3. Chapter three: Stay with me

                          HARRY

I woke up the next day feeling great. I slept well for the first time in ages. I put on some clothes and brushed my teeth, then met my mom downstairs. She wasn't in the kitchen,  so I poured some orange juice. I saw her waving to me outside, then joined her on the deck. "Hey mom!" I said with a smile. I sat in the chair beside her and sipped my orange juice. She was sitting under the patio umbrella, sipping tea.

"Hi Harry!" she replied, kissing me on the cheek. It was a beautiful morning. The sun is shinning and it's 85 degrees. The grass is emerald green. Its nice and quite with a gentle breeze. The birds are singing and the flowers are blooming. I just wanted to sit there forever, but a different thought roamed in my mind.

"Where's April?" I asked.

"Job search. She's insisting on giving me some rent for staying here," she said.

"Your not going to take her money, are you?" I said smiling, already knowing the answer.

"No, I would never!" I laughed and took another sip of my juice. We sat in silence for a while looking at the sky.

"You know she's a very pretty girl." She looked over at me and I blushed. I finished my glass before talking again.

"I know..." I said quietly.

"You two would be cute together," She said winking at me. I got butterflies and felt my face get warm. I couldn't help but laugh though.

"Aww mom. Don't tell me your going to play matchmaker." I said to her, she shrugged and smiled.

I smiled back, "Don't push her mum, she's been threw a lot." I thought about how bad it must of been living with that for years. Not having any friends or any contact with the outside world.

"I don't need to push to get you two together. You live in the same house, it's bound to happen."

"Thank you mum!" I said with a little sarcasm and we both laughed.

After me and my mom got breakfast, a little later in the day I was relaxing in the living room. Then April walked through the door and plopped down next to me on the couch. My mum must have lent her some nice clothes for the interviews. Her silky hair was pulled back in a shimmering pink headband. Below her wavy locks, cut off at her shoulders was a flowing knee-length rosy pink sundress that fit her curves perfectly. On her feet were snugly fit knee-high black boots.   "Any luck?" I asked.

She sighed, "Nope.." she slouched. I sat in silence not knowing what to say. I turned to her, she looked over at me.

"You need some cheering up," she looked confused. "Come on!" I helped her up, "It's still spring for a few more weeks, lets go roller skating." She smiled, just a little smile at first, but as it grew it pressed her cheeks up and slowly reveled her teeth, like a perfect Pearl necklace. Finally the smile reached her eyes, lighting them up. In that moment she was everything I had ever hoped for, she was everything I would ever need.

"I would love to. I haven't been roller skating in years!" She said.

"Me either," I said. She laughed as we went out the door and made our way to the park. It was just a few blocks away, so we walked. We both stayed silent enjoying the beautiful day. I glanced over at April, she was looking  at two little boys playing with a ball. She smiled and waved when the boys looked over. I broke the silence, "Why are you always so happy?" I asked. Absolutely breathtaking, no words can describe how happy she is and how happy she makes me feel.

"My mom always told me, life is to short to wake up in the morning with regrets. Smile when you can, you never know who is enjoying it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it. " She replied smiling at me.

Oh my god... I think I'm in love...

"Your mom sounds like a very nice person..." I said looking at her.

She hesitated before she answered, "Yea.. She was..."

Once we got there we rented some skates, then sat down to put them on. The sent of her perfume filled my nose, she was only inches away and I could feel the butterfly's in my stomach. "I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous." April said tightening the laces on her shoes, I laughed.

"Don't be!" I smiled, she tried to stand up on the skates, but couldn't keep her balance. I instantly caught her from falling over. She grabbed my hand making sure she was stable enough not to slip again. "Careful!" I said, she looked at me and blushed. The feeling of holding her hand is like walking on the edge of a cliff.  It felt like an adrenaline rush I wanted so bad. My heart raced, pounding so fast, that it didn't sound like a heartbeat, just a dull hum...  If it were not for my restraint, I would've french kissed her in front of the whole park. Okay, I really don't know how to kiss her. I just had to sweat it out, letting myself cool down... oh well. We got on the pavement and were skating really slow. I grabbed her arm, "Don't let me fall!" I said to her jokingly, she giggled.

