Chapter 3

Sky

The middle was very quiet and serene, there was a big tree and a cottage in the middle. That had to be the cottage that the creator of the maze had stayed in. That was what was said to be haunted.  I looked around, and noticed Autumn behind me. Had she followed me? I turned to face her, but she seemed to be too interested in the scenery to notice. While I waited for her to notice me I checked around for other people. Nobody was here yet, but some people were approaching. I could tell as I could find their minds, and map out where they were. As I did this Autumn finally realised that I was looking at her and she came out of her trance. "Oh, hey Sky." she said, taken by surprise.

"Hey Autumn, good to see you. I was just wondering, did you follow me through the maze?" I asked her, being quite blunt. She didn't seem to be to taken back by my bluntness and she answered almost immediately. "Yeah I did. But I had nobody else to go with, and you were in front of me. I did try and tell you but you had your music up loud. Also I had a feeling that you would know your way around here, I mean you are good at this kind of thing." she told me. I realised that she was probably telling the truth as I had had my music very loud and I wouldn't have been able to hear her. I also knew that she was quite shy and probably hadn't wanted to tap my shoulder or anything. "Don't worry about it. Can you climb trees?" I asked looking at the big tree in the middle. She followed my gaze and nodded. "I think I can." she told me.

I quickly checked he location of the group that was nearing us, and saw that they were rather close. We both walked quickly towards the tree and scrambled up it. I got up first, so I helped Autumn to the first branch. From there we climbed to the top and sat down on the top branch. We made sure that it was sturdy enough first though. The leaves on the tree stopped anyone from seeing us, but we could see the people on the ground if we wanted too. And if needed I could create some binoculars so we could see better. After a minute of waiting, the group came into the middle. They looked relieved to finally be here. The group was quite big, consisting of a mix of boys and girls. It likely started out as two separate groups who joined together. A girl with blonde hair who was quite tall was leading it. I wasn't sure who it was at first, but Autumn knew as she whispered her name. "Crystal. What is she doing here?" She exclaimed quietly.

I looked at Autumn, and I saw that she was almost terrified. "What's wrong with Crystal?" I asked her. I vaguely knew Crystal, but she wasn't in any of my classes. As far as I knew she was ok, and quite sporty. She was in the top group for P.E so that had to count for something. Autumns ginger autumn coloured hair got into her eyes for a moment and she brushed it away then answered. "Crystal is in my registration group. She is rather mean to me if I talk to her and she does try to bully me a bit, but usually it doesn't work or I ignore her. She is very annoying though, and I can't say that I like her."  I was quite amazed at her confession. I reasoned that that could be the reason why she was so shy. We watched them from the tree for a bit longer as they looked around the place. After they had been around the whole middle, they went into the house. Both of us looked at each other, and we were both thinking the same thing. That it wasn't a good idea to go into the house.

We both stayed where we were, watching and waiting for the group to emerge from the house and prove us wrong. We waited for 5 minutes, but nobody came out. Then came the scream. Suddenly a loud high pitch scream came out of the house. Both Autumn and I were surprised, but we had both had an idea that this was coming. Autumn quickly made her way down the tree, and she arrived at the ground first. I landed seconds later. We rushed towards the house, and we both came to a sudden halt at the door. It was still open as the last person in hadn't closed it. As we stared in I could feel. Few butterfly's in my stomach due to the fact that I was feeling rather nervous. A moment later, we stepped into the house.

Autumn

I looked around the magnificent middle of the maze. It was spacious and looked inviting. The was a cottage in the middle of the middle, and I assumed that it belonged to the previous owner of the maze. There was also a large tree in the middle and it looked just right for climbing. I was in a bit of a trance for a minute, the. I realised that Sky was looking at me, probably wondering if I had followed her or something. "Oh, hey Sky." I started, sounding somewhat surprised. "Hey Autumn, good to see you. I was just wondering, did you follow me through the maze?" she asked, being quite blunt. I didn't mind seeing as I had followed her through the maze, and I was used to it anyway. I answered almost immediately. "Yeah I did. But I had nobody else to go with, and you were in front of me. I did try and tell you but you had your music up loud. Also I had a feeling that you would know your way around here, I mean you are good at this kind of thing." Sky stayed silent for a moment, probably thinking about how truthful my previous statement was. Although she could have been thinking about something else entirely such as how good white chocolate tastes. "Don't worry about it. Can you climb trees?" she asked. I followed her gaze to the tree in the middle. I nodded then replied, "I think I can."

We both walked over to the tree, speeding up a bit every step like it was a competition to see who got there first. Sky was the first to get up, and she helped me get to the first branch, which was rather high. I can climb trees very well, and after that I made my way to the top with no help from Sky. When we got to the top we checked if the top branch could hold our weight. It was not like we were heavy or anything we just didn't want the branch to collapse under us. It looked quite thick and it held out weight, so we sat down on it and made ourselves comfortable. I had a feeling that Sky was looking for someone, and I didn't mind being up in the tree. I love heights. I peered through the leaves to the world below us. I guessed that we could see if anybody was below, but even if they looked up, they wouldn't be able to spot us due to the leaves. My theory was tested a minute later when a group came into the middle. As they entered, I knew that Sky had been waiting for them. She had somehow known that they would come soon after us. I didn't know how, but I wasn't really worried. Sky was mysterious at the best of times.

The group below us seemed to be glad to have finally made it here. It was quite a large group with a mix of boys and girls. It was unlikely that they had started like that so I assumed that one group had joined the other to make this larger group. It was probably best to stick together in a maze this big, I mean I stuck to Sky, so I could see where they were coming from. I looked closer at the group, recognising some people from the top of the tree. Then I saw the leader of the group and I almost fell out of the tree. I quickly regained my balance and looked again, making sure that I wasn't wrong. It was as I thought. It was Crystal. "Crystal. What is she doing here?" I whispered, almost shouting.

If Sky looked at me now she would realise that I was basically terrified of Crystal. From what Sky asked next I guessed that she had seen my expression, "What's wrong with Crystal?" she asked. As I was about to answer some of my hair got in my eyes, my autumn ginger coloured hair blocking my vision. I brushed it out of the way then replied. "Crystal is in my registration group. She is rather mean to me if I talk to her and she does try to bully me a bit, but usually it doesn't work or I ignore her. She is very annoying though, and I can't say that I like her." I then tore my gaze away from Sky and looked at the group, studying their movements. Sky was silent, probably contemplating what I had just told her. We silently watched the group for a bit longer, and we saw them head towards the house. As they entered the house we looked at each other and I think we both thought the same thing. That it wasn't a good idea to go into the house.

We both stayed where we were, watching and waiting for the group to emerge from the house and prove us wrong. We waited for 5 minutes, but nobody came out. Then came the scream. Suddenly a loud high pitch scream came out of the house. Both Sky and I were surprised, but we were both expecting something like that to happen. I climbed down the tree, basically jumping down I was going so fast. I jumped from branch to branch, glad that I was good at tree climbing and keeping my balance when I landed. I got to the ground first, and a few seconds later Sky arrived landing next to me. We rushed towards the house in sync, and we both came to a sudden halt at the door. It was still open as the last person in hadn't closed it. I didn't really want to go in and I was feeling nervous. As I was feeling like that I predicted that Sky was also a bit nervous. We stood there for a little bit, then we stepped into the house.
