14. Hellhounds in a Field

I flew by Kitieta as we headed toward Mabel's. "So, you think Satan will attack again today?" Kitieta asked as her long purple wings pumped.

I glided for a moment then flapped my wings again. I shrugged. I swooped down low over the field we were flying over. I flew after a rabbit I had startled. Kitieta swooped beside me in my chase. We were in no hurry. Suddenly I head a blood curdling screech. I straightened my body, wings angling to upright me and I turned. I looked as five hellhounds bounded at us. The first one lunged, slobber flying from its mouth. I dodged it's long white fangs and grew out my claws and teeth. Snarling I leaped into his back. I bit down between his shoulders as Kitieta wrapped her tail around ones neck and slammed it into the ground eventually breaking it's neck.

The one beneath me bucked and twisted, snarling and snapping at me. Another leaped at me and I let go, rolling onto the ground as one hellhound tackles the other. Another bit Kitietas arms and she snarled. She dug her horns into it's head and shook, gouging out it's eyes and sending it helping across the field. I turned to another and dug my claws down it's side. I heard the tearing of skin and felt it's flesh rip. warm blood gushed onto my hand and I dug my other claws into it's other side. It howled in pain and tore away from me. Two were left. They snarled and lunged at us.

A flock of black crows rose up from the distance and the dying howls of the hellhounds echoed. I stood looking at the forms. One had its neck gashed open the others stomach slit wide, it's entrails falling out. I panted and looked at Kitieta. Her arm was bleeding where she'd been bit but otherwise she was unharmed. I had no scratches but blood from the hounds covered me. "Well..." I breathed. "There's your answer."
