25. Decisions

As we walked to the elevator Harry linked his hand with mine as we walked. It was another moment of normal that I wasn’t expecting and it felt so right it took my breath away. He felt so right. He took my breath away. As we walked he would look down at me and give me a shy smile, which I gladly reciprocated. We walked into the lounge where everyone was waiting and we received wolf whistles and other comments at the sight of our joined hands. Harry glared at his friends and I rolled my eyes. Everyone was sitting on couches and chairs that were placed in a circle and they didn’t seem to have been doing much except talking.

Harry pulled me to one of the chairs and he sat down pulling me onto his lap. I smiled up at him and he joined in the conversation. Throughout his conversation he would rub circles in my leg and occasionally lean in and kiss the side of my head. With him distracted, I took a moment to survey everyone’s reaction. Mostly everyone gave me a small smile but kept talking, not really caring that I was on his lap. I got a nice eyebrow dance from Sam and a shimmy, which I answered with a look and a flick off. She laughed and blew me a kiss and I rolled my eyes. Next I looked at Louis who had a neutral expression but gave me a big smile when he noticed me looking.

“I need all guard patrol to report to the conference room immediately. I repeat all guard control.” I hear Ms. Smith’s voice over the intercom. They have an intercom?

Everyone in our group exchanged glances and made our way towards the conference room. This room hadn’t been changed much and everyone took a seat. I sat in between Harry and Sam. More people filled in that I didn’t recognize and other people in suits and ties joined Ms. Smith at the front of the room.

“Ok everyone listen up.” Ms. Smith stated with authority ringing in her voice. “We have received some news that we need to make a decision about. We would make it alone but a group of you would need to be a part of the mission and seeing what it is a group decision needs to be made.” She paused surveying all of our reactions. “The information has come to our attention that there is a cure.” Gasps filled the room and some people started to whisper amongst themselves.

“I don’t see what the problem is then? If there is a cure then that answers all of our problems.” A man spoke up.

“If you would let me finish Luke I was going to say that there is a cure but the creators want someone to come get it and they have some form of agreement that needs to be made. They are in the heart of downtown somewhere so it will be very dangerous if the cure even works to begin with and they will only give their location if someone agrees to go.”

“Well of course we’ll go I don’t know why you even have to ask.” I laughed speaking up.

“Woah, woah, woah. I’m not going anywhere.” The man from earlier Luke I think it was spoke up.

“You can’t be serious? This could save everyone and your going to sit by and let an opportunity go by like this.” I snapped.

“I think I speak for everyone when I say that we don’t want to risk the chance that we could end up without our families or having more people killed by going on a wild goose chase. Besides we don’t even know what he wants the fact that the guy needs something proves it’s fishy.” Luke glared at me.

“A wild goose chase seriously.” I yelled back standing up and putting my hands on the desk to face him directly.

“Why don’t we take a vote then?” Luke fake smiled at me. “All in favor of going after the cure raise your hand.” I fake smiled back raising my hand and looking around. No one had their hand raised.

“Harry?” I asked him.

“Autumn I think he’s right I don’t want anyone more to die.” He replied softly.

“That’s exactly why we need it!” I shouted back at him.

“Ok thank you for the decision you are all dismissed.” Ms. Smith spoke.

“Decision! What decision!” I yelled at her.

“Sorry majority rules.” She sad sadly, giving me a sympathetic smile. Everyone else in the room seemed to be watching my actions, all of them still sitting down. I took one look at everyone in the room, giving me looks like I’m crazy, and angrily knocked over my chair storming out of the room. I could hear my name being called but I didn’t care. She’s right a decision had been made and I know I’m making the right one.

I stormed to my room, opening the door and slamming the door against the wall, running to my closet and grabbing my bag. I threw it over my shoulder and ran to the door again. Stopping I looked back at the room. Sighing I made my way back in and I sat on the bed. I’m not staying here. I don’t care if I die as weird and unsettling as that is. I have this weird sense of duty. If I can save everyone I will. Autumn stop for a second are you really ready to do this? To die? Because deep down you knows that is what this could mean. I shut my eyes lying back on the bed. I let all of the images of my friends run through my mind and I know I’m making the right choice. Suddenly the door opened and Sam ran in.

“Autumn where are you going?” Sam said slowly looking at my bag and that back at me.

“I’m going after the cure.” I sat up looking at her.

“You’re doing what?!” She yelled at me.

“Sam I don’t need a lecture and I don’t expect you to come with me. I have made my choice and I’m going if it could save everyone.”

“Exactly IF! IF AUTUMN! I can’t take the chance of loosing you.”

“Well I’m going so you can come with me or accept it.”

