2: Shadows

Peyton is done being depressed. It's been four years since her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, was shot by a guy named Colton--and now, all she wants to see is Colton, dead. Though, the familiar shadows are distracting her, because they all remind her of her boyfriend. What happens when she finds out that she was right, all along? And what happens when more shadows get into the picture? © 2013 by beliebervision. All Rights Reserved.

13. Chapter 12

Ryan really wanted to visit Samantha in the hospital, but he decided against it--since they still had some tension between them. Peyton couldn't blame him for wanting to visit her. And she could understand that they'd still have some loose ties; because when you haven't seen someone in years, you get a little mad.

Peyton sat in the front of the car again, so she could comfort Ryan. Even though Justin had been his best friend longer, she assumed that he didn't know how to make him feel better.

"It's alright, we'll find a way to get everything to work out again." Peyton said as she rubbed Ryan's back.

He shrugged. "I know. But when I see you and Justin after not being together for so long, you guys are just fine. So why can't we be just fine? She's probably actually dead by now."

"Justin and I are anything but fine. It's the weirdest relationship I've ever been in and I don't even understand what's happening most of the time. Yes, I love him but it's hard to do that when he's such an ass sometimes."

Ryan nodded. "Can you get out so he can come up here?"

Peyton was somewhat taken aback, but she agreed anyways. It's just, she didn't bother getting in the car again. She started walking towards the hotel--which wasn't burning anymore. She heard Justin calling her name, telling her to get back to the car, but she didn't want to listen. She figured that if she gave Ryan and him enough alone time to talk, she'd have enough time to actually do something for once.

Authorities were still scattered around the edges of the building. Peyton knew that she wouldn't be able to just walk into the hotel, but she had a feeling that she could find something behind it. She rounded the far left corner of the building without being seen by anybody, thankfully.

She didn't see anybody, either. Just some trash cans and some police cars. She decided to make another turn to the back, and as she turned the corner she ran into somebody.

"Oh my gosh, I'm sorry." She said. But she regretted it as soon as they turned around. Her eyes grew wide and she gasped, bringing a hand to her mouth as she did so.

"Watch where you're going, Peyton." Colton smirked. "I never thought that this was how we'd meet again."

Justin gave up on trying to make Peyton come back to the car. She obviously wasn't going to listen to him, and the thought that Ryan would rather talk to him than talk to her at the moment, probably made her angry. So he let her do her thing for a little bit while he climbed into the passenger seat of the car.

Ryan smiled at him. His eyes were kind of puffy, and they had shadows under them--indicating that Ryan was probably more tired than he's ever been.

"Hey," Justin said.

Ryan nodded. "Hi."

"Everything good?"

"It's alright. I never planned to spend my time coming on this trip just to kill someone. Well, just to let Peyton kill someone. I'm sorry, by the way. I know you didn't expect it either, and she would've gone crazy knowing that Colton's still alive somewhere."

"Somewhere." Justin repeated. "Who knows where he could be now? And it's not a big deal, I wasn't really there for her."

"No, you weren't." Ryan confirmed.

Justin shrugged. "Do you think I should go get her now?"

"Leave her alone for now, I think she's already used up her niceness on you today. She'll probably lash out if you try to talk to her."

"How do you know that?" Justin asked.

Ryan licked his lips and looked out the windshield. "It happens a lot. I'm assuming that you guys didn't get much sleep."

"Nah," Justin ran a hand through his hair and kept it there. "I mean we would fall asleep for an hour and both wake up again. Nothing special."

"Peyton's not going to want to have sex with you, even if she does keep convincing herself that she loves you still." Ryan stated bluntly.

Justin thought about this. He never really wanted to pressure Peyton into doing anything like that, even if she was willing. But was she really convincing herself that she loves him? Or did she really love him? "I guess." Was all he said, though.

They sat in silence, both thinking about most likely--girl problems. After a significant amount of time, Ryan sat up abruptly and smacked Justin in the arm, telling him to look where he was pointing. Justin sat up and squinted, trying to get a good look.

There was a big black car driving out of the parking lot, with an Ontario license plate on it.

"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Ryan said as he started the engine.

"Colton?" Justin suggested, to which Ryan nodded. "But what about Peyton?"

Ryan considered this. He drove around to where she last was--she wasn't there. Justin started to panic as they made a full round of the building and found Peyton nowhere.

"Dude what if he has her?" Justin tried to get out of the car. Ryan stopped him.

"Calm down," He said. "We can still follow him, I can still see him."

Justin sat back in his chair and closed his eyes, hoping that nothing bad was happening to Peyton at the moment.

"Well I never signed up to see you again," Peyton spat. "Murderer." She tried to make it sound like Justin was still dead, even though he wasn't.

Colton continued to smirk. "Feisty, eh?"

"Shut up."

He waved a hand at her. "Ah, whatever. It's still nice to see that, still-beautiful face of yours. It's been a while."

Peyton fought off the urge to kick him where the sun didn't shine.

"I know," He started but apparently decided against it. "Never mind that. How about we catch up? We can talk at my place, and I promise not to pull anything dangerous. I would never hurt a girl...physically that is." He grinned evilly, probably thinking about how much he'd hurt her mentally by 'killing' Justin.

"I'd rather get back to Ryan." She said. Suddenly she realized that it was probably too much.

"Ooh, Ryan's with you? Which one?" Colton looked around. He didn't have to stand on his tip-toes or anything, since he was much taller than Peyton. She noticed how much darker his brown hair looked. And it looked strikingly similar to the way Justin always spiked his hair up, except it wasn't like a quiff kind of thing, it was more like naturally spiked up. He definitely looked older now, even though he was only about twenty-three years old. One year older than Peyton. Same age as Justin.

"Butler." She said finally, though she was still caught up in noticing how good looking Colton had come to be. He smiled at her, probably the most genuine smile she'd ever seen him give.

"Nice." He said, sticking his hands into his pockets. Surprisingly, he sounded like a normal guy that she'd hang out with. "He wont mind if you just stay for a little bit?" He almost sounded like he was pleading. "That is, if you're not still mad at me..."

Peyton frowned. "I...I'm not mad at you."

"Good." He held out one of his hands and Peyton reluctantly took it in hers. "Shall we go then?"

She smiled and said, "Alright, let's go."
