutes ago. I hadn’t seen them since them. There were people looking for them for days, weeks.  I was worried sick. Until finally I got a call from the police saying that... that they’re bodies had been found. An animal attack they presume... But I don’t believe them. I don’t know why they be attacked by a ‘bear’ in the middle of town.” I explained. Georgia looked at me with worried eyes.

“I’m going to have a nap.” Caroline said, getting up and walking straight to her room.

Georgia and I exchanged weird looks.

“Um, alright.” Georgia said.

“That was weird.” I said.

“I know.” She replied.

“What do you want to do?” I asked, bored.

“Movie?” She asked.

“Ok, you choose.” She said. I sat down on the couch.

“Ziggy!” I cooed, clicking my fingers so our cat would come on my lap.

“What did you choose?” I asked, as she put the disc in the DVD player.

Mean Girls.” She said.

“You watched that last week?!” I said.

“It doesn’t hurt to watch it again!” She exclaimed. I rolled my eyes, while stroking Ziggy.

“Making a sandwich, want one?” She asked, walking into the kitchen.

“Yes, please!” I said, only realizing now how hungry I was.

Seeing the TV screen, I got the remote and pressed play.

“What are you putting in the sandwich?” I asked.

“Just some ham and mayo.” She replied.

“Can you add lettuce?” I asked.

“Yep.” She responded.

I watched the movie as I waited for Georgia to finish the sandwiches,

“Do you want oatmeal, Italian herbs and cheese or white?” She asked.

“Italian herbs and cheese.” I replied.

Georgia finished off my sandwich and brought them both down, attempting to take a bite out of hers as she walked.

“Thanks.” I said as she handed me mine.

We both watched in silence until Georgia broke it.

“What was up with Caroline today?” She asked.

“I don’t know.” I said.

“I’m going to check up on her.” She said.

“You’re going to miss your favourite part!” I said.

She shrugged and got up, putting her sandwich on the coffee table.

I laid back on the couch, continuing to watch the movie.

About a minute later, Georgia came back in.

“She not here?” She said.

“She probably in the toilet.” I said.

“No. I checked the whole entire house. She isn’t here at all?” Georgia said in confusion.

“CAROLINE?” I yelled.

“That’s not going to help. She isn’t in the house at all.” Georgia said, interrupting me.

“I’ll call her.” I said, taking Ziggy off my lap and walking towards the kitchen counter and grabbing my phone.

I looked though my contacts until I found Carries name. Once I found it I pressed call.

The phone started ringing.

“I can hear it down there.” Georgia said, referring to one of the rooms down the hall. We both walked down the hall and looked in Carrie’s room, where it was ringing.

Georgia held up the phone.

“Oh well, she probably just went for a walk and forgot her phone.” I said.

“Yeah, but we would have at least noticed her going out...” Georgia replied.

“I don’t know, just leave it.” I said, walking towards the lounge room.

“You forgot to pause it!” Georgia groaned.

“You already know what happens, you’ll live.” I rolled my eyes.

Carrie hadn’t come back yet, we weren’t that worried though.

“Want to order pizza for dinner, I can’t be bothered cooking?” I asked Georgia.

“Neither can I. I’ll call now.” Georgia said.

“Okay. I want Hawaiian. What are you having?” I asked.

“Ham and cheese.” She replied, taking out her phone.

I walked over to the radio player and turned it on.

“Turn it down!” Georgia said while on the phone. “Sorry...” She continued her conversation.

I turned it down a tiny bit, then I went over to the curtains and closed them, seeing as it was pitch black outside.

“Okay, pizzas ordered.” Georgia said. “You can turn it up now.” She added.

“You do it. You’re closer.” I said.

She sighed, walking over to the radio and turned it up, but as she did, all the power went out.

I screamed slightly.

“Gosh, the power just went down. I’ll get some candles.” I heard Georgia say.

“Where are you?” I asked as it was pitch black.

“In the kitchen.” She replied.

“Damn it! Where are the candles? Do we even have any?” Georgia asked.

“Weren’t they on our shopping list- Oh, I must have forgotten to get them.” I said

“Oh. Open the curtains; apparently it’s a full moon so at least we’d get some light.” Georgia said.

“No! That’s scary, you do it!” I said. Just after I said that there was a loud crash.

“Georgia, what was that?!” I asked, frozen on my spot.

The crash happened again.

I heard Georgia run towards me and pull my arm.

“Where are we going?!” I whispered.

“Shut up and let me lead.” She whisper shouted.

“Are we in your room?” I asked as we stop moving.

“Shut up!” She repeated, and pulled me down so we were crouching down. There was another crash, but luckily I had my hand over my mouth so I didn’t scream.

We were there for a few more seconds, and then the lights went on.

“Finally! That was scary, what was that sound?” I asked Georgia.

I waited for her to reply but she was staring at the wall behind me.

I turned around and gasped. On the wall was written in bright, red paint.

NO NEED TO HIDE, I SEE YOU ALREADY.
