Dressing Up or Dressing Down? (One Direction/Lou Teasdale)

Melody is just an ordinary girl, or so she hopes. Her dream is to become a stylist, but after a traumatic experience it was locked in her inner closet. What will happen when she moves to London to be mentored by the famous Lou Teasdale, her idol? What will become of her when she meets the five lads everyone wants to meet? No one knows, except Fate.

12. Pranked Too Far?

A very uncomfortable car ride later, we came to the mall. Louis and Harry were being their childish selves, Liam was trying to be responsible, Niall was off to find food and Zayn was just being Zayn. I, for one, ignored them all and went window shopping. I didn’t really need anything, but like always I ended up buying a ton of new games. I was on my way to the food court when I walked into something that felt like a wall. The force of the hit left me on my bum on the floor with games scattered all around me.

“Oh, jeez. I’m so sorry.” He said giving me a hand. “Melody? Is that you?”

“Jake? How are you?” I asked as I noticed the familiar boy in front of me.

“I’m fine. I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” he asked.

“Don’t be sorry. I’m perfectly fine. I wasn’t watching were I was going anyway.” I said taking the games that he had picked up from him and putting them back in the bag.

“I never pegged you for a gamer girl.” He said eyeing the bag.

“What can I say, I love a good game of Call of Duty.” I said shrugging.

“Are you here alone?” he asked.

“Not exactly. My friends took off in different directions instead of sticking together and going in one like they said we should.” I said looking around.

“They don’t sound like very good friends to me.”

“They’re not too bad.” I said as my phone started ringing.

“Excuse me for a second. Hello?” I said putting my phone to my ear.

“Melody, we had to leave. Some mob of girls were after us so we took off. Were are you?” Niall asked sounding breathless.

“I’m currently still at the mall. I bumped into Jake. We were just catching up. Are you guys alright?” I asked.

“Yeah, yeah. We’re fine. Wait, who’s Jake?” he asked sounding interested. “Your boyfriend?” he teased. He sounded like one of those girls in high school.

“What? Niall, no! I met him in the park the other day. We’re just friends.” I said hoping I made it clear enough.

“Whatever you say. When do you want us to pick you up?” he asked.

“No need. I still have a few things to do.” I lied. I didn’t want them to think they had to pick me up or drive me everywhere. I could just ask Lacy to pick me up. She is my driver after all.

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“Yes, now you guys get packing. Bye.” I said hanging up. “Sorry about that. It seems they have left me here to die.” I said turning back to Jake. He looked amused.

“That sucks. What are you planning on doing now?” he asked.

“I was just going to grab something to eat and then be off. Would you like to join me?” I asked.

“Yeah, sure.” We walked to the nearest coffee shop and I instantly craved a coffee milkshake.

“Can I get a coffee milkshake please?” I asked the waitress and receiving a nod as she scribbled it down.

“Make that two.” Jake said.

“Sure thing.” She said walking off towards the kitchen. My phone beeped next to me, but I ignored it. I find it very rude to be on your phone when at a restaurant with someone.

“How have you been?” I asked trying to make conversation.

“Good. School starts on Monday.” He said as my phone beeped again and again. “I think someone’s looking for you.” He chuckled. I picked up my phone and read the first message.

From: Harry

Hey, sorry we had to leave you there. Are you okay?

Don’t be mad at me and stop talking again please. Were are you?

Oh, poor boy.

I’m getting worried now. Please. Are you safe?

This could get fun. I smiled as an idea formed in my head.

“What are you thinking?” Jake asked looking from me to my phone.

“Prank time on an overprotective friend.” I smirked putting my phone down. I was going to let him suffer.

“I love a good prank.” He said. We started talking about some classic pranks and about Louis’ granny one. My phone beeped every two minutes. We laughed at the texts Harry was sending me. This went on for a good 10 minutes. It was getting late and I was supposed to do that shoot tomorrow.

“This was fun.” I said as we paid and walked out of the mall entrance.

“We should definitely do this again.” He said.

“Yeah.” I laughed.

“Do you want a ride home?” he asked.

“You’re definitely not old enough to drive yet.” I said eyeing him.

“Not legally, no, but that doesn’t stop me.” he shrugged.

“Well, okay then.” I didn’t want to bother Lacy anyway.

“Come on. Get on.” He said climbing onto the most gorgeous motorcycle I have ever seen.

“Wow.” I said getting on and wrapping my arms around his waist. This boy must spend the biggest part of his day working out.

“She’s a beauty, isn’t she?” he asked starting the engine.

“You got that right.” I said resting my head on his back.