                             APRIL
Skating with Harry was so fun. I needed something to get my mind of things and with Harry I've forgotten everything. We went around the park a few times, both of us falling then laughing at ourselves. Eventually we returned our skates and just enjoyed the amazing afternoon. He showed me the part of the park with no people. We strolled through a natural avenue of trees, it is shady, dark and cool almost cold. As you come to the end of the trees it opens up into a big field with bright colorful flowers and willow trees, in the middle was a small lake. The air is warmer, and the sounds of insects are almost audible. The lake seems like a pool of diamonds, the sun bouncing off its surface. He says its where he goes to be alone to think. We lay down on the grass near the water and look up at the sky. To my wonder, the sun shone like never before. It appeared as a sea of orange that blanketed the sky. A soft pink color dusted some drifting clouds, and a color of orange casted sunbeams in every direction.

"This is gorgeous, I love it." I said sitting up.

"I thought you might," he said smiling at me. He took my hand, and looked at my palm in his. Then he took my fingers and placed them to his lips and kissed them gently. I literally shivered, feeling as if electricity was going through my body. He pulled my arm closer to him, making me lean in closer. Omg! Is he going to kiss me? We just met, I don't know how I should feel about him. I don't know if I'm ready for a relationship yet. I don't even know how to kiss. What if I screw it up?! Millions of thoughts filled my head, clouding mind. I couldn't think straight. I pushed him away, "Wait, I can't... I'm sorry." His cheeks immediately got red and embarrassment flashes across his face.

"Oh my gosh, I have no idea what got over me!" He blurted moving back.

                           HARRY
What was I doing? Did she even want to kiss me? Ugh! I'm such an idiot! "I got carried away, I…I'm sorry." I whispered looking at the ground.

"No, it's okay," she replied just as quietly. This time the silence was far from comfortable. I saw her shift her weight from the corner of my eye and I let out a sigh. Why did I have to do that? Why did I want her so badly?

"Look Harry, your really nice and sweet but if we start going out... I'm just not ready for..." she trailed off. She hugged her knees and looked at the still water in front of us. "Another broken heart," she finished. It's like I could feel everything she was. The loss of her mom, brother, and dad. It must have been agonizing having everyone you care about leave. “I’m afraid. I’m afraid to get to close to someone... Loving means leaving. It always means leaving.” She mumbled, her voice breaking at the last sentence.

I placed my hand on her chin, slowly moving her face up to me. We stared at each other for a long moment. "I would never, ever hurt you April." I wasn't able to stop myself, I pulled her into a hug, holding her tight. "I'd never leave you.."

She was stunned but she eventually relaxed at my touch, laying her head on my chest. Hot tears fell from her eyes as she clutched my shirt in her hands. She sobbed into my chest for what seemed like hours. I just sat there holding her in my arms. I laid my cheek on her warm golden hair. It smelt like fresh strawberries that you would have to make your day better. Thats exactly what she was doing, making my life and day better. It killed me inside because I realized I couldn't take advantage of her after the tragedies she just endured. I'll  just continue to embrace her and wipe her tears away until the moment when I could have her all to myself. When she finally stopped weeping I partly frowned, I wish this moment would never end. She wiped her eyes and I stared into those beautiful sparkling blue eyes. They shined like diamonds in the moonlight.

"Please Harry. Just dont ever leave me. I just cant t-take it anymore. The loss, the suffering, the torn heart. I cant take it anymore." She exclaimed and I wiped her eyes with my thumb staring into her eyes. Then she whispered softly, "Don't leave me like the others did... Stay with me."

"Always." She didn't answer, she just nodded. Minutes later, she was sleep, with me cradling her in my arms. It was already getting dark and the breeze is picking up. The sun goes down coating the world in darkness. Specks of silver and a bit of white decorate the sky elegantly. The moon hid behind the shades of thin clouds. The moon hung high in the sky, a perfect silver disk. The reflection of the moon shown brightly into the lake below, it made the whole forest glow.

I took off my jacket and put it on April. It was starting to get cold and it wouldn't be good if she got sick. I slipped off my  jacket and draped it over April's shoulders. She was to deep asleep to walk home so I carried her back.

When I got back home, I rung the doorbell and waited for my mom to answer. She opened the door and smiled at me. "Harry! Did you have fun with-" she looked down at April in my arms. "What happened?" she opened the door wider and let me in.

"She... fell asleep." I hesitated to tell her why, but she just went along with it.

"Let's get her to bed then." she said taking me up the stairs. We entered her room and mom helped me put her into bed. No emotion on her face, time stands still as her mind blocks out the horror and pain lived out each and everyday. The innocence showed, her rosy cheeks and pink lips, it made her seem younger. I kissed her cheek before I left, then went to bed.