“Autumn I’m not going with you this is crazy. You’re crazy. I really can’t leave Liam and I can’t die. I’m not ready. I think it’s amazing that you think you can do this but I’m not going to let you go.”

“I’m not crazy and I’m going no matter what. So get out of my way or I will move you.” I stated standing up and started to walk around her but she didn’t let me by. I waited for her to move but she didn’t. Angrily I groaned pushing her out of the way but she grabbed my arm.

“Attie wait. Please I’m begging you please don’t go please.” Sam pulled me into a hug and she started to cry. I could feel the tears threatening but I had to go and I could tell she knew it too.

“Goodbye Sam, love you. I’ll miss you.” I hugged her back.

“No I’m coming with you.” She ran after me. “Bff’s gotta stick together right.” There is no way in hell I’m letting her come.

“Ugh fine I’ll meet you in the lobby but hey when you go get your stuff can you look for my necklace I think it fell on the ground.” I smiled at her. There was no necklace. I left it at home on my bathroom counter. I just needed some time to leave.

“Sure babe.” She smiled at me.

“Sam wait.” I said causing her to stop and turn around giving me a smile. “I’ll see you soon.” She laughed and walked away. I allowed myself one last look at my best friend before I walked down the hall. This felt unreal. The walls were blurry and I felt like the hallway stretched forever. I was pulled out of my dream by someone grabbing my arm.

“Sam did you find…” I started turning around but it wasn’t Sam.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Harry growled.

“Harry.” I said but it was more of a breath then actual words.

“You aren’t leaving. You aren’t leaving me.” He snapped trying to pull the bag off my arm.

“I will do what I want Harry and there is nothing you can do to stop me.” I snapped back pulling the bag back on my shoulder.

“This is not worth it Autumn and deep down you know it.”

“I don’t know it Harry this could save us.” I yelled at him.

“Don’t yell at me.” He yelled back. “I care about you don’t you see that I don’t want you to fucking die Autumn!”

“I’m not going to die Harry and if you’re so convinced I will come with me.”

“You’re crazy if you think you’re not going to die.”

“What is with everyone and calling me crazy.” I mumbled.

“Because you are.” Harry yelled.

“What’s so crazy about wanting to save the people you love Harry?”

“That you could die in the process Autumn!” He yelled without taking a breath he grabbed me by the arms and crashed his lips against mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck as his slipped around my waist. Our lips mold together and follow some unknown rhythm that we both know. The kiss feels so final like a goodbye. He pulled away and looked at me in the eyes and I could see the sadness behind his.

“Please don’t go Autumn.” He whispered.

“I’m sorry Harry, so sorry. I’m going. I don’t care if I die I’ve made my choice now it’s time to make yours.” I sighed.

“I can’t go Autumn I can’t leave my friends.”

“So we’re back to this again huh?” I laughed.

“My rules haven’t changed Autumn my friends always come first.”

“You’re unbelievable I thought maybe after everything we’ve been through maybe something had changed but I guess I was wrong.”

“Well you’re an idiot if you think that my relationship with my friends no my brothers would be less then some relationship I have with a girl I met a week ago.” He snapped. He’s right though it makes sense I just thought we were in this together.

I stopped and stood there shocked. I started walking backwards and I was down the stairs before I could even breathe. I didn’t hear him follow me and I could feel my heart breaking with every step. I ran through the lobby to the locker with my gun. I slung it over my back and grabbed the bag of bullets.

“Ms. Winters.” I heard Ms. Smith’s voice sound from behind me.

“Don’t try to stop me I’m going after the cure.” I snapped at her. I don’t care about being polite anymore I’m done trying to be stopped.

“I wasn’t going to stop you. I was going to tell you that the cure is in town hall downtown and I was going to thank you. You are incredibly selfless and brave and thank you for doing this for all of us.” She smiled.

“Oh. It’s no problem but please take care of everybody for me.” I sighed.

“Of course.” She smiled.

I walked past her with my weapon in hand and walked out the door. I crossed over the barrier, looking back at the Redbury for what could be the last time. I didn’t cry. It all felt like a dream on the way there. Smoke filled my vision and everything felt like it was going in slow motion. I snuck my way towards town hall and there were creatures everywhere. The trip only felt like minutes and not hours. I left late night and it’s already dawn. I didn’t care about the people who controlled the night I could take them and I could take these damn creatures too. I would take them all if it meant saving the people I love. I stood out in front of town hall and pulled out my gun I lost control and shot them all down. Nothing was stopping me now.

“Well, well, well it looks like someone did show up.” I heard a chuckle from behind me and I turned to meet my savior or the man that could destroy all hope.