“Hold on.” He said as we pulled out of the parking lot. We flew through the traffic. My hair whipping in the wind. It was a rush I would never forget. We pulled up to my house 10 minutes later. The lights were on inside.

“Thanks, Jake.” I said unwrapping my arms from him and getting off.

“For what?” he asked.

“For the ride. I had a blast today.” I said genuinely smiling.

“No problem. Me too. So I’ll see you again?” he asked smiling back.

“Definitely.” I said. “See you later.” I walked up to my door as I heard him speed off again. I walked inside to find five boys looking at me.

“Hi, guys.” I said walking into the living room, dumping the new games on the coffee table and flopping down on the empty couch.

“Where have you been? I’ve been worried sick. You didn’t even answer any of my texts.” Harry asked sounding concerned.

“Niall, I found a Supras store today.” I said completely ignoring Harry. Phase one complete.

“What? When did that happen and why didn’t I see it?” he asked.

“Probably because you were too busy eating or running away from those girls.” Louis mused.

“Oh, Louis I found a practical jokes store too.” I said looking to him.

“Oh god. You should not have told him about that.” Liam said shaking his head.

“Oops.” I shrugged. “You guys should probably be leaving soon before Lou comes and kicks you out. I have that shoot in the morning.” I said looking at the time.

“Yeah, we should get going.” Zayn said standing up. We walked towards the door with a confused looking Harry trailing behind me. Phase two is a go. I was pulled aside by Louis. Mmm, I was expecting Harry.

“What are you up too?” he asked.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I said smiling sweetly.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about. Why are you ignoring him again?” he asked putting his hands on his hips. I tapped my nose. “OH!” he exclaimed realising what I was doing.

“Just stop him when he wants to buy me something again.” I said remembering the earrings.

“You got it.” He said.

“Louis! Hurry up!” Liam shouted.

“Bye Melody!” they yelled.

“Bye guys!” I shouted and shut the door, locking it in the process. I went straight to the bathroom and took a hot shower. The water relaxed me to the point where Armageddon could strike and I wouldn’t care. I walked to my room in a towel and changed into something comfortable. I ran downstairs, grabbed my phone and ran back to my room. I hopped onto my bed and checked my phone.

1 new message.

From: Louis

Goodnight, Mel.

I scrolled through my contacts until I found his name.

“Melody?” Harry asked down the phone. It sounded like he was crying.

“Yeah, it’s me. I’m sorry.” I whispered. I didn’t want to make him cry.

“Why are you sorry? Wait, you aren’t going to kill yourself are you?” he asked sounding concerned.

“I would never do that, Harry.” I was shocked. Why did everyone think I wanted to kill myself?

“This was another joke, wasn’t it?” he asked.

“Yes, that’s why I’m sorry. I didn’t know you would react this way.” I was speaking from my heart.

“It’s okay. I was being a dick.” He said.

“No, you weren’t. You just wanted to know if I was okay and I ignored you for hours.” I didn’t realise I was crying until the first tear splashed on my thigh.

“Melody, are you crying?” he asked.

“N-no.” I hiccupped.

“You are a terrible lair. I’m coming back.” He said as I heard keys jingle and a door slam.

“It’s not necessary.” I said through my tears.

“I’ll be there in 10 minutes. See you soon.” He hung up before I could say anything else. Where was this coming from? I was never this emotional, not even at my parents’ funeral. People thought I was going to crack back then, but I didn’t. I knew for a fact that he had taken a piece of my heart, maybe that’s the reason I can’t stand to see him hurt and knowing it was me just ripped my walls to the ground. There was a knock on my door 5 minutes later. My eyes were red from unshed tears. I rubbed my face as I walked to the door trying to calm myself down, but failing miserably. I opened the door to find a pair of green eyes, red and puffy from crying, staring down at me. I felt the tears trickle down my face at the sight of him.

“Don’t cry, love. I’m here now.” He said taking me into a warm and tight hug. That was it. I broke down crying into his chest. He picked me up with ease and carried me to the couch, disappearing for only a second to close the door. I buried my face into the ever present pillow. I was so confused. I didn’t know why I felt this way. I didn’t know what was happening to me. I felt his presence next to me. I resurfaced from the pillow and stared at nothing in particular, avoiding his gaze.

“You okay?” he asked. I nodded, not trusting my voice. “Come here.” he said pulling me into another hug, rubbing circles into my back. It was a comforting gesture that I accepted gratefully.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” I whispered against his chest.

“You didn’t hurt me. I just overreacted.” He said against my hair.

“I’m still sorry.” I said again. He just sighed, but kept me in his arms. My eyes drooped and I realised how tired I actually was. He started humming a random tune and I closed my eyes. I fell asleep with the sound of his voice for a second time.
