Dream-Less

--I wrote Time-Less for the sci-fi competition, so this is the follow on from that. xx--

I have Dreams. Dreams which I can't explain. Dreams that feel so real, it's as if they are memories. Sometimes I feel as if I am awake, and it's happening in front of me, other times, I just dream of nothing. It's either The Dream, or just a blank. Something happened to me in reality. Something I can't remember when I have my eyes open; but when I sleep, relive it in flashes.

9. Help

"Ideologies separate us. Dreams and anguish bring us together."

Eugene Ionesco

Before I knew it, he collapsed to the floor, his face frozen in shock and pain.

I ran forwards and turned him over so he lay on his back, and checked his pulse.

It was faint, but he was still alive.

I grabbed a pillow off the bed and gently put it under his head.

Despite kidnapping me, he had also saved me. I knew I was safe with him, not just because he'd been invading my dreams for weeks now, but I had this feeling, deep in my stomach, that he wouldn't harm me.

Somehow though, Xavier's friends tell me I'm hurting him. I don't understand what's going on, but I knew that Xavier needed me right now.

I stepped into the living room, and saw a mobile crushed into pieces lying on the floor. I looked around the room, and saw a phone sitting on a coffee table. I went over to it, and paused as I lifted the receiver.

Who could I call?

I couldn't call 999, it was pretty obvious to me that Xavier and his friends were not entirely human, and I knew he wouldn't appreciate me calling an ambulance. I didn't even know where I was, so calling Lauren would be pointless, and I didn't know any of his friends numbers.

The only thing I knew was that they met at the top of Big Ben. I put the receiver back, and ran through to the bathroom, searching through the cabinet for anything that would help, but it was empty.

I wandered back into the bedroom and sat beside Xavier, defeated. I didn't know what to do.

Gently, I held his hand in mine as I stared down at his face. He was so peaceful in his sleep.

I moved my other hand to move a strand of dark brown hair away from his eyes, when suddenly, a bright yellow light flooded the room. I gasped and shut my eyes tightly against the lights glare.

When I opened them, I was standing in a green meadow. Butterfly's and bees lazily flew through the warm air. The sky was a crystal clear cerulean blue, and a slight gentle breeze brushed my hair off of my face. I looked around, and saw Xavier. He was lying down beneath the biggest oak tree I had ever seen; its upper most branches disappearing into the sky, and its large strong roots jutted above the ground in places.

I wondered over to Xavier and sat down next to him.

'Where are we?' I asked, looking down at him. His eyes were the most beautiful and rich colour of amber I'd ever seen.

'I don't know; you tell me.' Our voices seemed to echo and vibrate in the air. I frowned, and looked around.

'We must be dreaming then.' I said. 'It's impossible that a place like this exists in reality.' He scoffed, turning to look at me disdainfully.

'That's impossible. I don't dream. I can't even sleep.' I smiled gently at him and raised an eyebrow.

'Sometimes, you don't need to sleep to dream.' He frowned at me.

'Then... how do I wake up?' He asked, sounding confused and lost. My heart tingled at his complete confusion over what to do.

'I don't know. It's different for everybody. Try pinching yourself.' He frowned and glared at me.

'Why on earth would I do that? It's a waste of me.' I ignored him, and grinned evilly.

'Well, I guess I'll have to do it for you then.' I leapt on top of him, ignoring his yell of surprise, and proceeded to tickle and pinch him.

He laughed and swatted my hands away before yelping as I pinched his side hard.

Suddenly, the impossibly bright light was back, and I squinted my eyes tight shut again.

When I opened them, I found myself lying on top of Xavier, his hands clutching my wrists tightly.

I swallowed before pushing myself away from him and sitting up.

'Are you okay?' I asked, frowning in concern, trying to hide my embarrassment.

He ignored me and sat up, glaring at me.

If looks could kill... I thought.

'What did you do to me?' He said, before coughing, his chest heaving under the strain of his coughs.

'I don't know what you're talking about! But you need to see a Doctor. You're sick.' He laughed at me, and forced himself to stand up. Blood trickled from his nose, but he cuffed it away with his sleeve.

'No Doctor can help me. I'm fading away, and nothing can stop it.'

'What do you mean?' I asked, frowning in confusion. Ever since I met Xavier, I always seem to be confused.

'Humph. You wouldn't understand human. Time is a fragile thing, despite my appearance.' I lost patience.

'Okay, you need to explain yourself right now. I've been dragged across London, Nearly killed by some ghostly lady, and now sucked into your dreamland. I deserve an explanation. Especially seeing as Veronica dearest told me you'd been messing with my head. Oh, and the name's Amelia, so use it!' He stared at me in shock before turning and nodding.

'Okay. Follow me. I need a drink.' He said, walking towards the cabinet and pulling out the same bottle of whisky as earlier.

'No way. You get wasted faster than anyone I've ever seen, and I work in a bar!' I said, grabbing the bottle from him and resolutely putting it back in the cabinet before locking it and taking the key in my fist.

'You can have this back when you've explained-' I started to say, when I broke off. He put his hand through the cabinet and pulled out the bottle of whiskey. My mouth was wide open in surprise, and he grinned at me before taking a swig of whiskey.

He wandered over to the chaise lounge, every step causing him extreme pain, before he dropped onto it and spread his arms over the back of the seat.

He unbuttoned his white shirt at his neck before nodding for me to walk over. I sat down in the chair opposite, ignoring his smile and huge amount of masculinity.

'So.' He said, leaning forwards, already sounding partially drunk.

'What do you want to know?'
