4. Falling in Love

Stacey's POV

Saturday morning was the slowest morning I had in forever. I dragged myself out of bed and walked in the kitchen, half expecting Lily to be there. I glanced at my reflection and I looked like a total mess. What? I had a good night's sleep. I poured myself a glass of milk and sat on the table.

My phone began to ring. I groaned and stood up, looking all over to find it. Finding it under the couch pillow, I answered the call, not knowing the caller ID.

"Hello?" I mumbled and made my way back to the table.

"Hey babe."

"Hi," was all responded back.

"Did I wake you up?" Harry laughed.

"No, I woke up like two minutes ago."

"You know it's 11:30," Harry kept laughing.
"Shut up Harry. I had a goodnight's sleep."

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding," Harry said while still laughing. "But what are you doing today? Like for the last half of today."

"Uhh," I thought for a minute. Then the date immediately hit me. Our four month anniversary. I smiled. He remembered.

"Happy four months," I told him ignoring his question.

"Happy four months to yo- hey! You weren't supposed to remember! I wanted to surprise you!" Harry pouted.

My smile broke out into a laugh. "You really thought I was going to forget?"

"Well, no, not really." he said. "But I wanted you to. Anyways, I wanted to know if you wanted to go on a date tonight. My treat."

I smiled. "Yeah, I'd love to."

"And when I say my treat it's my treat, deal?"

I frowned. "Fine."

"That's my girl." He smirked.

"What time?" I asked him.

"Uh… is 6:30 okay for you?"

"It's perfect, see you then."

"Oh and babe?"

"Yeah?"
"Wear something pretty. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just comfortable and pretty." I could imagine him smiling.

"I will," I replied before hanging up and setting my phone on the table.

"So where's he taking you?" Lily walked in the kitchen and opened the fridge, making me jump.

"Lily! Don't scare me like that." I groaned.

"Are you going to answer my question or are you going to answer my question?" she asked me and poured herself a glass of milk.

I shrugged. "I don't know. But he said to wear something comfortable and pretty."

Lily smiled and sat down across from me. "He's right, you do shrug a lot."

"What?"

"Harry. We were talking the other day, and he told me you shrug a lot. Out of the blue. He was like, 'Do you count how many times Stacey shrugs a day?' And you do shrug a lot. He talks to me about you all the time. He won't ever shut up Stacey, he won't ever. Niall even complains to me because he won't ever shut up about you."

I bit my lip and smiled. "Really?"

Lily nodded. "He really likes you Stacey. He really, really likes you. Niall says he got it bad."

"I really like him too," I said after a while, not particularly to her.

"Aw, my little Stacey's falling in love!" she exclaimed and laughed.

I shot her a look but I couldn’t help from smiling. Falling in love. Is that really what was happening to me?

"Falling in love! It's such an easy thing to do.." Lily began to sing the theme song for 'Secret Life.' She stood up and put her cup in the sink.

"Lily stop singing that stupid song!" I covered my ears with my hand.

"Let's fall in love!" She screamed the last part. I stood up and shoved her. "Lily please, that's annoying. Plus you can't sing. So shut up."

She laughed in response. "You're telling me I have a terrible voice when you're the one singing like a goat in your sleep."

I give her a confuse look. "What?"

She laughed harder. "You sing like a goat in your sleep. Oh dear I'm so funny! But I'm not kidding," she calmed down. "One time a few months ago, you were singing in your sleep. Damn I should've recorded you. Wait, I think I did! It's probably in some SD card or something back home."

"Like a goat?"

"Well, I mean, during the day you do sing like a goat, but you were just mumbling some High School Musical song. It was the best thing I've ever witnessed."

"And you've never told me this because..?" I was 100% she was making this up.

She shrugged. "I don't know, I was going to that morning, but then I decided not to. I don't know why, that's a good question."

"Yeah," I chuckled. "Says the one who made this whole thing up. Hey, I'm got to go take a shower."
"Stacey! I'm not kidding! That really happened!" she defended herself.

"We'll discuss this later Lily." I laughed and headed to the bathroom.

"Hey Lily?" I sat next to her on the couch. I finished getting ready for tonight. I wore my floral dress and Sperry's; it was nothing extravagant, just as Harry asked me.

"Aw, you look so pretty!" she put her phone aside.

"Is it okay? Do I look okay?" I looked down at my dress.

"Stop freaking out! Of course it's okay! You look gorgeous Stace. Anyways what do you need?"

"Can I ask you something?" I cross my legs on the couch.

She nodded and motioned me to continue.

"What does it feel like to be in love?"

Her mouth dropped open and Lily Hunter squealed. And when I say Lily Hunter squealed, I become deaf. Deaf for the next million years of my life. Lily jumped across the couch and hugged me. Or should I say tackled me.

