1. 7 Tokens Of Love

I slowly walked in between trees and skipped over roots. I watched the leaves rustling in the light breeze.  The musty smell of soil and grass filled my nostrils. Pausing, I closed my eyes. I felt the sun shine on my face, warming me up. I listened to the bird’s sweet songs. I heard the small feet of squirrels scurrying up trees. I loved going out doors. It was a place where all my senses alerted.

Opening my eyes, the first thing I saw caught me by surprise. It was a pink balloon. The string dangling from it was tied to a tree. There was no balloon here before. Then how did it get there? Confusion engulfed me, whilst I untied the string from the branch and held it in my hand. Just then, something written on the balloon caught my attention. It read:

Dear Rainey,

This first balloon is a token of Peace.

Follow a path of pink balloons that will lead you to a surprise.

Love,

Anonymous.

I smiled at the balloon above me, reading the words again. I loved pink, I loved balloon, but most of all I loved surprises. From the handwriting on the balloon, I had a feeling of who this ‘anonymous’ person might be. Tying the balloon around my wrist and continued walking again. I wonder where the next pink balloon will be.

Almost tripping over a few loose rocks, I caught hold of a tree trunk. Phew, that was close. Ever since the first balloon I continued walking, admiring the wild flowers and beautiful birds. I looked around quite frequently in hopes of finding another balloon, but it was no use. I was about to give up when I spotted something pink out of the corner of my eye.

My head immediately snapped up, my legs were already making their way towards the pink thing. Once I came into full view of it, my heart fluttered a bit. There were two more balloons. I quickly skipped my way up to them and untied them from the tree. Once again there was some writing on the balloons. They read:

Dear Rainey,

These balloons are tokens of happiness and togetherness.

The next balloons are hidden where the blue bells lay.

Love,

Anonymous.

I read it once again and thought. Where the blue bells lay? I stood still for a second until it came to me. The meadow! I ran in between the trees, hopping over peeking roots and pushing past over-grown bushes. I was really eager to get that third balloon. It wasn’t long before I arrived in the meadow and right there in plain sight were two more pink balloons. I ran up to them straight away and untied them of the rock weighing them down. The balloons read:

Dear Rainey,

These are tokens of your sweet kisses and hugs.

To get one step closer to your surprise, go to a place where the birds live.

Love,

Anonymous.

I tied the two balloons along with the other three on my wrist and looked up at them. I really did love balloons, ever since I was little. They were so light and easily caught my attention. I messed about with my balloons, bopping them in the wind. Letting out a giggle, I turned my attention back to the sixth balloon. I needed to find it near a place where birds lived. Where could that be? Realisation hit me. There were loads of bird houses near the lake; the balloon will surely be there.

I eventually arrived at the lake and there in the distance I saw a pink balloon attached to the pole of a wooden bird house. I jogged closer to it and untied it from the pole. Again, there was something written on the balloon. It read:

Dear Rainey,

Here is a token of friendship.

Just one more to go.

With the next balloon you will find your surprise near the biggest tree in this wood.

Love,

Anonymous.

Yes! I was one step away from getting my surprise. I couldn’t wait. I tied the sixth balloon onto my wrist. My arm was beginning to lift up just a little bit, but I ignored it as I ran. I ran further away from the lake towards the centre of the wood. That’s where the biggest tree was rooted. My breathing became heavier as I ducked under tree branches and jumped over rocks. My balloons were trailing behind me, being pushed back at the speed I was going.

It wasn’t long until I was right in the centre of the wood. My running slowly turned in to a jog and then into a walk. My chest was rising up and down and I tried to focus my eyes. Within seconds I saw a bright pink balloon! This time someone was holding the balloon in there hand. I couldn’t see their face as it was covered by a pink floating circle.

I slowly walked towards it. From what I could see the person wore blue coloured jeans and black converse with white laces. I saw a black striped tight t-shirt, which outlined the person’s perfect body shape. Now I was face to face, or rather face to balloon with this person. I cleared my throat, “Hello?” I said. Who the anonymous person who I thought he would be?

As soon as I spoke the person pushed the balloon away from their face. I gasped in surprise, it was my boyfriend Xavier. His perfect brown eyes bore into my own. His hair was cut short since the last time I saw him; it looked good. A huge smile formed on my lips. Xavier’s arms snaked around my waist pulling me in. My arms snaked around his neck, taking the balloons with me. His lips met mine and with passion they moved in sync.

“I love you.” He whispered. I smiled and looked up at my pink balloons. There was one thing for sure; I loved him too.
