24. Guard Duty

“Umm. Ok?” I reply giving him a confused look. He continued to smirk as Ms. Smith walked up handing me a bag.

“This is your uniform go put it on and I will give you your gun.” She told me sternly. She is all business now and there is no hint of the kind lady from earlier. I grabbed the bag out of her hand. I looked up at Louis who I now noticed is in all black like Harry and Liam were earlier.

“Um where should I change?” I asked slightly afraid she would flip on me.

“There’s a bathroom down that hall to the left hurry along now you don’t have much time.”

I grabbed my bag and continued down the hall to the restroom. The uniform consisted of black pants, high black boots, a black t-shirt, and aviator sunglasses. I noticed she included some dark makeup that I should put on probably to look more intimidating. I drew a line of eyeliner around my eye and applied some mascara, making my eyes darker then usual. I let my hair out of its ponytail and it fell in waves. I took one last look in the mirror before heading out of the bathroom. I looked intimidating and kind of hot. Slightly impressed with my appearance I reached the lobby with more confidence then usual, which probably made me look more intimidating. As I walked out Louis’ mouth dropped and Ms. Smith smiled.

“Very good. I got the gun you came here with since I know you know how to use it already and reloaded it.” She handed me the gun. “And here’s a bag with bullets in it in case of an emergency.” She handed me the bag next, also black which fit over my shoulder. “Any questions? No? Then out you go. Mr. Tomlinson will explain the protocol.” She smiled and turned away leaving me alone with Louis who walked out the front door to the danger outside. It was quiet outside and no one was insight, all the barricades doing their job.

“Alright so we just stand by the door and protect the fort. If there is a commotion we will call on reinforcements, shut down the hotel and wait, which is what happened when you and your friend arrived.”

“Dylan.” I corrected him.

“Ya Dylan.” We stayed silent for a while, just the wind blowing past us making whistling sounds through the buildings.

“So what did you want to talk to me about?” I asked Louis, breaking the silence.

“Nothing really.” He replied trailing off and looking away. We stayed in silence for longer before Louis spoke again. “What happened between you and Harry last night?”

“What?” I asked confused and started coughing, choking on my own spit. Wow

Autumn that’s super cool. “He didn’t tell you?” Maybe it didn’t mean as much to him as it did to me. Maybe Sam was wrong.

“No. He walked into our room and just lay down. He seemed overly confused yet happy but like scared if that makes any sense. He walked in and like kept trying to hide a smile but would like think for a minute and run his hand through his hair and sigh.” He answered looking over at me. “Whatever you’re thinking please don’t hurt him.”

“Me? Hurt him?” I laughed. “You should be more worried about him hurting me since that’s been the regular pattern on this trip.”

“Ya I know he told me, but he cares for you Autumn and I don’t want you to play around with him. He’s too nice of a guy for that.” He looked at me sternly. He does care for me. Maybe he is smitten. I looked at the ground and smiled.

“Nope. Again, he’s the one who plays around with people. I’m not like that.”

“Good. Maybe he chose a good one this time.”

“You did not just use chose and good one in the same sentence. I’m not some prize to be won.” I glared at him.

“Wow you really are feisty.” Louis laughed. “So you still haven’t told me what happened.”

“You can ask your friend about that ok?” I laughed along with Louis.

“Fine fair enough.” He smiled. “So how do you feel about him then?”

“Louis! You’re just as bad as Sam!” I exclaimed covering my face with my hands.

“Come on something has to come out of this afternoon.”

“I am not going to tell you that because I have no idea how I feel.”

“Is that good or bad.”

“Good I think.” I paused. Why I find myself comfortable enough to blab my feelings to random strangers I will never know.

“Well good.” Louis smiled. The sun had begun to set over the buildings and two more guards came out taking our places. We went in and Louis showed me where the gun case was. I placed my gun inside with the satchel of bullets. I didn’t take off my uniform though because damn did I look fantastic. Louis didn’t either though so it wasn’t that weird.

“Lets eat.” Louis smiled and we walked towards the cafeteria. We grabbed our food and made our way towards the table in the back. Everyone was sitting down and Dylan was too, which was a pleasant surprise. He looked up as I walked over doing a double take at my appearance.

“Damn girl do you ever look hot.” Dylan smiled, winking at me. Harry turned around and saw me causing his eyes to widen and for him to drop his fork. He quickly apologized picking it up and continued to look at me. Sam looked up too and gave me an approving nod as did everyone else.

“Well thanks that’s just how I do.” I winked back at Dylan and sat beside Harry. The dinner conversation started up again which consisted of questions asking me about my first couple of days here. I answered all of their questions and joined in after the topic changed. I was starting to fit in here and it was perfect. During dinner Harry grabbed my hand under the table and rubbed circles on the back of my hand throughout dinner. I literally didn’t stop smiling all through dinner and when we all stood up to leave I missed the calming presence of his hand.

“Come with me.” Harry whispered in my ear as everyone was leaving towards the lounge. He grabbed my hand again and pulled me to the elevator hitting the button for the roof. The door opened and I could see all around the city. Despite all of the destruction all the lights still took my breath away. I walked towards the railing around the top looking over.

“Beautiful huh?” Harry asked coming to stand beside me.

“Ya. I can’t believe in all this chaos and hate in the world it can still look so beautiful.” I replied softly. We stood in silence for a while just enjoying each other’s company.

“Harry we..” I started turning to Harry but I was greeted with his lips being slammed against mine.

I greedily kissed him back as he pulled me closer to him. Our mouths started moving in sync as his tongue touched my bottom lip asking for entry. I tangled my hands in his hair again tugging at the roots causing him to groan.

“Jump.” He whispered and I obeyed wrapping my legs around his waist as he pushed me against the wall.

“Damn I’ve been wanting to kiss you all day.” He growled between trailing kisses along my neck and collarbone leaving me speechless. He didn’t expect me to say much as I pulled him back up to my lips. I ran my hands down his abs causing him to groan out my name again. Everywhere he touched me and kissed me I could feel him leave a trail of fire behind. His hands roamed my body earning a moan from me. He smirked under the kiss and yet still continued. That cheeky little bastard. We made out for who knows how long before he finally kissed me softly on the lips letting me stand on my own.

“You really shouldn’t be legally allowed to wear that outfit.” He growled again wrapping his arm around me.

“Why too much for you to handle.” I flirted.

“Ya and too hot for other guys to see I don’t want the looking at what’s mine.” He sighed. He just called me his.

“Hey hey hey now. I don’t belong to anybody.”

“I know I just want your heart to belong to me.”

“Well don’t worry I don’t see anyone but you.” I smiled. He looked down at me shocked, like he didn’t expect me to say anything back. He kissed me softly again on the lips and pulled me to the elevator.

“Come on everyone’s going to be wondering where we went.”
