7. The Duel

... Unfortunately, she got stopped by Percy on the way. He looked angry. He knew.

"What the hell is wrong with you? You could get seriously hurt!" urged Percy.

"Percy, I'm old enough to look after myself" said Helena.

"Gods Helena! You've been here barely a week and you're already getting yourself into trouble!" he yelled.

"Guess it runs in the family then" said Annabeth from behind the pair.

Percy glared at Annabeth before turning back to the daughter of Poseidon.

"Look, Mark's a son of Ares, he's so much stronger than you. If you do this, you mig-" Percy started.

"Might what Percy? This is why I came to camp. Not just to learn to fight, not just to find you. I came to camp especially because I thought this was a place where I can be myself. Where everyone especially you could encourage me and help me and help me to learn and to go on quests. I'm sick of people assuming that I'm weak. Percy, if you don't want to see me get hurt, don't watch. But I am doing this" Helena stated. Percy said nothing else He was trying to process what had just happened. After a minute or so, he gave a her a smile.

"Go and show the camp the strength and speed I know you have." Percy told his only sister.

Helena stood over Mark victoriously. Okay, Percy was right, she was hurt - more so than Mark - but he was also wrong. She had won. There was silence in the amphitheatre.

A clap. Then another. Then the whole place burst into enormous applause. It seemed a large crowd had gathered around the pair during the duel.

Helena turned to see the face of Clarisse La Rue staring intently at her in an inquisitive sense. She then did something she must have never done before as everyone gasped. She hugged Helena and congratulated her.
