21. Chapter 19

"Why can't we ever get a break?" Peyton mumbled as the four of them made their way back to Colton's house. They all knew that whoever was there, going through Colton's house, was probably gone by now--so they took their time.

Colton kept complaining about how his head hurt, one minute, and then the next he was planning what he was going to do to the robbers. It was starting to get annoying, but nobody called him out on it because he'd probably beat them up.

Ryan didn't complain once, about anything. In fact, Peyton noticed how quiet he's been and she wondered if there was something wrong. Even if there was, he would still deny it, so she kept her distance from him.

Justin, however, seemed high. He was laughing at everything as they walked. Sometimes he'd go up to Colton and flick his head to make him mad, and then he'd go back to Peyton, pick her up, spin her around, and kiss every inch of her face. It was pretty scary but reassuring at the same time. At the moment, he seemed pretty calm--almost like he was going into protective mode because they were getting closer to Colton's house. The one thing that Peyton was really surprised about, though, was the fact that he didn't care that Colton totaled his Range Rover.

"You okay?" Justin asked her, breaking her out of her reverie.

She squeezed his hand and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine, don't worry about me. It'll be fine."

He raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure something's not bothering you?"

"Okay, just making sure."

"I know."

They walked in silence until they finally reached Colton's house. Nothing seemed out of place, except for the fact that the door was open. Otherwise, it seemed completely normal.

But everything changed when they walked in.

There was shattered glass everywhere. The kitchen door was swinging on its hinges, and the couch was flipped over. Sitting on top of the couch was a kid that Peyton's never seen before. Sitting next to him was another kid--probably about nineteen or twenty, drinking a beer. They studied the four of them with smirks on their faces.

"Who the fuck are you?" Colton threw his hands up with exasperation, as if to say: Why is everybody interested in what I'm doing all of a sudden?

The older-looking kid stood up. "We've met before." He said as he pointed at Colton and Peyton. With a jolt, Peyton realized that this was probably Dakota. "And you left a little unexpectedly, Justin." He glared at Justin, who's jaw was starting to tighten, as well as his grip on Peyton's hand.

"What is he talking about, Justin?" Peyton asked.

Justin let go of her hand hastily and shook his head. "I don't know."

Peyton frowned and crossed her arms. The other kid, presumably Cooper, came and took his place next to Dakota. The six of them all studied each other; Dakota occasionally glancing at Colton in a weird way, before Colton spoke up--as if on cue.

"You know," He licked his lips. "I always thought that Dakota was a girl's name. I mean, you look like a girl, with those freckles and that hair. Damn, that hair is just--girly."

Dakota scowled. "Don't flatter me, lover boy."

"Don't call me lover boy." Colton countered.

"Then don't call me a girl."

Cooper motioned for them to stop. "Girls, girls, calm down." He smirked. "As much fun as manipulating you three has been," He pointed three fingers at Justin, Ryan, and Peyton. "I think that Colton should introduce us properly."

Colton raised an eyebrow. "But haven't you met? I mean, we all know your names. Cooper and Dakota."

"Yes," Dakota said impatiently. "but do they know who we really are?"

"No." Colton muttered.

"Then, please, introduce us." Cooper said.

Colton sighed and pushed his way over to stand next to Dakota and Cooper. Peyton thought she heard him mutter something like, It was more fun to act, but she must have imagined it. Justin grabbed her hand again, which she was thankful for. Colton held out his hands like a magician presenting the final result of a magic tricks.

"Peyton, Justin, and Ryan. I, Colton, am genuinely sorry for the lies and the inconveniences," He smirked, trying to contain laughter. "Actually I'm not." He burst out laughing for a moment before calming down. "Okay, okay, I'm done laughing. I'd like to introduce you to my little brothers, Dakota and Cooper Prezlocki."