"My little baby's falling in love! She's falling in love!" she screamed for joy. She pulled back and shook my shoulders. "You're falling in love! Wait? But aren't you already in love with Harry? I mean you have been for the past who knows how long, like what, a few months?" she began to talk to herself but turned her attention back to me. "But you're falling in love for real!"

I shoot her a look and rubbed my ears. "I just asked you a simple question Lily."

She smiled. "I know. But you're falling in love! Or you're in love! Either or that's just amazing! Oh Stacey whens the wedding? I'm your maid of honor right? I mean who am I kidding, of course I am. I am your best friend, right? Ooh what are the theme colors going to be? IT should be pur-"

"Lily." I stopped her and smiled. "If anyone should be getting married in the next year, it's you and your lover. I'm pretty sure you fell in love back in middle school, or probably way before that." I told her.

"Shut up Stacey." Lily smiled.

I shrugged. "So, when are you going to answer my question?"

"What question? Oh yeah! Falling in love is the worst feeling in the world like you have knives stabbing your chest."
"What."

"Well, that's not a really nice way to put it in, but that's what it feels like. But let me put it this way, in a better form. You get to the point where it well-, how am I supposed to explain this?" She sighed and leaned back on the couch.

"Do you get like tingles in your stoma-"

"Yes!" She stood up and raised her hands in the air. "You get an extreme case of butterflies, right?"

I nodded.

She smiled. "Oh, you're falling in love. You're in love. And I think you got it bad," she said stressing on the 'in.'

"Falling in love!" she sang out again.

I was going to tell her to shut up, but the doorbell ringing does the job for me. Lily's face glowed and she covered her mouth with her hands. I stood up and warned her.  "Don't you even think about it Lily Hunter. I will literally murder you."

"Falling in love," she mischievously smiled and sang softly. I covered her mouth with my hand and begged her. "Please Lily."

She rolled her eyes and agreed. "Fine," she mumbled and licked my hand.

"You're disgusting!" I groaned and wiped my hand on her shirt. She smirked and beat me to the door.

"Hi Harry!" she said excitedly and opened the door for him to walk in.

"Hi Lily, you seem a bit excited."

"Well, life's going great, so I guess I could be happy." She said, smiling. I shot her a look but she ignored it.

I rolled my eyes and walked up to the two of them. "Okay Lily thanks for opening the door, you're done here." I told her and pushed her away. Harry shook his head, laughing.

"But you guys need a picture first." She pouted.

"Yeah Stacey we need a picture first." Harry mimicked her. Lily flashed a smile at me and grabbed her phone off the counter and pushed me to Harry's direction. Harry smiled and pulled me close, wrapping his arms around me.

"Seriously. Y'all are cute." Lily smiled mischievously and snapped a few pictures.

"So where are we going?" I asked Harry as we walked out of the elevator. He took my hand in his and led me to his car. He kept quiet and opened the car door for me. I saw him smirking as he got in from the other side.

"So are you going to answer my question or not?" I crossed my arms over my chest. He smiled at me and turned on the car, not making a sound.

"Harry."

Still no answer.

"Oh Harry!" I waved my hand in his face trying to get his attention.

Still no answer. He drove out of the parking lot and was still silence.

"Harry."

"Stacey." Harry mocked.

"Are you going to answer my question?"

"Nope!" Harry flashed his smile and laughed. I glared at him and leaned back on my chair. Every few minutes I would glance at him, but nothing would have changed. He kept his focus on the road and that smirk of his wouldn’t leave his face. He casually turned on the radio and sang along.

"You know, in a few weeks, they're going to be playing my song." Harry smiled. "My beautiful song that people will know by "Live While We're Young!" Harry sung.

"Who told you it was beautiful?"
He shrugged. "It's not as beautiful as you, but it's a beautiful song."

I smiled. Harry turned to face me and poked my cheek. "Aw, you're blushing!"

"Harry stop, eyes on the road." I playfully slapped him. "Are we almost there yet?"

Harry shrugged again but kept that smirk on his face. "I don't know, are we?"

"I think you know the answer. Not me."

"Oh really?"

I glared at him in response. Harry's laugh rang out in the car. "I'm just kidding babe. We're almost there. A few more minutes," he said and rested his left hand on my knee.

"You're not mad at me, are you?" Harry stuck out his bottom lip. I looked at him like he was crazy, but it was my turn to laugh. Harry smiled. "See babe? You can never be mad at me."

Ten minutes later, Harry finally drove his car into a parking lot that belonged to a small little diner. 'Cherie's Diner' was written on the front of the pastel painted building.

"Is this place okay?" Harry asked me nervously.

I smiled and squeezed his hand. "It's perfect."

"I know you don't really like fancy places and I didn't want you to be your little angry sarcastic self even though it's cute and I remembered a time when I came here with my famil-"

I moved across the car and kissed him. "How many times do I have to tell you it's perfect and I love it?"

"You really like it?"

I nodded. "It's cute. Just like you."

