The Spark

Harry simply feels like the spark is gone. That's exactly what he tells Maria, shattering her heart. But when she shows up back into his life later will he be reminded of the reasons he once loved her? Or will her fiancé stand in his way?

9. Relighting

"Just give yourself a round of applause Harry." Maria got up and began to quickly walk toward the door. Harry stood up immediately and walked out toward her. "Maria just wait." She shook her head but didn't turn to look at him as he continued walking away. "Just talk with me for a second. All you ever do is run away from anything that might hurt. I don't want to hurt you, I want to heal you." Maria turned around abruptly and shook her head smirking angrily. "Heal? Oh come one. Let's just pretend for one second that I didn't already have a fiancé healing me of the mental woulds you caused. How could I trust you to be faithful or stay? I couldn't Harry."  He licked his lips and shrugged. "I don't want to heal you with love Maria. I understand that ship had passed. But you deserve a friend that understands. That understands how broken you once were. Because believe me, I wanted to come to you because I was hurting too. I knew I had made a mistake when my mother yelled at me and then Eleanor. But I shouldn't have ever made it. You have will, which is what you deserve. But I think waisting two year of our lives is pointless. We should at least have a friendship out of it." Maria just looked at Harry for a second trying to read his face. "You are kind Harry, really. But I don't know how to be your friend." Harry stepped  a few feet closer to her and she didn't back away this time. "Let's just act like we did before we went out. Take a moment and remember that. When we were best friends." Maria and Harry had been best friends before they went out. She was always there for him when he wasn't sure if he could trust a girl. Just as Harry was there for Maria when her parents fought. For a year they were close friends. Maria had enjoyed that. She would be lying if she insisted it was nothing. "Hey Harry?" He nodded now close enough she could place her hands on his shoulder. "Yeah?" He looked at her a little hopeful and she remembered him. Not the unbelievable attractive boyfriend, the angry man, or heartbreaker. She saw the seventeen young boy just staring the career of his dreams. "Put it here." Maria put out her fist and Harry laughed hitting it and then throwing his hands in the air exclaiming  a pretend bomb that went off whenever they did it. Or more correctly a lighter flicking on when Harry wrapped his arms around her reassuringly. She accepted the hug, unknowingly also accepting the flicker of that relighted spark.
