Chapter 4: The Lost Caverns

“Rebecca, if you were such a saviour; how come your family is drowning?”

“Lizzy, how the heck do you know about the drowning!”

It was insanity running through my blood; most of us get it. Stanley was one brave solider to calm our nerves down. Yet we no longer have him; we have lost a precious warrior in the eyes of a soldier. I just wanted Lizzy to calm down; I never meant for things to go this far...

“Well, I have a freaking back bone! Maybe I never used it around Kevin; yet with you I can make an exception! Your family drowned in sorrows; teach me the dance for the blood”

“Lizzy! Stop it... you’re going to destroy what we have left!”

She really couldn’t have cared of less; she seemed to be determined to break away. Lizzy did lose many family and friends though, yet we all suffered; so why is she an exception? Back at the alpha camp; we had the resources we needed. We could of just stopped there, yet Ryan an ex party member betrayed us. He led us further into more deadly traps awaiting us.

“Fine... Rebecca, I just want to get out of here okay...”

It was hard to respond to Lizzy this way; I never knew she had a knife. Threatening your own party member is pretty low. Yet I can understand why she wants to be safe, I would use a weapon too. Just not if we need to stay together, it’s the only cure for survival.

“Okay... just put the weapon down; then we can leave, leave in peace”

“Okay...  how do I know you’re not going to betray us? Like, you did back at the alpha camp!”

“You need to trust me Lizzy; it’s all we have left. Trust, friendship; it’s very dear to our hearts”

I stepped back a little further trying to give her some room; she needed to calm down. The knife in her hands was shaking so much; I could not keep a decent focus on whether or not she is going to use it. My reflex skills are my high standards, I used them to out whit Ryan back at the Alpha camp.

“Trust... friendship... this the same old crap Stanley was using on me!”

Seems that I had failed to calm her down; I saw no other way, it was rather run or fight. Either way beyond her is another innocent life that needs help. I can’t just let her stop me from saving someone. If only she had realized that Stanley saved her back at the Alpha camp.

“This weapon was crafted by my... grandfather! You know what he used it for? No! Of course you don’t, he carved his own name with blood! They said it was the podium of love. Now I have it, passed down to all of the family; wasn’t he a nice man”

“I’m sure that blade was crafted well; you need to realize this! What did he want you to use it for huh?”

“Death, he told me to us it for death... it was his own words; word for word, letter for letter”

“Wait? Why would he tell you to leave it for death?”

I managed to break her down a little; it stopped her from thinking of murdering me. I feel that one false move could end our relationship, so I needed to play my cards right.

“Well, like I said; he was a crazy grandfather...”

I wanted to ask more about her grandfather, the subject had never come up. I was wondering if it had linked to our previous encounter. Devious, that was one man who never knew what the word go meant. Why would such a man fall with no faith...?

Now that I had Lizzy back to well... normal, I realized I need to make the most of this time. Before she cracks up again; Kevin needed medication, so what if... what if... Lizzy needs medicine too. As we descended further into the boggy caverns, I heard the woman’s voice again.

“Help please! There is no-one else down here... I feel so alone...”

“Lizzy, I told you there was someone else down here. We need to find her”

“If it’s the same woman me and Kevin encountered, I don’t know if I want to find her so soon”

Lizzy lead the path for me, we had been making progress finally! We passed old torn up wires, along with some critical damage to the walls. It seemed that most of this place had fallen apart; I have no idea how this woman survived... yet she was a fighter for sure, we need as many as them as we can get. Stanley told me that, he says strong willed people are the best in the company.

“I’m alone... no one here? Well why you don’t make it your own!”

The woman was seriously mental; I could not understand her words, she was making no sense. Lizzy lifted up a larger pile of rocks, holding them up for us to pass through the tunnels. As soon as we entered the other side; lot’s of torn up cloth and fabric was piled all over the place. My first suspicion was that it had been someone’s old clothes. Or a woman who knits clothes...

“Lizzy, I just want to thank you for helping me out so far, it’s great”

“Yeah... I don’t think we should proceed any further though Rebecca”.