He smirked and kissed me again. "Hey, I'm not cute. You're cute. Come on, let's go eat." I was about to open my car door when Harry shrieked at me to not. He slammed his door shut and ran to my side of the door. I sighed and rolled my eyes. Harry opened the door for me. "M'lady." He held out his hand for me.

I laughed and got out. "You little clichéd cheeseball."

"But you like it," he smirked.

"Of course I do."

After Harry paid for the dinner, he grabbed my hand and led me outside. He didn’t lead me to his car; he led me to the park not far away. The weather was nice and cool, much nicer than a September night back in Houston.

"You're cold?"

I shook my head. "No, I'm fine."

Harry smiled and wrapped his arms around me. "What if I'm cold?" he smirked.

I giggled and leaned in him. "You're warm," I told him. He tightened his arms around me. "You're cute." He smiled and kissed my head.

I smiled as he let go of me and walked to the big tree and sat down. He patted the spot next to me and I cuddled next to him.

"Are you sure you're not cold?" Harry said and wrapped his arm around me.

I nodded and brought my knees closer. "I'm fine."

It was quiet for the next few minutes; none of never said a word.

"Are they hurting you?" Harry's whisper broke the silence.

It took me a minute to realize that he was asking about. "The fans?"

He nodded. "Yeah. Them."

I shrugged. "I don't really pay attention to them. But it's okay. I'm okay."

He stayed silent for a minute. "You're keeping your promise, right? About not letting the hate get to you, and that all they're saying is lies and nothing of that is true and that I love you and that they're just jealous because they don't realize that I'm a lucky guy for dating you," he spilled out everything. I didn't stop him; it was actually a bit funny, but the sweetest thing I've heard.

"Harry, listen to me," I turned to face him. "I'm fine. I promise you. Here," I held out my pinky. "We pinky promised, remember?"

He nodded and interlocked his pinky with mine. "Of course. I just wanted to know if you're keeping it."

"I am."

He smiled and stood up. "That's my girl. Oh, wait here for a second. I have to go get something."

Minutes later he came back with a purple bag and a bigger smile on his face. He sat down and handed it to me. "Happy four months."

I looked at him. "I did-"

He covered my mouth with his hand before I could continue. "That's how I wanted it to go. I get you a present and you get me nothing. Because you're my present."

I pouted.

He laughed. "I know what you're going to say. I know I paid for dinner, and I don’t care. It's my treat to you."

I couldn't help but smile.

"So you'll open the present?" His face lit up.

I nodded and shrugged. I took his hand off my mouth. "I will."

I opened the bag and took out the tissue paper. I pulled out a teddy bear holding a bag of sour patch on its lap and a card. My face lit instantly when it saw the candy, and Harry smirked. "I knew you'd go crazy."

I opened up the card and smiled. Inside there was my M&G picture from the concert, but everyone else was cropped out except me and Harry.

Stacey,

You don’t know how happy it makes me to know that I know you, and that I get to call you mine. I'm happy to be that lucky boy. Happy four months baby, and I hope we have many, many more to come. Thank you for being an amazing girlfriend.

Love, Harry xx

"I didn't even write you a card." I mumbled and hugged my boyfriend. He chuckled. "It doesn't matter. Your face says it all."

I backed away and smiled. "Where do you get all your clichéd lines from?"

Harry gave me an offended look. "They're original!"

I laughed and shook my head. "Really?"

Harry stared at me for a few seconds before replying, "Well duh, of course."

I laughed even louder and playfully punched him. "Stop lying."

"I'm not! Now open the present." He quickly changed the subject. I took the little leather box out of the bag and opened it.

In it was a sparkly silver necklace in the shape of an 'H.'

"Lily told me that you're in love with High School Musical and I watched it recently and Troy gave Gabriella the 'T' necklace and I thought that-"

"You could get me the same but with an 'H.'" I finished for him.

He looked up from the floor and smiled. "Yeah, like that."

"It's beautiful, thank you."

Harry beamed and hugged me.

"And thank you for being the best boyfriend ever."

"And thank you," he replied. "For making me happy."

"Bye babe, I'll talk to you later." Harry hugged and kissed me.

"Thank you for tonight," I said.

He smiled and headed for the elevator. "Anytime. Goodnight."

"Goodnight." I said, and as soon as he was out of sight, I leaned on the door and smiled. I replayed our conversation in my head. I replayed the whole night. If only every night was like this, than life would be perfect. I opened the door and closed it behind me, and something hit me. It smacked me like a truck.

Lily squealed when she saw me and she bombarded me with questions. "How was it? Where did he take you? Did he get you a present? Wait, are you okay? What happened? Oh my god do I need to go kill him? You look like a ghost Stacey. What happened?"

I shook my head.

"…all they're saying is lies and nothing of that is true and that I love you and that they're jealous because they don't realize that I'm a lucky guy for dating you."

I looked up at her and a smile broke out on my face. "He told me he loves me. He loves me."
