1. "Ours."

FLASHBACK

"Winnie it's your turn!" My older brother Jacob handed me a quarter. I took it reluctantly; my small three-year-old hands closed around it and I let out a loud shriek of happiness.

"Co-tah!" I opened my hand and showed my mom my treasure.

"Yes! Very good Winnie that is a quarter!" My mom clapped her hands and smiled at me. "Now make a wish and toss it into the fountain!"

"No! Keep it!" I put it in the front pocket of my yellow overalls. "Mine!" I ran over to the playground away from the fountain where my mom and brother were sitting.

"Co-tah!" I took out my quarter and showed every kid I passed on the way to the swings. One boy with a red balloon tied around his wrist stopped and marveled at it.

"Ooooh!" He took it out of my hand and ran away with it.

"No! Mine!" I caught up with the boy, grabbed it from him and ran away. He chased after me and stopped me. Taking my small hand in his small hand he took the quarter and held it up. Looking at me he said "Ours." He gave me a very sloppy, wet kiss on my cheek and I giggled uncontrollably.

"Ewwww!" I wiped his drool off of my face. "C'mon!" I took him over to the fountain and together we made a wish.

END OF FLASHBACK

Winnie was sitting impatiently in the delivery room of a hospital. The ticking of the clock above the door was mocking her. Every second that passed was a second she went without holding her baby for the first time. Finally the nurse waltzed through the door with a bundle of joy wrapped in a little pink blanket.

"Here you are ma'am. Sorry for the wait. We just couldn't get her to stop crying." The nurse smiled sympathetically and handed her baby to Winnie. Her husband Jesse walked through the door as soon as the baby came intact with Winnie's arms.

"Sorry I'm late Winnie. Traffic was crappy and wasn't moving at all." He held in his hands a boquet of red balloons.

"It's okay." She whispered. "But come look. It's our very own baby girl." The baby in the blanket curled her hand around her fathers finger when he came near. Her small green eyes looked up at him and giggled.

"Ma'am. Do you have a choice of name for the baby?" The nurse came back in with a birth certificate.

"Collins." Winnie and Jesse spoke at the same time. The nurse nodded and scribbled down the name of the baby and walked out of the room.

"I like the name Collins but I would rather call her ours." Jesse said 'Ours' just like he did when he first shared the quarter with Winnie and kissed his newborn daughter's forehead as she drifted off to sleep.
