Chapter 8: The Place With Answers

“Do you really think that this place is going to lead us to what we are seeking the most?”

“You mean; what you’re seeking the most. I and Lizzy are here for your protection”

Approaching the torn down building, most debris was covering liquids. Sticky yellow, substances over the walls; looked vile. A strong odour of burning, or something that smells a little like petrol. Most of the bars from the prison were hanging off the edge of the windows. I already doubted that there are survivors in here; yet we decided to go in to inspect the place.

“That smell is horrible; do you really think anyone survived this?”

“Well if I want to go in there Lizzy, I can go in there; either way you’re coming with me right?”

“Yes, we will be with you every step of the way”

Walking into the horrible broken down floors, small entrances where people must of tried to escape in; rather that or those savage beasts are here, I was seriously hoping there is nothing in here. Yet Lizzy found something just as I was about to say let’s go...

“Hey, I found something girls! I think it’s a map or something”

“Lizzy, that is the map around the prison; let’s try upstairs”

“Okay... well I wish you luck Rebecca, because there is no way I’m going up there”

Suddenly the floor cracks open, along with some of the ceiling collapsing. Seems like the creatures, have awoken.

“Help, Please don’t leave me Rebecca, I’m sorry for not following orders”

Lizzy was cornered, while I and Sarah were at the top of the stairs; we had to make a serious decision whether or not we can save her. Yet I don’t give up too easily, so my answer was an instant; let’s save her!

“I am going to check the cells, make sure we haven’t missed anything; sorry girls!”

“Be quick! I’m about to serve these creatures piece of my mind!”

“Rebecca, help! Help! Please...”

I dash down the stairs as quick as I can to make my way down through the broken walls. Yet from my distance, I could see that the savage Kraken’s have Lizzy surrounded. Before I could even get anywhere near where Lizzy was; there was too much destruction in the stairs; I can’t make the jump. All I have is a knife to save her with, no good for melee at this point; throwing it would not save her.

“Help, I don’t want to die!”

Standing still, thinking desperately on what I can do to save Lizzy; well the sad truth is, I couldn’t save her... it was impossible; I think she knew that too, she knew that this situation is impossible... as I stared at her, watching how vulnerable she is...

“I’m sorry Rebecca! I’m really, really sorry!”

Helpless, I could not save her... watching her from this distance did not make me feel so heroic... just so vulnerable, weak even; no chance of saving a friend... a dear friend who I now have to lose due to these savage beasts carnage. The fall would be the only thing worth taking for Lizzy, so I decided that it’s my only option... trying to get down to the ground, it was pretty high up...

Yet Lizzy was trying to make time for me to save her; she used her knife, trying not to drop it. When I had reached the middle, only half way down to where the floor is; it was insane. Yet some of the Krakens had seen me, I tried to escape. The creatures moved closer towards, while in the background; Lizzy was trying to survive with a single weapon against three of the beasts. As I tried to climb back up; the brick from underneath loosened, as I lost my grip.

Lizzy most likely watched my drop; watched me fall to the ground, I can’t imagine how she felt...

“Noooooooooooooooooooo! Rebecca!”

The last scream I heard before I hit the ground, as more debris toppled over me. My vision was knocked clean out; not sure how long I was out cold for; I managed to wake up to a ton of debris covering my eye sight. Nothing was in sight, any more sounds or screams or anything... it had taken me a while to remember what happened; yet I remembered... Lizzy, damn it...

It was so heavy, I felt that I was about to lose all faith; yet I imagined Stanley ordering me to lift the debris off me. It gave me enough strength in my belief. I seriously owe that man everything; he still saves me even when his not around... as I climbed out of the wreckage, I could see that nobody else was here. Just smoke and tons of destruction all around me; I remembered that Sarah is still upstairs.

When I looked in the direction; where I had last seen Lizzy, there was no sight of her, just more rocks piled up. Yet a riptide was in the corner where she had been standing; so I presumed the worst. Most of my muscles were tired; even my arms were aching from the collision with all of that debris. As I tried to crawl towards the start of the broken down stairs; I managed to climb a little higher. Not realizing how high those stairs once were...
