10. Chapter 10

Chapter 10:

A/N: Day 2 of the 30 Day OTP Challenge- cuddling somewhere. Now I saw on the prompt blog for thfrustration about Tom camping so thought I would incorporate it into this chapter. Based on the following picture and gif.

It didn’t take long for Jenni to settle into her new life living with Tom.

The morning after her graduation Tom came and helped her pack up her things and move them to his house.

They spent a fair amount of time on the floor of what was now Jenni`s old flat sorting out the things she really needed to bring with her and the things that weren’t of any sentimental value and could be chucked away. They also sat and talked about old times as they found a lot of old photos of them growing up.

“Remember when we went camping?” he asked her.

She laughed before replying. “In theory Tommy, we never actually went camping, it was more a picnic in your living room in what can hardly be called a tent, more a heap of cushions and blankets” she remarked.

“If I remember rightly though, Miss Otto you were never really one to go outside what with your fear of spiders and what not. I remember quite clearly how you called me over just to pick a spider up off your bedroom floor.”

“What can I say; I was scared of spiders at seven years old. If I remember correctly you at the age of ten were and still are afraid of sharks”

“Don’t judge, there big and scary with big pointy teeth. Can you really blame me?”

“No, I guess not.”

“So if you’re no longer afraid of spiders, let’s go camping”

A month later Jenni came home from an evening shift at the restaurant to find Tom waiting for her with a blindfold in his hand. Before she could even mutter a `hello` or a `what are you playing at Tom` she was told to go upstairs and get changed into her pajamers.

“I am tired but I kind of wanted to spend some time with you before I go to bed”

“You will, darling. Just go and get changed then meet me back down here. I have a surprise for you”

Jenni done as she was told and went upstairs and changed into her frilly polka dot pajamers before going to find Tom who was still waiting at the bottom of the stairs, blindfold in hand. He came up behind her placing it over her eyes.

“Do you trust me?”

“Completely”

With that Tom walked Jenni through the hall and kitchen to the back garden. Jenni couldn’t believe her eyes when the blindfold was removed.

The back garden had been decorated with fairy lights and candles with a tent situated in the middle.

“Tom what’s all this?” she asked.

“Camping” he replied. “Go make yourself comfortable inside and I’ll bring you your dinner”

Jenni obliged opening up the zip of the tent and stepping inside. Blankets and cushions had been placed on the floor of the tent to make it more cosy and comfortable. Jenni couldn’t help but chuckle. He was trying to recreate their heap of blankets and cushions which Tom had called a tent back when he was ten. Bless him.

Tom came back a few moments later baring two bowls of his famous spaghetti bolognaise.

“Now I know ive kind of slacked in the camping aspect and that camping is meant to be out in the woods somewhere but this was all I could come up within a short space of time, plus there aren’t many woods in London. I promise I’ll take you camping properly at some point but for now, I hope this makes up for it”

Jenni mentally swooned. She couldn’t believe how sweet he was. She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. “This is perfect Tommy, Thankyou”

He smiled kissing her forehead before telling her to eat up.

The friends spent the rest of the evening in the tent talking and reminiscing about their childhood.

“Remember when we sat outside for lunch at school and we weren’t allowed to sit next to each other so we each said to our teachers that we were going to the toilet when really we went and ate our lunch together under the tree near the assembly hall?”

He nodded. “And then I laced my fingers through yours. Like this” he laced his fingers through hers, there thumbs opposite each other. “And we told each other secrets?” she nodded cuddling up to him and moving her thumb over his knuckles relishing in the feeling of how big his hands were compared to hers just like she had done all those years ago.

“Tell me a secret”

“Tell me a secret”

“My sister’s nickname for me is broom” she laughed messing up his curls.

“Tell me a secret”

“I sleep with a blanket Ive had since I was born.” Jenni looked down at the grass beginning to pick the daisies. She had never told anyone that before. Tom rubbed her knuckles with his hand. “You shouldn’t be embarrassed, it’s sweet” she smiled resuming playing secrets before the bell signalled for them to go back inside.

“I love how big your hands are compared to mine”

“You’re my best friend. I’d much rather spend time with you than playing football with boys.

“Id much rather spent time with you than with the other girls. All they talk about is their barbies”

“All boys talk about is climbing trees”

“I guess were alike in the fact that we like the same things”

“Is that a good thing?”

“It’s a very good thing. I’m so glad I met and became friends with you Jen Otto”

“And I, you Tommy Hiddleston”

The bell rang signalling they had to go back to class.

“We best get back before we get told off and the teacher wonders we were are”

“Yeah” she agreed grabbing his outstretched hand as they ran back across the grass and down the steps back to lesson.

“I miss how everything used to be”

“I miss our childhood”

“I regret leaving you to go to Eton”

“I regret not coming to your nans funeral”

“That was my fault for not telling you, Jen. It was a long time ago.”

“I know but I still should have been there”

“Lets just thank god that we’ve been bought back together. That were being given another chance” she nodded leaning her head into the crook of his neck. She shivered. Not from being cold, more from being this close to him. She longed to kiss his neck but refrained.

“Are you cold?” he asked her wrapping a blanket around them.

“A bit” she lied.

“Do you want to go back inside? She shook her head no. “What’s the point in saying were camping if were not going to stay out all night. Plus you went to all this trouble, all for me”

“I’d do anything for you, Jen”

“And I’d do anything for you too. You’re my best friend” He’s more than that

“And you’re mine” She’s more than that too.

“I’m so glad I met you and that you’re back in my life, Jen”

“I’m glad your back in mine too, Tommy. Please don’t leave again”

“I promise”

“I love you Jen”

“I love you too, Tommy”

She cuddled up to him closer resting her head on his chest listening to his heartbeat. If only she knew that it beated only for her.

Jenni fell asleep listening to the sounds of her best friend’s voice quoting Shakespeare and the sound of his heartbeat. She had missed this. Missed being near him and falling asleep next to him.

Tom soon joined Jenni in the world of dreams by listening to the sound of his Jen`s light breathing and the faint sound of the owl’s letting the world know they were awake.

Tom was awoken by the sound of the birds near his flat and the sunlight streaming through the window of the tent.

He couldn’t help but smile at the sight in front of him. His best friend cuddled up to him, her mouth slightly ajar and her head resting on his chest, just like she had been when she first fell asleep.

No matter how much he didn’t want to move, his bladder couldn’t hold any longer and his tummy was in need of food. He quietly unwrapped Jenni`s hands from his body, putting a blanket over her to keep her warm. She stirred but didn’t wake as she turned over onto her side.

Tom took one last glance at her before slowly unzipping the tent and going back inside to use the toilet and get changed. He then went into the kitchen and started working on a fried breakfast. Bacon, sausages, beans, eggs and fried bread with tea. Perfect.

Once the breakfast was prepared he carefully made his way outside carrying two plates complete with breakfast and two cups of tea on a tray.

Jenni stirred at the sound of the tent zipper being opened. She didn’t need to be fully awake to like and appreciate what she saw in the entrance to the tent. Yes, the fried breakfast her best friend was carrying looked rather nice, but she liked the sight of her best friend shirtless even more and that worried her. Now she was even more in love with him and she couldn’t tell him.
